Abid Ali Khan Educational Trust to hold exams on Jan 19

The institutes voluntarily working for promotion of Urdu language in Hyderabad Secunderabad and other districts of the state can collect the books published by the Abid Ali Khan Educational Trust for the preparation of Urdu Dani, Zaban Dani and Insha exams. Besides this vocational training in tailoring and mehendi design is also given. Free education can also be given at madrasas by collecting the books free of cost. No fee is required for the exam. Certificate will be given to successful candidates. The exams are conducted in collaboration with Idara-e-Adabiyat-e-Urdu.

‘Sonia Gandhi richer than Queen Elizabeth’

The report lists the Congress president as the 12th richest political leader in the world.

On their website, Huffington Post World has a report that claims Congress President Sonia Gandhi is placed No12 on the list of rich world leaders.

The report places Sonia Gandhi as richer than Elizabeth II, the Queen of England and Bashar Al-Assad, President of Syria.

In 2009 while filing her nomination for the Lok Sabha election, Gandhi, stated that she owns neither a car nor a house in India but she has an ancestral home in Italy valued at Rs18.02 lakhs.

Lady doctor injected herself to death
(Siasat News): A lady doctor who hailed from Bhatinda, Punjab took the extreme step of ending her life.

According to the police, the deceased Shailaja Sharma, 31, was pursuing her Post Graduation course and has been living in a rented house at Mahindra Hills. Last night she took the poisonous injection all by herself and ended her life.

A case has been registered and police is trying to trace her relatives to ascertain the motive behind the suicide.

Registration campaign for second-marriage begins today

The government has not fixed the last date for submission of applications for post matric scholarships given by the state governments so far. Despite that complaints are being received by some colleges regarding non-receipt of applications. Post matric students can still apply for scholarships. Colleges should also offer proper guidance to students and persuade students to submit applications so that students can avail the government schemes.

Second-hand memory cards pose identity theft risk, warn experts

Selling old memory cards on sites like eBay without proper deletion of previous data may lead to identity theft, security experts have warned.

Computer scientists from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia bought 140 second-hand memory cards from the online auction site and attempted to recover data on them including photos, videos, text messages, sensitive documents and home-made pornography.

At least seven killed in Gujarat road mishap

At least seven people were killed and several others injured after a vehicle carrying labourers collided with a truck on the Tarapur-Wataman Highway in Gujarat’s Anand District on Monday.

The victims, most of whom were tribals from Madhya Pradesh, had come to Gujarat in search of work. The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Doctor, Jayant Joshiyara, said severely injured victims have been shifted to another hospital.

Tarun Tejpal taken for sexual potency test

Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal was on Monday taken to Goa medical college for sexual potency test under the new rape law.

Meanwhile, Tejpal’s lawyer has filed an application to allow for a fan outside his cell.

A day after Goa court sent Tejpal to six-day police custody, the Goa police will on Monday resume the Tehelka editor-in-chief’s interrogation over charges of rape filed by a now former colleague.

Kannur bandh declared on today

A BJP worker was on Sunday hacked to death and two others were injured seriously in clashes with CPI(M) workers at Perumba near Payyanur town in the district, police said.

BJP has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Kannur district tomorrow to protest the attack on party activists.

Police identified the deceased as Vinod Kumar (28), who was also a local instructor of the RSS.

Clashes were sequel to alleged destruction of flags of CPI(M) youth wing DYFI by BJP workers yesterday, sources said.

The injured have been rushed to a hospital in Mangalore.

IT professional raped in resort; search on for culprits

A 40-year old woman IT professional from Bangalore was allegedly raped at a backwater island resort near here and police are on the lookout for two persons involved in the incident.

The woman had come to the star category resort at Pozhiyur, about 30 km from here, with a group of colleagues as part of an official trip and she was allegedly assaulted by two persons in the wee hours on November 28, police said.

According to her complaint with police, two unidentified persons entered her room at around 2.30 AM. While one of them restrained her, the other man raped her.

New York train derails killing four, 67 injured

At least four people were killed and 67 others injured, 11 of them seriously, as a passenger train derailed in New York City Sunday turning bogies on their sides and throwing passengers into the air.

Firefighters and emergency rescuers swarmed the scene near Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx, city’s northernmost borough, where at least two bogies were turned on their sides, CNN reported. One car was just feet away from the Harlem river.

Tejpal taken for sexual potency test

Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal, facing charges of sexually assaulting a woman journalist, was today taken to Goa Medical College Hospital for mandatory sexual potency test by the police.

Police sources said this was mandatory in a case of sexual assault.

50-year-old Tejpal was yesterday remanded in six-day police custody by a court here after which Crime Branch officials grilled him for over five hours.

The sources said later a court will hear whether he can be provided with a fan while in police custody.
