Computational biology, or application of computers in biology, was progressing well in India due to its increasing resource of students in the IT field, an Indian American scientist said Monday.

Computational biology involves application of computational simulation techniques to the study of biological, behavioural, and social systems.

Oscar Pistorius was allegedly watching porn on his mobile phone the night his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot at his home. Documents leaked to the South African Times reveal that Pistorius”s mobile phone was retrieved from his home in Pretoria.

It also suggested that he was watching porn while Steenkamp was there on Valentine”s Day last year. According to news.com.au, the document also reveals that this evidence gives a picture in ”direct contrast to that of a loving couple spending their time together”.

10 injured in grenade attack

Ten persons were injured as suspected NDFB (Songbijit) militants exploded two hand grenades injuring 10 persons in Assam today on the eve of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state tomorrow.

Two grenades were hurled by two motorcycle riders at Gasbari daily market near Goreswar bordering Kamrup and
Baksa districts at around 6.10 pm injuring 10 persons, police sources said.

Nine of the critically injured were referred to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital, the sources said.

One killed, two injured in an explosion in factory

One person was today killed and two others were seriously injured when an explosion took place in a steel casting factory in the industrial area here, police said.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Purit Agarwal while the injured as Gopal and Rahul, who are in
serious condition and being treated in a local hospital, they said.

The incident took place around 2.30 PM in electricity meter room of the factory, where the three were present,
police said, adding cause of explosion was being probed.

Vehicle lifter in police net

An alleged kingpin of a gang of vehicle lifters active in Delhi-NCR has been arrested here, police said today.

Five stolen bikes and a scooter were recovered from the possession of one Yusuf, a resident of Ghaziabad district,
police said.

Siyani Gate police last night nabbed the accused, said to belong to a gang which is active in Delhi, Noida and
Ghaziabad.

We got a tip-off that Yusuf was coming towards Holy Child crossing and laid a trap to arrest him. He was wanted in
several vehicle theft cases,” police said.

Pakistani prisoner’s body repatriated

The body of a Pakistani national, who allegedly committed suicide in a Jammu jail, was today repatriated via the Wagah border crossing.

Showkat Ali, 42, who hailed from Sialkot in Pakistan, was found hanging from an iron grill inside his barrack in the
Ambphalla district jail by authorities on February 21, police said.

He had been lodged in the jail after being booked by Arnia police for illegally crossing over to India for the second
time on December 12, 2011.

Ali was first apprehended in 2008 for crossing over and confined in the Ambphalla district jail till his deportation

The UK plans to significantly increase visa fees to plug a 50 million pound gap in its budget, a move that can hit Prime Minister David Cameron’s efforts to boost student and business visits from countries like India.

Seeking an “unconditional ceasefire” from the Pakistani Taliban, cricketer-turned- politician Imran Khan today said targeted action should be taken against militants who do not join the peace process.

The head of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party said there is a deadlock in the dialogue and urged the Taliban leadership to announce a ceasefire in order to secure the peace process.

The government should hold negotiations with groups willing to talk and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should lead
the dialogue, he said.

IM waging war against India: NIA charge sheet

Indian Mujahideen (IM), a banned terrorist organisation, has entered into a larger conspiracy of waging war against the government of India, said a charge sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against IM co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and three others for terror strikes in India.

The 277-page charge sheet revealed the war waged by the outfit is to be effected by terrorist acts like bomb blasts at prominent places and important tourist sites of India and kidnapping of selective targets, including foreigners visiting India.

India test-fires medium-range Akash missile again

India Monday successfully test-fired its Akash medium-range surface-to-air missile from a defence base in Odisha, for the second time in less than a week, officials said.

The indigenously-developed missile, with a 27-km range and an effective ceiling of 15 km, was test-fired from the Integrated Test Range of Chandipur in the coastal district of Balasore, 230 km from Bhubaneswar.

Test range director M.V.K.V. Prasad said Akash was test-fired by scientists of Bharat Dynamic Limited, a state-run missile system manufacturer, and Bharat Electronics, a state-run defence electronics company.

Inter practical exams passes off smoothly on Day-13

As many as 71,602 students appeared for Intermediate Practical Examination (IPE) March 2014 Practical Examinations on the 13th day held at 1042 centers across the State on Monday.

Necessary arrangements were made to conduct practical exams. The flying squads with video cameras visited the examination centres. The Board of Intermediate (BIE), in a press release, said that the examinations have been conducted smoothly and peacefully without any untoward incident. (INN)

Kiran Reddy continues consultations for floating new party

Andhra Pradesh’s caretaker Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy continued consultations with his loyalists for a second day Monday on floating a new political party.

Some legislators of ruling Congress met Kiran Reddy, who resigned last week as chief minister and also from the party to protest the state’s bifurcation.

He reportedly told them that the central government insulted Telugu-speaking people and unable to bear this insult he decided to form a new party. “The way Congress handled the whole issue hurt sentiments of people,” a leader quoted him as saying.

Driver commits suicide at Budvel Railway Station

A 35-year-old man died after he was consumed unknown poison at Budvel railway station on Sunday evening hours.

According to Kachiguda Railway police, deceased later identified as C Shivaji (45) a DCM Driver R/o Premavati pet of Rajendranagar consumed unknown poison on Sunday evening hours at Budvel Railway station immediately shifted to nearest hospital where doctors declared brought dead, suicide reason was not known yet, Railway police Kachiguda registered a case and dead body shifted to OGH Mortuary for postmortem. Lok Satta forms committees for Telangana and AP

The Lok Satta Party has constituted two coordination committees – one each for Andhra Pradesh and the other for Telangana– as the first step towards realizing the dreams and aspirations of the people in the two States.
