SSC toppers of Urdu medium teachers will be awarded in a function to be held in February in Hyderabad.

Mr. Mohammed Wahajuddin Siddiqui informed that students from Govt., ZP and Private Urdu medium schools who get top ranks in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Districts will be given awards. In the same manner, teachers who are teaching Urdu as first language in High Schools will also be given awards.

A meeting of the committee for sighting of the Moon was held yesterday at Husaini Building, Moazam Jahi Market. The Moon was not sighted in the city of Hyderabad. No news was received from any part of the country of sighting the Moon.

Kerala woman ends demo against sand mafia on CM assurance

A woman from Kerala, who was protesting at Jantar Mantar here seeking action against sand mining mafia in the state, today ended her nearly four-month long agitation after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy gave her assurance in this regard.

“The Chief Minister has assured me that his government would take strong steps to protect the state’s coastal areas from the sand mining mafia,” Jazeera, who met Chandy at Kerala House, said.

Sushma Swaraj slams Centre on fishermen’s issue

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today accused the Centre of remaining “indifferent” to the problem of fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Gujarat who are affected by attacks from the Sri Lankan and Pakistan Navy.

One held for siphoning off Rs 10 lakh from Laxman’s account

One person was today arrested for allegedly siphoning off Rs 10 lakh from the bank account of former Indian cricketer V V S Laxman through net banking, police said.

Izazul, a resident of Malda was today arrested from Salt Lake area under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar police commissionarate after Rs 10 lakh was credited to his bank account from Laxman’s account in a Hyderabad-based bank.

Manager of the nationalised bank, where the accused is having an account informed the police due to this unusual transaction, leading to Izazul’s detention.

740,000 displaced inside South Sudan: UN

An estimated 740,000 people are displaced inside South Sudan with the largest increase in Unity State, a UN humanitarian agency said Friday.

According to the latest figures from the UN Office for Coordination of humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), some 123,400 people have fled to neighbouring countries of Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan, Xinhua reported.

“People displaced are hosted in over 100 locations with 18 sites hosting over 10,000 people each. Aid organisations have assisted nearly 300,000 people so far, the majority outside UN bases in rural areas,” OCHA said in its latest report.

15 Palestinians shot in West Bank, Gaza demos: medics

Israeli soldiers shot and wounded 10 Palestinians near the West Bank town of Ramallah during a protest today over the killing of a teenager, Palestinian medics and security sources said.

In Gaza, meanwhile, medics said five more Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army gunfire near the border fence with Israel.

The sources said the Palestinians in the West Bank were hit by live rounds on the outskirts of Jalazun refugee camp and hospitalised in Ramallah, including one with serious injuries.

Egypt military: Airstrikes kill 13 Sinai militants

Egyptian military officials say the number of suspected militants killed by airstrikes in the Sinai Peninsula has risen to 13.

The officials say Apache helicopters fired missiles at houses used as hideouts and gathering points for the suspected militants.

The explosions resounded for miles and smoke rose in the sky from the targeted villages. Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

A long-running military offensive has been stepped up after militants shot down a helicopter earlier this week, killing all its crew members.

AAP hits out at Delhi police over death of Arunachal youth
