The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday protested against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s method of governance and the hike in power rates.

Party leader Vijay Goel said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is incapable of running a government, as none of the promises they had made, have been fulfilled. Instead, the situation was becoming worse with hikes in power rates and of LPG.

UAE makes breastfeeding for new mums mandatory for two years

United Arab Emirates’ Federal National Council has passed a clause, which is a part of their new Child Rights Law, to make it compulsory for new moms to breastfeed their babies for two years.

There was a “marathon debate” over the legislation, but it was finalised as it is every child’s right to be breastfed, Huffington Post reported.

However, not all new moms are able to nurse, and in those cases if a woman is prohibited by health reasons, the council will provide a “wet nurse” to her.

Rash driving by the student leads to serial accident

On Thursday night, three persons, including a two-year-old boy, were injured in a serial accident after an engineering student drove his car recklessly near Meenakshi Mall at Hulimavu

Two school buses, an autorickshaw and a car were also smashed up in the accident. The injured were rushed to a nearby private hospital and are said to be out of danger. Sachin was arrested on the charge of rash and negligent driving by the police.

CA boss says India deserves ‘lion’s share’ of cricket revenue for ‘hiring out’ team to ICC

Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Wally Edwards has said that the Indian cricket board deserved a bigger share of world cricket revenue for ‘hiring of’ Team India to the ICC and added the controversial governance reforms are ‘critical for the future of the game’.

Yahoo going back to basics to boost search tech

Yahoo is reportedly directing its focus back on algorithmic search and search advertising, tech site, Recode, has revealed.

The Internet giant is said to have ordered up two new search-related initiatives, codenamed Fast Break and Curveball.

According to Cnet, the projects are reportedly priorities for Yahoo; both with three-to-four month time frames, and involving search chief Laurie Mann, mobile head Adam Cahan, and SVP of platforms Jay Rossiter.

Justin Bieber released after being held up on suspicion of carrying pot on jet

Justin Bieber has been released after being held at Teterboro airport as officials suspected that he was carrying marijuana on his private plane.

According to TMZ, the Canadian pop star had chartered a jet for his dad and entourage of friends to attend the Super Bowl pre-parties, but the plane was ordered held until drug-sniffing dogs could check it out, Fox News reported.

According to the New York Post, the ‘ Baby’ singer was held for several hours before being cleared by the customs officials, who had detected a strong odor of pot when the plane arrived.

Sarah Jessica Parker has rebuffed rumors that she will be replacing US Vogue editor and close pal Anna Wintour when the latter steps down from her position for retirement.

A rep of the ‘ Sex and the City ‘ star said that the rumours are “false,” the Daily Express reported.

Meanwhile, a Vogue rep has also revealed that Wintour and Parker have been friends for a long time and the idea of the 48-year-old actress taking Wintour’s position at the publication has never been discussed.

Real ‘Life of Pi castaway’ survives 16 months adrift on boat

A real-life castaway has claimed to have survived for 16 months adrift on boat by catching turtles and birds with his bare hands.

The emaciated man had long hair and a beard, and claimed to have been drifting in the 7.3-metre-fibreglass boat since setting out from Mexico, more than 12,500 km away, for El Salvador on September 2012, the Guardian reported.

The man, dressed only in a ragged pair of underpants, told his rescuers on Thursday that his companion had died at sea several months ago.

Men, latest breed to fall prey to violent sexual assaults

The number of men who claim to be the victims of sexual assault is increasing steeply.

According to the police reports, during the past five years the number of male victims of sex assault has jumped from about 480 to 710, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The reports also said that although the number of female victims has also increased by about one-third, the number of male victims have increased by 50 per cent.

Organisations working with male survivors said that while women make up the vast majority of sexual violence victims, many assaults on men still go unreported.

‘CAG audit will tell where the money went’: Kejriwal on power tariff hike

Reacting to the hike in power rates, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on discoms would ascertain the lack of funds as stated by power distribution companies.

“They are saying they don’t have funds. Where did all the money go? CAG audit will tell us where the money went. Let us wait for the report,” he said.

Earlier on Friday, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) announced a hike in the power tariff ranging from 6 to 8 percent applicable from February 1 onwards.

Teenage drivers dying in auto accidents is on the rise

City traffic police conducted a study which revealed that fatal road accidents involving teens are on the rise over the past two years.

The report that was released by the police on Friday states that most of the young victims are two-wheeler riders.The report is both a macro and micro-analysis of all road accidents reported from 2011 to 2013.

The highest number of people who are killed in road accidents are two-wheeler riders in the age group of 19 and 35. It is also noticed that the causalities reported in the age group of 1 to 12 are also on the rise from the past two years.

Abdul Nasser Madani ‘s interim bail plea rejected by SC

The bail application on medical grounds by Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case, was rejected by the Supreme Court. However, the SC has directed the Karnataka government to provide Madani with medical treatment in a hospital till he undergoes an eye surgery, here on January 28.

Mining near BIT campus leads to protest

Students of Bearys Institution of Technology (BIT), Innoli protested against the mining activity going on in a quarry near the institution on January 28.

The students complained that the noise and air pollution caused in the campus, due to proximity of mining, was affecting their studies and also causing health hazards. They also said that ponds dug in the area as part of the mining process have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Depression may fuel heart disease risk later in life

An early prevention and treatment of childhood depression can reduce adult cardiovascular disease, shows a study.

Depressed children are likely to be obese, smoke and be inactive that can lead to heart disease as early as their teen years.

Further, researchers observed higher rates of heart disease in the parents of adolescents that had been depressed as children.

Mulayam Singh Yadav’s cycle rally in Lucknow today

A Kindergarten student breaks Guinness record

On Friday, a five-year-old boy in the City entered the Guinness Book of World Records by skating under 39 Toyota Qualis cars in 28 seconds.

Gagan S is a kindergarten student at Florence School in Basveshwaranagar, son of Satish, who was employed at a washing machine service centre.

“Gagan was always passionate about skating. He started attending skating classes just one-and-a half years ago. His dedication and commitment at such a young age motivated us and we wanted him to achieve something in skating,” said a proud Satish.

Smoking rooms health hazard for kids, spouses

Non smokers beware! Frequently visiting smoking areas in houses, apartments, offices and hotels is just as deadly as first-hand or second-hand smoke, shows research.

Third-hand smoke is a potential health threat to children, spouses of smokers and workers in environments where smoking is allowed, it warned.

“We studied on mice the effects of third-hand smoke on several organ systems under conditions that simulated third-hand smoke exposure of humans,” said Manuela Martins-Green, a professor of cell biology at the University of California, Riverside.

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was ranked fourth in a recent poll of the world’s most beautiful women, says she is overwhelmed with the love showered on her by fans from across the world.

The survey was conducted by international website Hollywood Buzz.

The list saw more than four million people send in their votes selecting the most intelligent, desirable and successful women in 2013-14.

Aishwarya took the fourth place right after actresses Monica Belluci, Kate Upton and Angelina Jolie who took the first, second and third position, respectively.
