Will go to court and answer Kejriwal, says Abdullah

Union Minister Farooq Abdullah today said he will approach court and give “answer” to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for mentioning his name in his list of “corrupt” politicians.

“I am happy that my name figured in the list. I will go to the court and answer… I will ask him (Kejriwal) also,” Abdullah told reporters after calling on DMK chief M Karunanidhi at his residence here.

Drawing up a list of “corrupt” politicians, Kejriwal said at the National Council meeting in Delhi, attended by AAP workers, that the party will field candidates against them.

WW-II bomb detonated in Germany

Bomb disposal experts successfully detonated a 250 kg World War-II bomb in a western Germany city after about 5,000 people were evacuated late Thursday evening, a city spokesman said.

The bomb was found Thursday in Cologne during construction work near the Uni-Centre, a 45-storey apartment building housing about 2,000 people, reported Xinhua.

Because of the tricky construction of the fuse, bomb disposal experts had to opt for a controlled detonation of the bomb, and residents within a radius of 300 metres of the site were evacuated.

SC stays execution of Bhullar

The Supreme Court today stayed the execution of Khalistani terrorist Devinderpal Singh Bhullar and agreed to review its judgement by which it had rejected the 1993 Delhi bomb blast convict’s plea to commute his death sentence to life term.

A four-judge bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam issued notice to the Centre and Delhi government on a curative petition filed by Bhullar’s wife Navneet Kaur.

Bike rider went to wish his friend and met with an accident

On early Thursday morning, a bike rider smash his vehicle into the parapet of Hebbal flyover and fell to his death 30 feet below. The victim was identified as Joseph Gerald, 23, died of head injuries at M S Ramaiah Hospital and his friend Sunil Subramanya, 24, who was riding pillion, suffered severe injuries.

Gerald was a resident of Chikkabanavara and Subramanya were working at a private company near Shanthinagar. Subramanya had joined the firm just four days ago. The duo were on their way to Mattikere to wish a friend on his birthday at midnight when the accident occurred.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Friday said he has prepared a list of corrupt people.

Addressing the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national executive committee meet here, Kejriwal said: “I have made a list of corrupt people. This is just the beginning and the list will grow. I am presenting the list in front of you, and you decide whether these people should be voted or not.”

Man committed suicide by hanging on tree

A 27year-old man’s body was found hanging from a tree near Sanghi Temple in Hayathnagar area here on Wednesday evening.

The victim’s elder brother spotted the body and informed the police.

According to police officials,“The youth Kranti Kumar, a resident of Koheda village, went to work in a nearby ice cream factory on Wednesday and did not return. In the evening hours his body was found hanging from a tree near Sanghi Temple“.

Goods vehicle toppled, driver killed

On early Thursday morning, a goods auto driver was killed on KG Road after he lost control over the vehicle and came under it as it toppled.

Sudhakar, 24 years-old was on his way to a star hotel to collect garbage, along with his cleaner and helper Arun.

Arun narrated the matter to the police that the toolbox fell off the autorickshaw and Sudhakar, who tried to pick it up while driving, lost control of the vehicle which toppled. Although Sudhakar sustained a severe head injury, Arun escaped with bruises.

Amazon stock plunges 8 percent following disappointing Q4 results

Amazon has reportedly disappointed Wall Street analysts as its stock fell more than 8 percent after it released its fourth-quarter earnings.

While Wall Street expected earnings of 67 cents a share and a revenue of $26.05 billion, Amazon failed to stand up to investors’ expectations with just 51 cents-per-share and a revenue of $25.59 billion in the fourth quarter .

Meanwhile, Amazon’s revenue for 2013 saw an increase of 22 percent against its last year’s revenue.

Researchers have mapped the surface of a brown dwarf – an object larger than a planet and smaller than a star – for the first time.

The team of European scientists carried out a pair of studies to analyze the atmosphere of the nearest brown dwarf to Earth, known as Luhman 16B, some 6.5 light-years from the Sun.

Researchers found that Luhman 16B has a complex structure of patchy clouds made up of droplets of liquid iron and other minerals, with temperatures in the clouds exceeding 1,000 degree Celsius.

Man dies while crossing railway track

A man died while crossing railway track near Osmania University area. According to Railway police Kachiguda, 40-year-old Arun Kumar, resident of Ambernagar was hit by an unknown train when he was crossing the railway track. He died on the spot. Railway police is investigating the case.

Facebook has reportedly announced its much-anticipated visual news reader app for iOS.

The app, dubbed ‘Paper’, is the first one out of Facebook Creative Labs and intends to deliver human and algorithm-curated full-screen articles and photos in categories a user selects like Tech, LOL, and Pop Culture.

According to Tech Crunch, Paper would be launched on the iOS platform to everyone in the US on February 3, just a day before the social networking site turns 10.

Google is reportedly celebrating the Chinese New Year that begins today with its latest doodle.

The doodle features an image of a girl on a rocking horse and a boy holding fire crackers and lanterns to mark the dawn of the Year of the Horse.

According to the Daily Express, the Chinese New Year of the Horse is said to bring riches and prosperity and is celebrated by more than a billion people around the globe.

Apple has reportedly revealed that around 130,000 apps, out of more than one billion apps, in its App Store are from Chinese developers.

Apple, in its Q1 earnings call, revealed the figures and apps from Chinese developers are expected to rise as the tech giant broadens its reach in the country.

According to Mashable, Apple’s Q1 earnings call focused primarily on expansion in Asia while overall growth in China is up 20 percent and revenue grew 31 percent during the quarter.

Supermarket worker commits suicide

In an incident occurred in Humayunnagr area, a girl committed suicide in the hostel by consuming poison. However the motive behind the suicide is not yet ascertained.

Inspector Humayunnagar Mr. Biksham Reddy told that 20-year-old Monika who hails from Nalgonda, consumed poison at working women hostel. The girl worked in a supermarket located at NMDC area. Police Humayunnagar is investigating the case.

Fire in a godown, loss of goods worth Rs 36 crore

On Thursday, electronic goods, clothes, Domestic appliances and other products stored in a godown were destroyed in a fire mishap. The loss has been put at Rs 36 crore.The godown is located at Indlawadi in Anekal Taluk.

Twelve fire tenders took more than six hours to drench the blaze. There were no casualties. Police suspects that electrical short circuit might be the reason for the mishap. The accident occurred at Future Supply Chain’s godown owned by Big Bazar Group.

A new study has found that extracts of the geranium plant Pelargonium sidoides inactivate human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and prevent the virus from invading human cells.

Scientists from the Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen report that these extracts represent a potential new class of anti-HIV-1 agents for the treatment of AIDS.

They demonstrated that root extracts of the medicinal plant Pelargonium sidoides (PS) contain compounds that attack HIV-1 particles and prevent virus replication.
