Three parliamentary constituencies in Hyderabad recorded the lowest polling in Telangana, where elections were held Wednesday, authorities said Saturday.
Among all the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies, Malkajgiri recorded the lowest turnout at 51.19 percent. Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituencies recorded 52.52 and 53.28 percent turnout respectively.
The highest polling of 88.99 percent was registered in Bhongir constituency in Nalgonda district.
Three days after the polling, the election authorities released the turnout figures.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said if voted to power, the TDP-BJP combine would develop the Seemandhra region and turn it into ‘Swarna Andhra’ (golden Andhra).
Addressing public meetings at Samarlakota, Thondagi, Pithpuram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Naidu said, “Keeping the future of children in mind we had developed Hyderabad. Similarly, Seemandhra will be developed on all fronts and turned into Swarna Andhra.”

Describing BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as “dangerous”, former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday said the power would go in the hands of industrialists if he took charge of the top post.
“Narendra Modi is dangerous. If he becomes prime minister then the power will directly go in the hands of the owners of industries and factories,” he told an election rally at Panihati in Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency.
He said an alternative government without Congress and BJP could be formed at the Centre.

A court here Saturday granted six days custody of Indian Mujahideen operative Faizan Ahmed Sultan, who was deported from Sharjah to Delhi, to NIA.
Special NIA Judge I.S. Mehta in an in-camera hearing granted six days custody of Sultan.
National Investigation Agency sources said Sultan provided hiding places to the top leadership of the IM since 2008. His name was disclosed by an arrested IM operative and then by Yasin Bhatkal.
Sultan was active in 2008 when IM carried out a series of bombings in the country.

Eight people were killed and 15 others wounded in series of lightning strikes in different districts of Bangladesh Saturday, authorities said.
Most of the killed and wounded were farmers who were working in their fields. One student was killed and five others were wounded while they were playing football in Tamgail, about 100 km north of Bangladesh’s capital, Xinhua reported.
The wounded students received medical treatment at a hospital in Tangail.

At least seven persons, including four women, were killed today when a ferry with 70 people on board capsized after a storm hit southwestern coastlines of Bangladesh.
The ferry capsized in a river in Patuakhali district after the storm called ‘kalboishakhi’ (nor’wester) hit Galachipa area.
