NTR remembered on 18 th Death annivarsary

A large number of Telugu Desam Party activists, MLAs, admirers and family members paid rich tributes to TDP founder and former chief minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) on his 18th death anniversary here on Saturday.

Popularly called as NTR, the former chief minister was a most popular actor-turned-politician and one of the most popular leaders in the State’s history. The party leaders, admirers and his divided family members paid tributes to him at NTR Ghat on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake here on Saturday morning.

AP bags Oil & Gas Conservation award

Andhra Pradesh was adjudged as the best State for Oil and Gas Conservation in view of the performance by the A.P. Civil Supplies and other Departments.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily presented the award to Civil Supplies Commissioner Sunil Sharma in New Delhi. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy who was shown the award by the Commissioner, Civil Supplies at Camp Office today lauded the efforts of the Departments in conserving oil and gas and said Andhra Pradesh can take pride in bagging the award. OU’s MBA first Semester exams from Jan 24

The Osmania University has informed that the MBA I Semester examinations of OU will begin from 24th January.

House wife set ablaze for more dowry

A 28-year-old woman died of burn injuries that she suffered after she was set ablaze allegedly by her husband in the limits of Alwal police station.

According to the Inspector S V Hari Krishna, deceased Gunti Rama alias Pushpa (28) wife of Rajaiah occupation House wife resident of Ambedkar nagar of Alwal.

Deceased married with Rajaiah about 11 years back and they blessed two childrens.

CM clears Rs 6,500 investment proposals

SIPB meet under CM clears Rs 6,500 investment proposals Hyderabad, Jan 18 (INN): The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Krian Kumar Reddy today approved six major investment proposals with a total investment of Rs.6,500 crore with an employment potential for 18,500 people. Sailajanath condemns division of Telugu people

Legislative Affairs Minister S Sailajanath on Saturday alleged that the Telugu speaking people were being divided on regional lines for political gains.

Continuing his debate on the State Reorganisation Bill in the State Legislative Assembly, Sailajanath said that the living conditions of Telugu speaking improved only after the formation of Andhra Pradesh. He claimed that the people of Telangana, especially farmers, faced the attrocities of Nizam’s and landlords.

Speaker receives 9,025 amendments on Telangana Bill

Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Saturday informed the State Legislative Assembly that he was in receipt of 9,025 amendments and views on the draft State Reorganisation Bill.

Making an announcement in the House, the Speaker said that as the MLAs have submitted as many as 9,025 amendments and views in written form on the Telangana Bill. He also informed that the copies of the proposed amendments and views would be place on the official website of the Assembly from Monday onwards. (INN)

Legislative Council to continue T-debate on Sunday

The Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council will sit on Sunday to continue the debate on State Reorganisation Bill.

The Legislative Council session, which began here on Saturday, will continue the discussion on Telangana Bill. In regular practice, the Assembly and Council do not meet on Saturdays and Sundays. However, in view of January 23 deadline set by the President of India for the State Legislature to send its views on Telangana Bill, the Assembly worked on Saturday while the Council has decided to continue the debate on Sunday too. Shankar Rao wants Telangana to be named after Sonia

Former Minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Saturday condemned the opposition to State Reorganisation Bill by the Seemandhra legislators.

Participating in the debate in the State Legislative Assembly, Dr Shankar Rao said that the Telangana Bill was sent to Assembly by President of India Pranab Mukherjee only for views and seeking voting on the same was like challenging the authority of the President. Sonia visits Tharoor at his residence

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Saturday visited junior HRD Minister Shashi Tharoor’s house and condoled the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, party sources said.

Gandhi went to the Lodhi Estate residence of Tharoor and condoled his loss.

Pushkar was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her room at The Leela Palace hotel in south Delhi Friday. She was cremated Saturday evening.

US man gets 25 yrs after pleading guilty to sending poison-laced letters to Obama

A former U.S. martial arts instructor has pleaded guilty to sending poison-laced letters to President Barack Obama and other officials.

James Everett Dutschke would serve 25 years in prison after he reached a plea agreement with the prosecutors, the Washington Times reports.

Prosecutors said that the 42-year-old tried to frame Elvis impersonator Paul Kevin Curtis, who was initially charged in the investigation.

Dutschke has been jailed since April on charges of sending the letters to Obama, Republican U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, and a Mississippi judge. (ANI)

India, Pakistan agree to provide NDMA on reciprocal basis.

Commerce Ministers of India and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to provide Non-Discriminatory Market Access (NDMA) on reciprocal basis to each other. In a joint statement issued here after talks, Commerce Ministers Anand Sharma and Khurram Dastgir Khan said on the sidelines of the fifth SAARC Business Leaders Conclave that both countries have reaffirmed the commitment to expeditiously establish normal trading relations, and in this context, to provide Non-Discriminatory Market Access (NDMA) on a reciprocal basis.

18 killed in a stampede in Mumbai

At least 18 people were killed and several wounded in a stampede that broke out on Saturday near the residence of Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. According to T.V. reports, the stampede took place near the Malabar Hill residence of Dr. Burhanuddin, who died on Friday, as people had gathered to pay homage to the spiritual leader. The incident took place at around 1.30 a.m. and cause for the stampede is not yet ascertained. The bodies of those died in the stampede were taken to Saifee Hospital. Injured people have been taken for treatment.

Gold, silver up on revival of buying, global cues

Gold prices rebounded by Rs 210 to Rs 30,180 per ten grams in the national capital on Saturday following revival of buying by stockists for the marriage season coupled with a higher global trend.

Silver also recovered Rs 600 to Rs 45,200 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Traders said revival of buying by stockists for the marriage season and a higher global trend, after Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis said policy makers need to do more to stimulate the economy, mainly influenced the sentiment.

Doctors term Sunanda Tharoor’s death as unnatural and sudden

A post mortem was conducted on the body of Sunanda Tharoor, the wife of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor, on Saturday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). A medical board headed by Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta, Head of the Department for Forensic Medicine conducted the autopsy. , Dr. Adarsh Kumar, Assistant Professor of Forensic Medicine and Dr. Shashank Punia of the Department of Forensic Medicine were the other two who conducted the autopsy.

Mahindra to halt production for up to 3 days in January

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, India`s largest utility vehicle maker, said it would halt production for up to three days this month at its automotive factories to align output with sales requirements.

“The management does not envisage any adverse impact on availability of vehicles in the market due to adequacy of vehicle stocks to serve the market requirements,” the company said in a statement to the stock exchange on Saturday.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has apologised “profusely” over a homophobic slur he posted on Twitter.

Clarkson posted a photo on his Twitter account showing him sleeping next to a piece of paper with the offensive message “gay c—’’ written on it and an arrow pointing towards him, according to the Mirror.

The photo appears to have been taken on a plane but it’s not clear who took it. It does however show Clarke’s Top Gear co-host James May in the background.

Reliance Jio to offer voice services too, says official

The voice-dominated domestic telecom space is set to liven up further with corporate giant Reliance Industries, the only national licence holder for 4G spectrum, Friday saying it will be offering not just high speed data but voice services as well.

“We will definitely be offering voice … The fact that we have submitted the application for participating in the forthcoming 2G and 3G spectrum auctions makes it clear that we are going to enter the voice space,” Reliance Group Chief Financial Officer Alok Agarwal told reporters here.
