As promised TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao returned to Telangana after achieving statehood from the national capital here on Wednesday. KCR arrived a few hours late at Shamshabad Airport and from there heli-hopped to Begumpet.

He got a rousing reception by Telangana protagonists, who in large numbers accompanied him to Martyrs’ Memorial en route Begumpet, Rajbhavan, Khairatabad and Lakdi ka pul.

Air India joins fare war, offers up to 30% discount

Days after budget carriers led by SpiceJet lowered ticket rates by up to 75 per cent to avail early summer season bookings, Air India joined the fare war today offering discounts on select routes.

The national carrier announced up to 30 per cent discount on advance ticket purchases with an extended travel period on select flights on local routes as well as domestic leg of international flights.

The scheme covers 115 flights and offers approximately 30 per cent discount on the apex 30, 60 and 90 levels, Air India said in a release here.

Centering worker body retrieves from drain

A 43 year-old-man body was retrieved from a nala at Kanaka Durga Colony of Langer house on Tuesday.

According to Langer House Police, The deceased identified as H Shankar Das (43) S/o Hanumaiah R/o Kanaka durga colony of Langer House, about two years ago deceased suspended from RTC now he worked as a Centering worker, on Tuesday he went out of his house on Centring work at Kanaka Durga Colony accidentally he wall fell down in drain due to which he was died. Police retrieve the body from drain.

Daring robbers strike at TRS leader’s house

Sack Khurshid for his derogatory remark on Modi: Munde

Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde today appealed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to sack External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid over his unsavoury remark against BJP’s PM nominee Narendra Modi.

“This is new low the Congress leaders have hit during their campaign for upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” Munde told reporters while responding to a query on Khurshid’s “impotent” jibe at Modi in the context of 2002 communal riots.

EC should take ‘hard decisions’ on opinion polls: Sibal

Law Minister Kapil Sibal today said the Election Commission should take “hard decisions” if it finds that opinion polls are used to further the cause of parties as a sting operation showed that poll data is manipulated by agencies conducting such exercise.

“If this sting operation represents the truth, those opinion poll results amount to paid news, which subverts democracy and all that we stand for.

Court rejects Vanzara’s plea seeking charge sheet copy

A court here today rejected suspended IPS officer D G Vanzara’s plea seeking a copy of the supplementary charge sheet filed by CBI in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of CBI court H S Khutvad had reserved the order yesterday.

Vanzara’s counsel, V D Gajjar, had contended that even after 20 days of filing of the charge sheet it had not been taken on record by the court.

“Under section 206 of the criminal procedure code, it is magistrate’s duty to provide the copy to the accused,” Gajjar contended.

Two factions of YSR Congress clash; country made bombs used

Two rival factions of the YSR Congress today clashed near Ambavaram village in Lingal sone of Kadapa district and hurled country-made bombs in which some people sustained minor injuries, police said here.

According to police, allegedly, Krishna Reddy of Gunakan Palli had a feud against Ankireddy Sudhakar Reddy and his group for decades.

His brother was killed in 2006 by the rival group. He also had survived an attack in 2007.

Kejriwal alleges opinion polls are a big scam

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday alleged that a big scam was going on in the country in the name of opinion polls.

Former Delhi chief, Kejriwal, was reacting on sting operation shown by a news channel in New Delhi, which involved eleven opinion polls agencies.

Reportedly, a television news channel sparked a new controversy after a number of opinion polling agencies approached by undercover reporters agreed to manipulate poll data.

NCPUL seeks admission in Arabic Diploma

The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) had announced a Certificate one year Diploma Course in Arabic Language and two years Diploma Course in Functional Arabic.

Those who are interested to join these courses can go through the said notification and try to admit into the said courses. Admissions are in progress and the last date is 28th February. There is no age or qualification limit. The NCPUL will provide books to those students who get admission. Classes will be conducted on every Sunday.

India and Saudi Arabia sign defence cooperation pact

Reflecting growing congruence in bilateral ties, India and Saudi Arabia today inked a defence cooperation pact to take their strategic partnership further in areas of security.

The pact was signed following talks between Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Vice President Hamid Ansari during which a range of bilateral, regional and international issues figured.

The defence cooperation pact will allow exchange of defence-related information, military training and education as well as cooperation in areas varying from hydrography and security to logistics.

Telugu people will live like brothers: KTR

Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K Tarakarama Rao on Wednesday expressed confidence that the division of Andhra Pradesh would not affect the relationship between Telugu people.

Speaking to media persons at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad here, KTR described the bifurcation of State for carving out Telangana as separation of two brothers. He said despite division, the Telugu people could live like brothers and develop both the States with mutual cooperation and understanding. Cong talks of merger with TRS; TRS says no

The possibility of TRS merging with Congress seemed to have hit a roadblock today with the regional party of Andhra Pradesh saying there was no such move but said it was open to an alliance.

On the other hand, Congress claimed TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao has expressed readiness to merge but TRS has, in turn, said no such assurance has been given.

Minor girl stabbed to death for refusing suitor

A 14-year-old girl student was allegedly stabbed to death by a youth after she refused his marriage proposal in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh, police said today.

The accused, Ravi, entered the girl’s house at Kankuru village of Jaipur Mandal in the district last night and allegedly stabbed her, they said, adding the girl was initially shifted to a local hospital and then referred to another hospital.

She, however, died on the way, police said.

Lone LJP MLA in Bihar resigns over BJP alliance

Zakir Anwar, the Lok Janshakti Party’s lone legislator in Bihar, Wednesday resigned from the party to protest the LJP’s likely alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Lok Sabha polls.

“Yes, I have resigned from the LJP in protest,” Anwar said.

He said there was no moral ground for him to continue with the LJP after the party said the option for alliance with the BJP was open.

Anwar is legislator from the Araria assembly constituency and was keen on contesting the Lok Sabha polls.

Rahman Khan seeks apology from Modi for 2002 communal riots

Not satisfied with BJP chief Rajnath Singh apologising to Muslims, Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan today demanded an apology from BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, saying the person heading the state during 2002 riots must take moral responsibility.

“The person, who is the culprit has to say and not Rajnath Singh…Whoever is heading the state must assume moral responsibility,” Khan told reporters here without naming Modi.

SC commutes death sentence, jails rapist for 35 years

The Supreme Court has commuted the death sentence of a man convicted for raping a minor girl who later died of her injuries, but sentenced him to a minimum of 35 years’ imprisonment without remission.

“We are of the view that in spite of the fact that the appellant had committed a heinous crime and raped an innocent, helpless and defenceless minor girl who was in his custody, he is liable to be punished severely,” said the bench of Justice B.S. Chauhan and Justice M.Y. Eqbal in their judgment Tuesday.

The case took less than eight months from the date of incidence to its conclusion.

Congress demands police case against Punjab minister

The Punjab Congress Wednesday demanded registration of a police case against state cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Anil Joshi and his family members for allegedly committing forgery and having dual votes at two places.

In a statement issued Wednesday, state Congress vice president O.P. Soni and other leaders said the Election Commission had asked the Amritsar election returning officer to file a criminal case against Joshi and his family members, but the Amritsar deputy commissioner opted to file a complaint in the court of chief judicial magistrate.
