Du-ba-Du (Face-to-Face) Matrimonial program meeting

Minorities Development Forum of Siasat Urdu Daily will conduct a consultative meeting of the managing committee to finalize the arrangements in connection with Du-ba-Du (Face-to-Face) Matrimonial program to be held on 26th January at Sadia Function Palace and Rose Garden Function Hall, Sagar Road, Champapet.

The consultative meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. on 21st January at MDF office, Siasat Office Complex. All the members of the executive are requested to attend the meeting to finalize the arrangements.

VRO mock test at Siasat

Siasat Urdu Daily is conducting a mock test for the benefit of candidates appearing for Village Revenue Officer and Village Revenue Assistant tests. Today at 2 p.m. at Mahboob Husain Jigar Hall, Siasat Office Complex, opp. Ramakrishna Theater, Abids. Candidates can get model test paper and test material. Govt. is conducting this examination on 2nd February.

Teachers’ Eligibility Test will also be conducted by the Govt. on 9th February. The mock test will be useful to these candidates also.

Thousands of mourners attend funeral of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin

Thousands of mourners attended the funeral procession of 102-year-old Muslim spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, on Saturday. The procession started at Burhanuddin”s residence amid tight security arrangements. The body of the leader was placed in a casket draped with the Indian National Flag, escorted by policemen, family members and community heads. He is succeeded by his 70-year-old son. Earlier on Saturday, at least 18 people died when a stampede broke out amongst mourners. (ANI)

India, Pakistan to allow greater trade through land route

India and Pakistan have agreed to allow round-the-clock trade through the countries” Wagah-Attari border on Saturday. Trade ministers of the two countries meeting in New Delhi also approved a liberalised visa policy for businessmen to help expand two-way trade, which was barely $2.5 billion in 2012/13 fiscal year against a potential $10 billion. Both sides hope closer integration of India and Pakistan which would help lay the ground for a lowering of political tensions between them. .

AAP ready to work with like-minded parties in Andhra

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ready to work with like-minded parties like Lok Satta in Andhra Pradesh, party leader Prashant Bhushan said Saturday.

Bhushan, who inaugurated the AAP office here, also hinted that Lok Satta, led by former bureaucrat Jayaprakash Narayan, may merge with AAP.

He told reporters that there were discussions between the two parties in this regard but declined to comment further, saying it would be too early to say anything.

2014 polls: Congress expands election coordination panel

The Congress Saturday expanded its election coordination committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power Jyotiraditya Scindia and former Youth Congress chief Randeep Singh Surjewala are the new panel members, a party release said.

The committee already has eight members, including party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

Andhra clears Rs.6,500-crore investment proposals

Andhra Pradesh Saturday approved six major investment proposals involving a total investment of Rs.6,500 crore.

The proposals cleared by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) at its meeting, chaired by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, would employ 18,500 people.

The projects cleared include those of large multinational companies like PepsiCo, Cadbury, Colgate, Johnson & Johnson, Gerdau Steels and ITC, said a statement from the chief minister’s office.

Modi sets target to reach 10 crore homes

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Saturday set a target of reaching 10 crore homes for party workers for the party to win the Lok Sabha polls.

“Whoever gets 20 crore votes in Lok Sabha will form the government. If you reach 10 crore homes, we will win,” Modi told district chiefs and co-ordinators and caretakers appointed for the polls.

“A huge social group is ready to fulfill its role. Ask them how they can contribute. Try to strike an emotional chord with them,” Modi said.

Modi also said party workers should approach women, as they don’t watch news and are unaware.

Syrian opposition to attend Geneva II peace conference

Syria’s main opposition bloc announced here it would attend the Geneva II peace conference after it held a secret vote on its participation Saturday.

The Syrian National Coalition (SNC) said that 58 out of the 75 members voted in favour of the bloc’s presence at the peace talks, 14 voted against it, two abstained and one cast a blank ballot, Xinhua reported.

“This was the toughest decision. The absolute majority voted in favour of going to Geneva and being part of the sides on the negotiating table,” Louay Safi, a SNC spokesperson said during a press conference.

India win toss, opt to field in first ODI

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first in the first One-Day International here Sunday.

Karnataka police begins Bhatkal’s interrogation

City police today began interrogation of the Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal on his alleged involvement in the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium blast case.

“We have begun Bhatkal’s interrogation in Chinnaswamy stadium blast case and he will be in our custody till January 28,” City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told PTI.

Bhatkal, under judicial custody in Tihar Jail in connection with various terror attack cases, was brought to the city yesterday. “He was handed over to us by National Investigative Agency last night,” Auradkar said.

Karnataka High Court admits winding-up petition against KFA

A winding-up petition has been admitted in the Karnataka High Court against Vijay Mallya’s grounded carrier Kingfisher Airlines Limited.

Justice Ananda Byrareddy admitted the petition filed by a consortium of banks led by State Bank of India after he determined that the claim of the creditors that the company was commercially insolvent is bonafide and hence unable to pay off its dues.

Kingfisher Airlines has been sued in various courts for non-payment of dues to its creditors. The consortium of 17 banks have claimed an outstanding of over Rs 7,000 crore from the carrier.

AAP in support of Telangana, smaller states

Indicating that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is in favour of separate Telangana state, its senior leader Prashant Bhushan today said the outfit supported smaller states as it believes in decentralisation of power.

Bhushan also said the AAP was averse to having any pre-poll alliance with any political party.

He, however, said like-minded parties like Lok Satta in Andhra Pradesh, led by former bureaucrat Jayprakash Narayan, was welcome to AAP fold.

Smoke in AC coach of Howrah-Mysore Express causes panic

Smoke billowing out from under an AC coach of the Howrah-Mysore Express here this morning caused panic among passengers, Railway officials said.

However, no casualty was reported.

The smoke from the 3rd AC bogie was noticed when the superfast train was near Tuni station, about 120km from here in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari distract, they said.

Some train passengers and the guard noticed the smoke and authorities at Tuni were immediately alerted, Rajahmundry Station Master B V Sastry told a news agency.

After announcing that he would not contest coming Lok Sabha polls, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has said he would do so if his party asks him to but he won’t be in the race for the top post.

He said the coming elections would see a fight between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In separate interviews to news channels, Kejriwal, when asked whether he would contest Lok Sabha elections if the party asks him to do so, responded in the affirmative.

“If the need arises, then I will contest elections. Personally, I don’t want to contest elections,” he said.

Cong ticks off Aiyar for his teaboy remarks against Modi

Congress today ticked off party leader Manishanker Aiyar for his controversial remarks that the party would welcome Narendra Modi to sell tea at AICC meetings.

“The party does not approve of the statement,” Congress general secretary Ajay Maken, who is in charge of the media department, told PTI.

Aiyar had mocked Modi’s Prime Ministerial ambitions and said a place will be identified for the Gujarat Chief Minister to distribute tea here.
