Al Qaeda commander in Yemen killed during US drone strikes

The Al Qaeda in Yemen has reportedly confirmed the death of one of its local commanders following an attack by the Yemeni army and US drones.

According to The Washington Times, a Twitter account associated with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula issued a message saying Ali bin Likra al-Kazimy died Saturday after a military attack on one of its camps in the town of Mahfad last week.

Meanwhile, the Yemen government confirmed the death of al-Kazimy.

Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing on the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said Sunday.

“The Pakistani troops violated the bilateral ceasefire resorting to unprovoked firing at our positions on the LoC in Mendhar sector. The firing stated at 11.30 p.m. Saturday night,” Defence spokesman Col. Manish Mehta told IANS.

“The Pakistani trops used small arms and automatics in the firing. The Indian troops responded with equal calibre weapons,” Mehta said.

S Korean divers struggle to open blocked ferry cabins

South Korean dive teams struggled today to gain access to blocked cabins of a submerged ferry that sank nearly three weeks ago, as the confirmed death toll from the disaster rose to 242.

Six more bodies were recovered early today, 18 days after the 6,825-tonne Sewol capsized and sank with 476 people on board – most of them schoolchildren – while 60 remain unaccounted for.

“Rescuers using some equipment are trying to open blocked cabins,” spokesman Ko Myeong-Suk told a morning briefing.

DMRC: 5 entry points-cum-pedestrian subways for Old Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will construct five station entry and exit points-cum- pedestrian subways in Old Delhi area as part of its upcoming Central Secretariat-Kashmiri Gate corridor.

Body of teenage girl found on railway tracks

Police today found body of a teenage girl on railway tracks in Sinhanigate area here, an official said.

The body is yet to be identified, Sinhanigate police station House Officer Yatendra Punia said, adding police reached the spot after being informed by passersby.

Punia did not deny a foul play behind the death of the girl and said police were trying to identify the body.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a 65-year-old person was killed allegedly in a train accident near Rathi mill in Vijaynagar area.

Infiltration bid along LoC foiled in Jammu

The Indian army Sunday foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

“A group of five to six militants tried to sneak into our side of the LoC in Dera Dabsi area in Poonch at night,” a defence spokesman told IANS.

“Our troops fired at the infiltrators who had to withdraw back.”

“No casualty occurred on our side although the militants also fired at the Indian troops after being challenged.”

The infiltration bid was second in less than two days on the LoC in Poonch district, said the spokesman.
