Sahara chief Subrata Roy surrenders before UP police

Sahara chief Subrata Roy surrendered before the Lucknow police on Friday. Roy’s legal counsel Ram Jethmalani has confirmed that his client has surrendered before the police. Roy will remain in police custody till March 4.

“On February 28 morning, as a law-abiding citizen, he willfully decided to surrender before UP police,” Roy’s son Seemanto Roy told reporters in a press conference held here.

” Sahara India Parivar has always put nation ahead of business interest. In times of crisis we have always remained strong in times of crisis,” he said.

Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha issued summon for April 7 against Kejriwal on the complaint in which Gadkari had alleged that he was defamed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, who had included his name in the party’s list of “India’s most corrupt”.

50 SEZs seek time to finish their projects

Over 50 developers of special economic zones (SEZ), including Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Vedanta Aluminium and Tata Consultancy Services, have asked for more time from the government to implement their projects.

The requests will be considered by the Board of Approval (BoA), headed by Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher, on March 10.

Other developers that have sought additional time include Alstom Bharat Forge Power, Sesa Sterlite Ltd and Cognizant Technology Solutions.

Saudi Arabia asks India to ease tax norms

IM founder co-founder Yasin Bhatkal’s custody ends today

The custody of Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and his aide Asadullah Akhtar, who were arrested in connection with the 2011 Mumbai terror attack, ends on Friday.

A special MCOCA court had on February 6 extended heir custody till today.

According to the Mumbai Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), Bhatkal played a very important role in procuring explosives and making Improvised Explosive Device (IED) used in 2011 Mumbai terror attack.

Japan launches global rainfall monitoring satellite

Japan launched a rocket early Friday with a global precipitation monitoring satellite developed by US and Japanese agencies on board, authorities said.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said the rocket, H-2A launch vehicle, was lifted off from Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture, reported Xinhua.

The satellite, which is 6.5 metres in height and four tonnes in weight, is designed to forecast abnormal weather conditions such as deluge and drought by monitoring rain clouds and precipitation.

Rajiv case: SC restrains TN govt from releasing 4 convicts

After staying release of three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the Supreme Court today restrained the Tamil Nadu government from letting out four more convicts in the case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam directed the state government to maintain status quo and said it will hear on March 6 the Centre’s plea against the state government’s decision to release all seven prisoners undergoing life imprisonment.

Opposing the Centre’s plea, the Tamil Nadu government said the petition is not maintainable as the Union government cannot file a writ in the case.

Tech Mahindra to acquire IT services arm of BASF

IT services major Tech Mahindra on Wednesday said it has signed an agreement to acquire the IT and consultancy services business of chemical giant BASF in a bid to strengthen its presence in Western Europe.

Financial details of the deal, made through its German subsidiary, were not disclosed. It is expected to close by June this year.
