Urdu exams of Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu today

Urdu Deeni Exam of Tailoring centre and adult education centre run by Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu Greater Hyderabad will be held on Tuesday, December 31 from 10 am to 12 pm at A Q Institute, Farooq Nagar.

Exam will be held under the direct supervision of president Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Farooq Nagar branch Sahibzada Mir Viqaruddin Ali Khan, vice president Syed Amjad Quadri and incharge centre Tarannum Fatima.

420 riot victims shifted from Muzaffarnagar camp to buildings

Facing flak over deaths of children at relief camps, the Uttar Pradesh Government today shifted 420 riot victims from Loee camp in the district to vacant buildings to protect them from severe cold wave sweeping the state.

At least 420 people have been shifted from Loee relief camp, the only functional camp in Muzaffarnagar district, while efforts are being made to move remaining 63 riot victims to vacant buildings in wake of severe cold, District Magistrate Koshal Raj Sharma said.

No goof up in Khobragade case: US

The US has rejected India’s contention that it has misconstrued salary details in the visa application of senior Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade’s domestic help, asserting there is “no goof up” and that the case against her is on a firm footing.

Making it clear that visa fraud charges against Khobragade will not be dropped, US sources here said, “The strength of the fraud in the case is very strong.”

S Mallamma, a house wife, aged 46 years committed suicide by hanging with tree near her residence in Addagutta, Lalaguda on Sunday night. She was the wife of Muthyalu.

Mallamma took the extreme step after she quarreled with her daughter’s mother in law on petty issue, Lalaguda police said.

Manmohan Singh to address press conference in the New Year

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address a press conference on Friday, his second and possibly the last during UPA-II.

Singh, who is criticised by some for not meeting the media, has decided to address the press conference at a time when his government is under severe attack on alleged policy paralysis and other issues and Congress is in distress.

The press conference, just months ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, will only be the second during Singh’s second term as the Prime Minister which began in May 2009 even though he has met five Editors and a group of TV Editors once each.

Woman dies after being stabbed, burnt

A woman died of injuries Tuesday after being stabbed and burnt by miscreants in Odisha’s Ganjam district who wanted her to stop running a fair price shop, police said.

Police have arrested four people and launched a hunt to nab another suspect.

According to police, the miscreants attacked Pranati Das, 30, at Rambha town, about 150 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, Monday evening when she was on her way home.

The attackers stabbed her and then set her afire after pouring kerosene on her. A few passersby took her to a hospital.

The US has said that violence in poll-bound Bangladesh is not acceptable, saying parties should intensify efforts to engage in constructive dialogue to hold free and fair elections on January 5.

Kejriwal sick, misses office Tuesday too

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not attend office Tuesday too as he is still unwell.

“Arvind still has fever and his diarrhoea continues. Now his blood pressure has also gone down,” said Vipin Mittal, Kejriwal’s family doctor.

“So I have advised him to take rest at home today (Tuesday),” added Mittal.

Himachal’s snowy peaks attract New Year revellers

All flyovers in Hyderabad to be shut for New Year’s Eve

Police have decided to close all flyovers and some key roads around Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad from Tuesday night till the early hours of Wednesday to prevent any untoward incident during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

All flyovers in Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates will be shut while the roads around Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of Hyderabad will also be out of bounds for traffic.

The PVN Expressway, which connects the city to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, will also be closed for vehicles.

Chilly New Year’s Eve in Delhi, rain likely

Delhi continued to be chilly on New Year’s Eve Tuesday, with the minimum temperature recorded at 4 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average. The weatherman has forecast light rain during the day.

“The day will remain cloudy with light rain expected,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Even though the temperature Tuesday was a little higher than Monday’s lowest of 2.4 degrees Celsius, some people were disappointed that it was going to be a chilly New Year’s Eve, while some were excited about it.

One arrested for attack on Indian student in Australia

The Indian consulate in Melbourne is in touch with police and kin of an Indian student who was attacked and is in coma in a hospital. One suspect has been arrested.

The Indian ministry of external affairs said Tuesday in New Delhi that its consulate is in touch with the hospital, the police and the brother of the attacked student, Manriajwinder Singh, 20.

Singh was with two friends when he was assaulted by a group of eight men and one woman over the weekend at Princess Bridge in Birrarung Marr park in Melbourne.
