China asks Malaysia to formulate ‘new search plan’ for MH370

China has asked Malaysia to formulate a “new search plan” soon to locate the crashed Flight MH370 and take the probe into the plane’s disappearance “seriously”. Premier Li Keqiang met with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak and raised China’s concerns over the search and investigation into the mysterious disappearance of the plane carrying 239 people, mostly Chinese.

“We expect Malaysia to take the leading and coordinating role, come up with a new search plan for the jet at an early date, and take the investigation seriously,” Li said during his talks with Najib here yesterday.

“The time has come to punish architects of Sikh genocide. The Akali Dal will soon discuss the ongoing legal proceedings with the union home minister to ensure proper investigations and early hearings of the cases to put the perpetrators of this heinous crime behind bars,” Sukhbir Badal told media after offering prayers at the Golden Temple here.

Don’t include my life story in schoolbooks: Modi

The Gujarat government wanted to devote a few chapters in its school syllabus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life, but he ruled it out Friday.

“Am reading in the news that some states want to include Narendra Modi’s life struggles as a part of school curriculum. I firmly believe the life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum,” Modi tweeted.

The young pupils in school should instead read about the stories of “several stalwarts” who worked as pioneers to make India as it stands today, he said.

New CEO for Infosys soon, says Murthy

India’s second largest IT firm Infosys Ltd would soon name its new chief executive officer to succeed incumbent S.D. Shibulal as the selection process was in progress, executive chairman and co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy said Friday.

“The selection process is progressing as planned and the nomination board will announce the new CEO at the conclusion of the process soon,” Murthy told his employees in an e-mail.

Meanwhile, executive vice-chairman S. Gopalakrishnan and Shibulal will steer the $8.25-billion global software major with the company’s board of directors.

China, Malaysia pledge stability in South China Sea

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak Friday agreed to strengthen dialogue to maintain stability in the South China Sea.

“The current situation in the South China Sea is stable in general but signs deserving our attention have also emerged,” Xinhua quoted Xi as saying in his meeting with the Malaysian prime minister.

China cherishes the peace and stability of the South China Sea and disapproves of complicating, broadening or internationalising the ongoing regional disputes over sovereignty, Xi added.

Three planes damaged, 21 flights diverted due to bad weather in Delhi

Three planes were damaged and 21 flights diverted due to the sudden rain and storm that lashed the national capital here Friday evening, officials said.

Airport sources told IANS that three planes, which were parked at the T-3 (terminal 3) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, were damaged.

Meanwhile 21 flights which were coming to Delhi were diverted, officials told IANS.

Among the flights that were diverted included four international flights.

India releases 37 Pakistani prisoners

India Friday released 37 Pakistani prisoners lodged in Indian jails, reciprocating the gesture made by the Pakistani government earlier. The Pakistani prisoners, including 32 fishermen, have reached home.

An Indian official confirmed in New Delhi that India has released 37 Pakistani prisoners.

The Pakistan ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement in Islamabad that India had released 37 Pakistani prisoners, including five civil prisoners and 32 fishermen.

The Delhi University (DU) Friday suspended five officials for allegedly leaking documents related to educational qualifications of union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani, officials said here.

“Five of the non-teaching staff of the school of open learning have been suspended for accessing the confidential file and then leaking it,” Malay Neerav, DU joint dean of students’s welfare and media coordinator, told reporters.

Himachal to post specialised doctors in remote areas

The Himachal Pradesh government is making efforts to increase the number of specialised doctors in far-flung areas, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said Friday.

He said the state is endeavouring to increase the number of postgraduate seats in the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla and Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Tanda of Kangra district to overcome the shortage of doctors.

Rain, erratic power supply affect Metro services

Commuters had a harrowing time Friday evening as Metro services were affected for close to an hour due to erratic power supply and the sudden rain which lashed the national capital.

“The services were disrupted for about an hour between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. due to failure/erratic power supply from Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) to Delhi Metro’s receiving sub-stations across the network, which in turn feed power to the Metro system for running the trains and stations,” Delhi Metro said in a statement.

5 Indians charged with visa, financial fraud in US

Five Indians, including four from the same family, have been arrested and charged with participating in a wide-ranging student visa and financial aid fraud schemes in the United States.

Suresh Hiranandaney (60), his son Samir Hiranandaney (27), sister Anita Chabria (49), brother-in-law Lalit Chabria (54) and employee Seema Shah (41) face student visa fraud, wire fraud and student financial aid fraud.

They were presented before US Magistrate Judge Gabriel Gorenstein in Manhattan federal court here yesterday.

The charges carry prison term from five to 20 years.
