EC frames ‘paid news’ charges against ex-Maharashtra CM Chavan

The Election Commission (EC) has framed five specific charges against former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan in an alleged ‘paid news’ case.

The EC asked complainants in the case to furnish all evidence in the form of affidavits to the poll panel by June 4.

It has also asked Chavan to produce evidence as rebuttal to evidence produced by the complainants by June 9.

Pak amongst top countries with most bomb blast cases

Pakistan reportedly ranks among the top countries with most number of bomb attack cases.

On an average, the country reports roughly two major bombings per day.

Iain Overton, policy director of the London-based Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) says that the attacks, including the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), has made Pakistan one of the most dangerous places in the world, the Dawn reports.

Tobacco kills about one million people in India every year

Every six seconds, someone in the world dies from tobacco use, and approximately the sixth death occurs in India. India accounts roughly for 10 per cent of world’s tobacco smokers. India is also the third largest producer of tobacco leaf in the world.

While the newly appointed Health Minister of India Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who himself is a medical practitioner, admits tobacco is the worst enemy of the country, his ministry does not have the latest figures of deaths attributed to tobacco use in India.

Duchess Kate hires female ‘bum guard’ to avoid future bare bottom pics

Kate Middleton has reportedly hired a female “minder” to accompany her so that future pictures of her bare bottom can be avoided, it has been revealed.

According to sources, the female “bum guard” would accompany Duchess Kate on shopping trips and stand guard outside changing rooms while she tries on clothes, the Daily Star reported.

Insiders added that the 32-year-old wife of Prince William will now be watched all the time and they can’t afford any more embarrassing photos like this.

Musharraf advised complete bed rest by doctors

Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf has been advised complete bed rest by the medical board treating him for his spinal cord problems.

According to The Nation, the medical board also recommended the former president to have his physiotherapy conducted on daily basis.

Musharraf has reportedly been advised by his doctors to go abroad for his spinal cord treatment, as it will not be possible in Pakistan .

The retired general has been shifted to his residence in Clifton, under tight security and is being examined by doctors including a cardiologist, the report adds. (ANI)

30% ministers have criminal records in BJP: Mayawati

Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayavati criticised Modi government for its statement about making the parliament free of criminals.

She said that more than 30 per cent of ministers of the Modi government are tainted and had criminal records.

She also said that Union HRD minister Smriti Irani had provided false details about her academic qualification while filing the nomination in the Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)

Bajrang Dal activist murder case : Police accused of falsely implicating innocent Muslims

The police officials, investigating Bajrang Dal activist, Rajesh Poojary’s murder case, have been accused of arresting innocent Muslim youths on false charges, here recently. He was killed on March 21 in Bantwal taluk.

The arrested youths are residents of Mallur taluk. Their families have alleged unjust behaviour on part of the police due to pressure brought upon by members of the Sangh Parivar. Innocent youths belonging to poor families were arrested without any evidence, they said.

Scheme ensures ration cards to DK residents

Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Mr. AB Ibrahim said at the revenue officers meeting that, a scheme has been implemented to make sure that ever family from the Dakshina Kannada district will get ration cards, here recently.

On the occasion, Mr. Sharana Basapa, deputy director of the Food and Civil Supplies department said, “It was due to the Lok Sabha elections that the online filing of ration card applications had come to a standstill, which will soon resume.”

BJP considering to join TDP government in AP

The BJP is considering becoming a part of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government in Andhra Pradesh, party’s state President K Hari Babu said here on Friday.

“However, the final decision on the issue will be taken by the BJP’s central leadership,” he told reporters here on Friday.

Rahul Gandhi to visit family of minor rape victims in Badaun

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will on Saturday visit the family of two gang-rape victims in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident has evoked an outrage. The state police is facing flak for negligence in the case and the ruling Samajwadi Party is being criticised for failing to ensure safety in the state.

All the five main accused, including two policemen, have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape and murder of two Dalit sisters here.

The Uttar Pradesh government has promised to set up a fast-track court to punish the culprits.

6.1 magnitude quake hits southwest China; 43 injured

At least 43 people were injured and 35,000 others evacuated after the 6.1-magnitude earthquake jolted a county in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province.

The quake hit Yingjiang County under Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong yesterday. About 150,000 residents in 15 townships were affected and of them, 35,000 have been relocated, said Wang Junqiang, the Communist Party chief of Dehong Prefecture.

Meanwhile, 3,390 rooms were toppled and 18,000 more were severely damaged, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Nine dead, six aircraft damaged after dust storm, rains in Delhi

A massive dust storm and heavy rainfall hit the national capital on Friday evening killing at least nine people in the NCR region, including six in Delhi.

Delhi Police said six people died and 13 were injured in various areas of the city in accidents like felling of trees, collapse of walls and electrocution following the storm which was accompanied by winds at a speed of over 90 kmph.

Several trees and electric poles were uprooted, leading to disruption in power supply and traffic jams and chaos on roads.

UN concerned about international monitors’s safety in Ukraine

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was “deeply concerned” about the safety of international monitors in Ukraine, some of whom were abducted earlier this week in the country.

“The UN is monitoring the situation very closely and the secretary-general is deeply concerned that international monitors who are involved in efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis in Ukraine continue to be put in grave danger, a situation that has arisen several times in recent days,” Xinhua quoted Ban’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric as saying.

US confirms suicide bombing by American citizen in Syria

The Obama administration confirmed Friday that a US citizen had carried out a suicide bombing in war-torn Syria.

“I can confirm that this individual was a US citizen involved in a suicide bombing in Syria,” Xinhua quoted State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki as telling reporters at a daily news briefing.

Though she refused to give more details, but admitted that this was the first time an American citizen had got involved in such attack in Syria since the conflict started there in March 2011.

Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao is seriously considering appointing two Dy. CMs, one from Muslims and the other from SCs. Mr. K. Eshwar MLA from Dharmapuri and Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, MLC of TRS are likely to get these berths. It is understood that Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao will submit the list of his cabinet colleagues to the Governor on Sunday. Chief Secretary Dr PK Mohanty on Friday issued final orders for the allocation of blocks for Telangana and residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.

While the H-South & North, J, K and L Blocks have been allocated for the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the A, B, C and D blocks have been allocated for Telangana. The Chief Minister of Telangana will have his chambers on sixth floor of C-Block while the Chief Secretary’s chambers will on third floor.
