Salman Khan says that he is not averse to doing remakes

Salman Khan today dismissed reports that he was averse to acting in remakes after his recent movie “Jai Ho”, which is the remake of Chiranjeevi-starrer Telugu film “Stalin”, failed at the box office.

“I will do remakes. Who said I won’t do them? I never said that I won’t do remakes. Whenever a good remake comes up, I will do it, but my forthcoming movies are of a different kind,” Salman said, at the launch of a music album by playback singer and song writer Armaan Malik, who made his debut in “Jai Ho”.

Libyan commander’s son kidnapped in Benghazi

Unidentified assailants Thursday kidnapped a Libyan commander’s son in Benghazi city, an official source said.

Son of Libyan Special Forces Army’s commander Wanees Bokhamada was abducted while he was leaving university, Xinhua quoted the source as saying.

The incident occurred a day after Libya’s interior minister escaped unharmed an assassination attempt.

Geneva talks II: Syrian government, opposition discuss security

Syrian government and the opposition delegations discussed Thursday the security situation in the country on the ground, the international mediator Lakhdar Brahimi said.

Speaking during a press conference, Brahimi, the UN-Arab League’s special envoy to Syria, said on the sixth day of talks the two sides had a “very long meeting” this morning, Xinhua reported.

“We had another very long meeting this morning where we discussed very sensitive and important subject, that is the security situation in Syria and terrorism,” he said.

Obama’s remarks on Iran ‘unrealistic’: Tehran

Iran has dismissed US President Barack Obama’s recent remarks about Tehran and the region as “unrealistic and unconstructive”.

Cabinet approves wakf bill

Meeting a long-standing demand of the muslim community, the Union Cabinet today gave its approval to a bill that seeks to give wakf properties the status of public premises and make unauthorised occupation of waqf land a criminal offence.

The Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill is expected to be tabled in the resumed Winter session of Parliament beginning on February 5.

Tough there is no exact estimate of the extent of unauthorised occupation of wakf properties, community leaders say it could be well over 50 percent.

Saudi beheads Indian worker for murder

An Indian worker convicted of murdering a Saudi was beheaded by the sword in the Riyadh region today, the interior ministry said.

Mohammed Latif was found guilty of having beaten to death his “sponsor,” Dhafer bin Mohammed al-Dussari, with a sharp object and then dumping his body in a well, it was quoted by state news agency SPA as saying.

A system called “kafala” in Arabic gives local sponsors control over foreign workers in the oil-rich Gulf, often leading to disputes.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday asked the central government to respect the will of the people of the state, which he claimed, is reflected in the resolution passed in the legislature rejecting the state reorganization bill.

97-year-old Iraqi dead after marrying a young girl

A 97-year-old Iraqi man who hit headlines last 6 months for marrying a young girl, he died at his home in the Arab country nearly six months after his marriage.

Mohammed Al Majmai triggered controversy in Iraqi and other countries when he wedded a girl who was nearly 70 years younger than him.

Two of his grandsons wedded on the same day in their home province of Saladin north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad in July 2013.

Media said Al Majmai had 325 children, grand children and great grand children.

LPG decision out of fear of Modi, says Naidu

Nanded train fire probably caused by passengers, Railway probe

The devastating fire in Bangalore- Nanded Express train in Andhra Pradesh that left 26 dead was “most probably” caused due to negligence by unidentified passengers, a provisional Railway probe into the December 28 incident said.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Southern Region, who carried out the probe, also recommended switching off power points provided for charging laptops and mobile phones in AC coaches between 10 pm and 6 am.
