New York crashed train exceeded speed limit

The commuter train that derailed in New York City borough of Bronx early Sunday morning was travelling at a speed of nearly 82 mph (132 kph) while it entered a 30 mph (48 kph) curve, authorities said.

Two event recorders of the Metro-North train were read out at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) lab, adding that human error or a mechanical problem might be the likely cause of the crash, though no evidence showed that it was caused by sabotage, Xinhua quoted NTSB Board Member Earl Weener as saying.

BJP warns of violent stir over separate Vidarbha demand

BJP has threatened to take to the streets to launch their ‘final’ agitation over the demand for creation of separate Vidarbha, alleging that the ruling Congress was deliberately neglecting the statehood issue.

“Congress was apprehensive of losing power to NCP in the state in case Vidarbha is carved out of Maharashtra,” state BJP president Davendra Phadanvis said here.

“BJP will hit the road to continue its democratic fight if Congress does not concede to the demand,” he warned.

Egypt to get $122 mn from EU

The European Union (EU) has agreed to provide Egypt 90 million euros (over $122 million) in financial assistance.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton signed a financial agreement of 90 million euros, as Egypt’s deputy prime minister Ziad Bahaa El-Din met her recently in Brussels, the Belgian capital city, Egyptian news website Ahram Online reported.

Both sides discussed Egypt’s economic situation, and the EU’s assistance to the socio-economic sector and civil society.

Pleasant Tuesday in Delhi

Sensex down 49 pts in early trade on profit-booking

The BSE benchmark Sensex today fell by over 49 points in early trade as funds and retail investors booked profits after recent gains even as India’s current account gap narrowed sharply to USD 5.2 billion, or 1.2 per cent of GDP, in the July-September quarter of 2013-14.

The 30-share barometer, which had gained 477.75 points in the previous three sessions, moved down by 49.42 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 20,848.59, led by the weakness in banking, FMCG, realty and power sector stocks.

15,000 police on duty ahead of Babri Masjid demolition day

About 15,000 police have been deployed on security duty in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, ahead of Babri Masjid Demolition day falling on December 6, officials said.

The tight security would continue till Dec 7,they said.

Officials said 24 hour checkposts have been put up along highways and important roads. Coastal Marine Police and Coast Guard had also been asked to keep a close watch along the coast from Kanyakumari to Nagapattinam, they said.

NIA to produce two SIMI operatives in Patna court on Dec 5

A local court on Monday granted three-day transit remand of two SIMI operatives, including alleged mastermind of Bodhgaya temple blasts Umer Siddiqui, to NIA in connection with explosions at Narendra Modi’s rally at Patna in October in which five persons were killed.

They will be produced before a designated court of Patna on Thursday.

“The court of additional chief judicial magistrate Sangeeta Naveen Tiwari granted the transit remand of Siddiqui and Azharuddin Samshuddin Qureshi to NIA and they will be produced in Patna court on Dec 5,” City SP (Civil Lines) Rakesh Bhatt told PTI.

Cop injured after CRPF officer’s weapon goes off accidentally

A policeman was injured on Monday when the service weapon of a CRPF officer went off accidentally in Nishat area of the city along the banks of Dal Lake, police sources said.

Head Constable Nazir Ahmad, posted in the Security wing of state police, sustained bullet injuries in his arm and leg when the service weapon of Assistant Sub Inspector Satpal Singh went off “accidentally” at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre on the banks of the Lake, the sources said.

The injured cop was hospitalised where his condition was stated to be stable.

Yasin Malik, family thrown out of hotel in Delhi

Separatist JKLF on Monday alleged its chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and his family were forced to spend several hours on road in Delhi after they were forced to leave the hotel booked by them.

Yasin Malik and his family, including an 18-month-old daughter, went to Delhi Sunday and booked two rooms in a hotel near Nizam-ud-din, the JKLF said in a statement here.

However, they were asked to leave around midnight by the hotel management, it alleged.

Muslim should not forget Babri Masjid demolition – Maulana Naseeruddin
