A new study has revealed that gardening, often considered to be an activity reserved for adults, is beneficial for children too and they can also reap the benefits of digging, raking, and weeding.

Researchers Sin-Ae Park, Ho-Sang Lee, Kwan-Suk Lee, Ki-Cheol Son, and Candice Shoemaker in South Korea said that the data can inform future development of garden-based programs that help engage children in physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles.

Taylor Swift ‘completely loves Prince William’

Taylor Swift has confessed that she still can’t believe that she got to sing with Prince William , adding that she completely loves him.

The Duke of Cambridge, Swift and Jon Bon Jovi sang Jovi’s karaoke anthem ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ on stage at the Centrepoint charity, the Daily Express reported.

Wakf Act defective – Needs amendments

Mr. Mohammed Abdur Raheem Quraishi, Asst. General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board applauded the efforts of Govt. of India for passing Wakf Act in the Parliament. He told that it has some defects. He demanded that Muslim wakf properties should also be included in “Public Premises Act”. Govt. of India incorporated certain suggestions proposed by All India Muslim Personal Law Board but certain other clauses have also been included for which there was no demand from the Muslim community. These clauses are interference in the Personal Law of the Muslims.

Saudi Arabia, close partner of the US: White House

Calling their bilateral relationship as broad, deep and wide-ranging, the White House while announcing a presidential visit to the country, has said that notwithstanding mutual differences, Saudi Arabia is a “close partner” of the US.

“Saudi Arabia is a close partner of the United States and we have a bilateral relationship that is broad and deep and covers a range of areas,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.

US President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia next month.

Pakistani hackers claim defacing 2,000 Indian websites on 26th Jan

Pakistani hackers have claimed responsibility for hacking over 2,000 Indian websites on 26 January, Indian media reported.

The Hindu reported on January 29 that hackers defaced more than 2,000 Indian websites on Republic Day in what is being termed as ‘a major cyber attack’.

According to the Express Tribune, the report said that the attackers’ Internet protocol (IP) address was traced to Pakistan.

‘Next Kargil could happen in the Andamans’

India’s next Kargil could happen in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, former Indian Navy chief Admiral Arun Prakash has said.

“There is a real threat that poachers, smugglers, narcotics traffickers or terrorist groups could occupy some of the uninhabited islands and create a Kargil-like situation,” Adm. Arun Prakash said Sunday on the concluding day of a two-day workshop on the security of India’s coastline and its islands organised by the Federation of Integrated National Security, an RSS-backed NGO on security affairs.

Urdu University students face inconvenience

The Students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University pursuing their studies through distance mode are facing a lot of difficulties due to the change of procedure in payment of examination fees. Most of the students who could not pay their examination fees have been deprived of appearing in examinations. There is no specific notification for payment of examination fees for the second year students. Last year this issue was resolved by allowing such students to write the examinations. Their results were released only after the payment of examination fees.

Government seeks cooperation for passing bills under Telangana shadow

With the final session of the 15th Lok Sabha set to begin Wednesday, the UPA government Monday sought cooperation of opposition parties in passing anti-corruption legislation amid possibility of the Telangana issue again affecting proceedings.

The BJP and CPI-M said the Congress should restrain its own members and allies from causing disruptions, referring to the Telangana protests by Congress members while the Samajwadi Party and Janata Dal-United said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government should focus on the financial business during the session.

We don’t have faith in state police for Modi’s rally: BJP

The West Bengal BJP today expressed concern over security arrangements made by the state and Kolkata Police for Narendra Modi’s rally in the city on February 5, saying it does not have faith in the police.

“We are cooperating with the state police, but we don’t have any faith in it. Today there was a meeting between state, Kolkata and Gujarat police officials at the airport. Airport officials and BJP leaders were also present,” state BJP chief Rahul Sinha said at a press conference.

14-year-old girl raped by neighbour in Ghaziabad

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Modi Nagar area of Ghaziabad this afternoon.

The girl was alone in her house when the youth, Sachin, came and took her to a nearby vacant house where he allegedly raped her, according to the complaint filed by the girl’s parents.

After reaching home, she told her parents about the incident and a police case was registered against the youth.

On an information that the youth was fleeing via Muradnagar area, a police team was sent there and he was arrested, police said.

CPI demands to regularize Home Guards services

State Secretary of CPI, Dr. K. Narayana demanded the CM of AP Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to regularize the services of Home Guards. They discharge their duties and perform hard work but they are always neglected. In fact Home Guards do more work than the regular police constables. Most of the Home Guard have reached the age of Superannuation but the Govt. is deliberately avoiding to regularize their services.

Villagers threaten to boycott LS polls

Residents of nearly 25 villages in and around Karamadai in the district today announced their decision to boycott the coming Lok Sabha polls, if the administration failed to solve the menace of elephants, police said.

The villagers, under a banner of Joint Action Committee, staged a demonstration in Karamadai bus stand, about 35 Kms from here and asked the administration to initiate action to protect them and their crop from the elephants, which were straying into the habitats for the last nine months.

AP Reorganisation Bill returned to Centre

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill-2013, that was referred to the state Legislature for expressing its views on the proposed bifurcation of the state to create Telangana, was today returned to the Centre.

The Bill under Article 3 of the Constitution, which was “rejected” by the state Legislature by voice vote on January 30, was returned along with translated copies of the statements given by members of the Legislative Council and the Assembly and also over 10,000 “amendments/expression of views,” official sources said

Rayapati says another No-Trust move will be tabled

Congress MP Rayapati Sambashiva Rao here on Monday disclosed that they would serve a no-confidence motion against the UPA government on February 5 in protest against the Centre’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to the media here, Sambashiva Rao said the Seemandhra leaders, along with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, would meet President Pranab Mukharjee and urge him not to clear Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill. Citing the change in its stand on bifurcation of the State, he hoped that the draft Telangana Bill would not come to Parliament.
