Telangana ministers complain to governor against chief minister

Andhra Pradesh cabinet ministers from the Telangana region Wednesday complained to the governor against the chief minister for divesting their colleague D. Sridhar Babu of the legislative affairs portfolio.

The ministers from Telangana said Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s decision was undemocratic and an insult to the people of Telangana. They also termed it as a part of the conspiracy to stall the formation of a separate Telangana state.

News reporter passes out during interview on live TV

KUTV reporter Brooke Graham passed out on live TV while conducting an interview.

The reporter was conducting an interview about cross-country skiing when she suddenly passed out and fell backwards into the snow in Utah, Metro.co.uk reported.

However, she woke up seconds later and continued the interview from the ground where she fell.

Though Graham later revealed that she was fine, the video of the incident has gone viral and has received over 100,000 views on YouTube. (ANI)

Anand Sharma expresses optimism for Indian economy in 2014

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma expressed optimism for the economy in 2014.

In a statement, Sharma said: “In 2013, India was rated as the most favoured investment destination globally. NSUI, Youth Congress activists protest near BJP chief Rajnath Singh’s house

Activists of the Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) were baton charged by Delhi Police on Wednesday, as they sought to undertake a protest march towards the official residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh.

Media reports said that between 40 to 50 Youth Congress and NSUI protesters were taken into custody and moved to the Parliament Street Police Station, as the demonstration took a turn for the worse.

Role of Kolkata police questionable in gang rape case: NCW

National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma on Wednesday expressed doubts over the role of Kolkata Police in the gang rape case and said had the police been alert, they could have prevented the second gang rape of the victim.

“The girl was gang raped once before going to the police station, and while returning, she was gang raped again. I don’t think the role of police is right in this case. If the police had been alert, then they could have prevented her from getting raped again,” said Sharma.

Six Indian tourists killed in jeep accident in Nepal

Six Indian tourists have been killed when a jeep carrying them plunged into a river in Nepal’s Tanahun district.

The incident occurred yesterday night when the jeep carrying 10 Indian tourists was heading for Kathmandu from tourist city Pokhara on the New Year’s Eve.

The vehicle fell into the Marsyangdi River near Chunpahara area in Bandipur village, 152 km from Kathmandu, at 11 pm (local time), according to the police.

Haryana CM announces power tariff cut, free travel for govt. school girls

The Government of Haryana has announced a rebate of 200 rupees on power bills every two months.

Chief Minister B.S. Hooda said that the ebate will be applicable only if a household’s consumption in two months is less than 1,600 units.

The state government also promised that power tariffs will not be increased in fiscal 2014-15.

These announcements were made by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

State Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed also said girl students of government schools will not be charged fare while travelling in Haryana Roadways buses from today.

46 stations to be part of real-time coastline monitoring: Antony

Devyani Khobragade’s UN application review still on, says US

The US is still reviewing the application for the transfer of senior Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade to UN and issue the necessary documents to her for full diplomatic immunity, a top American official said here.

“It is under review. We cannot predict when that review will be complete,” said a State Department spokesperson in response to a question on the status of the UN request to grant full diplomatic status to 39-year-old Khobragade.
