Modi to address ‘Vijay Shankhnaad rally’ rally in Meerut today

Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is all set to address a rally in Meerut on Sunday.

Lakhs of people are expected to attend today’s rally and arrangements have been made to ensure that people travelling from far-off areas reach the venue.

The security of the area has been strengthened and an inspector general of police has been made in-charge of the rally for the first time.

Programme on preparation for the exam at Masjid-e-Azizia

Students Islamic Organisation and administrative committee Masjid Azizia Humayun Nagar is conducting a 2-day programme on preparation for the exam, on 2nd and 3rd February at Masjid-e-Azizia Humayun Nagar after Maghrib.

Dr. Abdul Khubair Siddiqui will address on Sunday while Mr. Abdul Jabbar and Mr. Aijaz Muhiuddin Waseem will address on Monday. Parents of the students are requested to attend the programme. Separate arrangement for girl students and ladies.

Voting begins in Thai election amid opposition boycott

Voting began this morning in Thailand’s violence-plagued general elections amid boycott calls from the opposition, even as anti-government protesters blocked delivery of ballot papers to several polling stations.

Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was among the early voters, casting her ballot in front of the media at a polling station at the Klong Lamchiak School near her house here. TV channels said protesters were not present there.

Teacher beaten up for molestation in AP

A teacher of a private school was on Saturday beaten up for allegedly molesting a student and was later handed over to police.

According to the complaint, A Bhaskar Rao (33), a teacher of mathematics at a private school in Kancharapalem area had been misbehaving with a class IX girl for the past few weeks.

Though the girl complained to the principal of the school, the authorities did not take any action against him.

The victim then narrated the incident to her parents, after which the local residents caught hold of the teacher and thrashed him up severely.

Youth gets 7-yr jail term for raping married woman

A youth has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a Delhi court for raping a married woman at knife point in her husband’s absence.

Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna handed down the jail term to 26-year-old Anil Kumar, who was also held guilty of causing knife injuries to the victim during commission of the crime.

Taliban peace talks: Imran distances himself

Distancing himself from the the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said the militant group should select its own representatives for the peace talks, a media report said.

In a statement issued Saturday, Imran Khan said the militant group should select its own representatives for the talks, adding that the he had full faith in the four-member talk panel formed by the government, the Dawn online reported.

“However, we will discuss in our core committee meeting Monday how the PTI can be of assistance to further the dialogue,” he added.

Pak cricketer Umar Akmal arrested, Bro Kamran appeals to Pak PM

Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has been charged by Gulberg police in Lahore for allegedly misbehaving with a warden after committing a traffic violation. He has been booked under Section 186, 279 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Akmal was arrested and an FIR was registered for “obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, rash driving or riding on a public way and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty”.

Lack of political management made Telangana controversial:BJP

Favouring the early creation of Telangana, BJP today said the lack of political management in creation of the new state has made the cause controversial.

The opposition party hoped that the interests of two regions of Telangana and Seemandhra would be taken care of by the government and hoped Telangana sees the light of the day soon.

EC to conduct vulnerability mapping in Gujarat for LS polls

The Election Commission will carry out vulnerability mapping in Gujarat before the Lok Sabha polls, based on which the deployment of security forces during the elections would be strategised.

Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi, who was here to review poll preparedness ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, told this to reporters.

Zutshi held meetings with the representatives of political parties, district collectors, police officials as well as the state Chief Secretary.

SP terms Kejriwal immature for naming Mulayam in graft list

Samajwadi Party today hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for issuing the list of corrupt politicians and termed his view on the subject as immature.

“By issuing the list of corrupt leaders, Kejriwal has tried to project himself as the only honest person while branding all others as corrupt. Such a belief and view can only be that of a very immature leader,” SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said in a statement.

“Such a statement only goes on to prove degradation in politics that anyone can say whatever he likes for a senior and experienced politician,” Chaudhary said.
