Myanmar denies Buddhist mob kills Muslim villagers

Myanmar’s government today denied that security forces and a Buddhist mob attacked Muslims in an isolated, strife-torn corner of the country this week.

A rights group said more than a dozen people may have been killed and that hundreds of people have fled their homes. The US and Britain called on the government to investigate and to hold those responsible accountable.

“We have had no information about killings,” Deputy Information Minister Ye Htut told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of Southeast Asian foreign ministers in Myanmar’s ancient city of Bagan.

Missing TCS employee’s burnt body is from Andhra, says family

The family of a 23-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, who has been missing since January 5, has claimed to have found her body in Bhandup, an eastern suburb of Mumbai.

The body, found in a marshy, secluded area off the Eastern Express Highway, and was charred beyond recognition, reports NDTV.

The family claimed a ring found on one of the fingers helped them identify her.

According to them, the woman boarded the Vishakhapatnam Express from Vijayawada at 7.30 a.m. on January 4 to return to Mumbai to resume work after a month-long Christmas break.

I will look into Kejriwal’s demand: Shinde

In the wake of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s threat to stage a sit-in in front of Home Ministry, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said he would look into his demands.

“I have asked my officers to examine their demands. Let us see. They are new in governance,” he told reporters here after a meeting with Kejriwal.

18 killed in Mumbai stampede

At least 18 people were killed in a stampede that broke out early Saturday near the Malabar Hill residence of Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, who died Friday morning, officials said.

According to police and BMC Disaster Control officials, the stampede took place around 1.30 a.m. as thousands of community mourners converged near Saifee Mahal, where the Syedna’s body was kept for people to pay their last respects.

Madina Public School remained closed on Friday also

Students and Staff of Madina Public Schools Nampally and Himayath Nagar did not attend the school yesterday also in view of the two day holiday declared by the management of these school. The officials of Wakf Board had reached the school at 7:30 a.m. to continue educational activity in these schools. Two days back, Mr. Shaik Mohammed Iqbal, Special Officer of Wakf Board had taken over the wakf properties under the direct control of Wakf Board. He had announced that the educational activities of these schools will not be stopped.

Dept. of Arabic of AV College, Gagan Mahel, in collaboration with the Dept. of Arabic P.G. College of Science, Saifabad is organizing a two day National Seminar on “Contribution of Hyderbad Deccan in the promotion of Arabic Language and Literature” on 29th and 30th January. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray promised villagers here today that the Jaitapur nuclear power project would be scrapped if his party comes to power after the forthcoming elections.

Modi condoles Syedna’s death, says it’s great loss for society

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of spiritual leader of Dawoodi Bohra community Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, saying his demise is a “great loss” to society.

“Saddened by demise of respected leader of Dawoodi Bohra community Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. His demise is a great loss for society,” Modi’s post on micro-blogging site Twitter said.

PCB should take ownership of UAE Stadiums: Waqar

Pakistan’s former captain Waqar Younis has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take more ownership of the cricket venues in the United Arab Emirates if they want the national team to produce better results in the region.

Waqar said on Friday that since it was now a known fact that Pakistan’s second cricket home was the UAE due to teams not touring Pakistan because of security reasons, it was time the board took more ownership of the cricket venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Madina Group gets relief from HC

Justice P. Chandra Kumar of A.P. High Court directed A.P. State Wakf Board not to interfere in the affairs of Madina Group of Institutions for 3 weeks in order to protect the interests of the students. However High Court maintain that the decision of Wakf Board to take these institutions under its control is valid.

It may be noted that Wakf Board had taken the control of Madina Institutions on Wednesday on receipt of many complaints of irregularities.

Naidu deplores lack of security to women

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu today said he always wanted poor women to come up financially and provide them financial independence.
Addressing DWCRA women’s groups, who came from Mahbubnagar district at NTR Trust Bhavan, party’s headquarters here, the TDP chief said there was no security for women in the country, particularly in Andhra Pradesh.
Condemning the rape incidents in Mumbai and Delhi, the former chief minister expressed his concern over a woman dancer of Mumbai being sexually assaulted after snatching her money in Hyderabad.

Legislative Affairs Minister Shailajanath on Friday strongly opposed the draft Telangana Bill saying it was against the spirit of democracy and Constitution of India.

The draft Telangana Bill was totally against the spirit of Telangana agrarian armed struggle and the principle of linguistic States. Court directs police to file case against Ashok Babu

Ranga Reddy district court today directed the Saroornagar police to register a case against APNGO president Ashok Babu for his alleged burning of copies of Telangana bill in Bhogi Mantalu on the day of Sankranti festival.
A lawyer Sukari Janardhan Reddy had approached the district court against Ashok Babu’s “anti-constitutional act” of burning of Telangana Bill signed by the President. Admitting the petition, the district judge directed the Saroornagar police to register a case against Ashok Babu and submit a report to the court by January 20. (NSS)
