Biotechnologist Zahoorullah in Marquis Who’s Who

American publisher Marquis has selected Hyderabad biotechnologist and scientist Zahoorullah Shaikh Mohammed’s biography for its publication Who’s Who in the World for year 2014. Zahoorullah Shaikh is 29 years old and is currently working as an assistant professor of biotechnology at Joginpally BR Engineering College. He resides at Aziz Bagh Colony in Tolichowki. Leonardo DiCaprio plans India visit?

If all goes as planned, Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, whose latest film “The Wolf of Wall Street” releases in India on Christmas day, may visit the country’s entertainment capital in the first month of the new year.

“His visit is likely to be a part of a different strategy, by way of which the “Titanic” star will meet some of India’s promising entrepreneurs,” a source from the film’s distribution team in India, told IANS.

“Leonardo sincerely believes that the character on whose life the film is based is a huge role model for the youth of today in terms of enterprising skills.

HC rejects Ramesh Sippy’s plea to stay Sholay’s 3D release

The Bombay High Court rejected Bollywood producer Ramesh Sippy’s plea seeking a stay on the release of Sholay’s 3D version made by his nephew Sasha over a copyright dispute.

In a notice of motion on his suit against Sasha and others, Sippy had recently filed an appeal before a division bench against the judgement of Justice Kathawala who had earlier rejected Sippy’s petition on the same issue.

Upholding the single bench’s judgement here today, a division bench of Justices S F Vajifdar and G S Patel refused to stay the production and release of the movie’s 3D version.

Dhoni named ODI team captain

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has found a place in both ICC Test team of the year as well as the ODI side of the year but surprisingly Virat Kohli, who has been a consistent run-getter in the 50-over format in the last one year, didn’t figure in the ODI team, announced here today.

ICC’s Chief Executive David Richardson said while Kohli was extremely unlucky to have missed out on in the LG ICC ODI Team of the year, led by compatriot Dhoni, but he should be making it next year.

Mars mission travels beyond SOI extending 9.25 lakh kms

India’s maiden mission to Mars has traversed beyond the sphere of influence (SOI) of Earth extending about 9,25,000 km in its 10-month long voyage to the red planet.

The spacecraft crossed the SOI of Earth at around 1:14 hrs (IST) today, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.

The Mars orbiter spacecraft had slung out of its earth-bound orbit in the early hours of December one during the critical 22-minute Trans Mars Injection, a manoeuvre billed as the “mother of all slingshots.”

Asaram’s son arrested in Surat sexual assault case

Self-styled godman Asaram’s son Narayan Sai, who had been evading arrest in a sexual assault case in Surat, has been nabbed by Crime Branch of Delhi Police.

“Narayan Sai has been arrested from Delhi-Haryana border. One of his aides Hanuman too has been arrested with him,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav told PTI today.

Delhi Police sources said he had disguised himself as a Sikh man to evade arrest.
In Ahmedabad, state DGP Pramod Kumar said that Sai had been absconding for more than 50 days.

Dikshit keeping fingers crossed for her toughest battle

Facing the toughest battle of her political career, three-time Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said she has kept her “fingers crossed” on the outcome of the election where ruling Congress, BJP and new entrant Aam Admi Party are locked in a keen tussle.

“I will keep my fingers crossed,” she said, refusing to show a victory sign when photographers at her residence requested for it.

When asked whether she was worried about AAP’s possible impact, Dikshit said “no”.

Man kills wife, cuts body into three pieces inThane

A 30-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her husband who chopped her body into three pieces inside their flat in Bhayander in the district.

The murder took place in the high-profile Golden Nest apartment in Bhayander yesterday and the accused – Girish Pote (29) — was arrested at night, Thane Rural Police said today.

Pote and his wife Madhuwanti used to have frequent quarrels over several issues, including financial matters, API Satish Shivarkar of the Navghar police station said.

Sonia Gandhi votes in Delhi Assembly election

Congress president Sonia Gandhi today cast her vote in the Delhi Assembly election in which her party is eyeing a fourth consecutive victory.

Gandhi was accompanied by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to the polling station in Nirman Bhavan at around 10 AM.

She is a voter in the New Delhi constituency from where Dikshit is contesting.

The other two prominent contestants in the constituency are Aam Admi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta.

Kejriwal voted at polling booth no 47 at Hanuman Road at around 8:15 AM.

Tarun Tejpal taken for second round of medical tests

Tehelka magazine editor Tarun Tejpal, arrested for sexually assaulting a woman colleague, was today taken for a second round of medical tests here.

Tejpal’s medical examination was earlier conducted on December 2 at Goa Medical College and Hospital. Various tests, including potency examination, was conducted on him.

“He has been taken again for further medical examination this morning,” a senior police officer said.

Tejpal would be subjected to various medical tests that are required as part of investigation, he added.

‘India-US partnership to grow without pause’

Describing India-US relationship as beyond bilateral a regional and a global relationship, a senior Obama administration official has said their strategic partnership would keep growing without a pause for India’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

GoM on Telangana to finalise report today

The Group of Ministers (GoM) on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh will hold its final meeting in the national capital on Wednesday to give final shape to its report, which is likely to be submitted to the Union Cabinet on Thursday.

The GoM headed by Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde met Tuesday but the meeting remained inconclusive. Shinde said they would meet again Wednesday.

PM has done injustice to Andhra: TDP chief

Accusing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of doing injustice to Andhra Pradesh, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday charged Congress party with ‘taking Telugu people for granted’.

“If you go through the last nine and half years, they have done injustice to Andhra Pradesh. They have neglected the state in railway budget, did not give adequate funds for national highways. Though we have demanded Rs 60,000 crore for cyclone-affected Andhra Pradesh, only Rs. 4,000 crores have been given” Naidu told a press conference here.

Class XI girl commits suicide in school

A Class XI student of Jacobpura Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on the school premises after being teased by a neighbour on Tuesday, police said.

The accused, Ravinder, sneaked into the school premises and teased her in front of others, leading her to consume poison. She was rushed to the civil hospital, then taken to a private hospital where she died.

Teachers and other students nabbed Ravinder and handed him over to police.

Order on Zakia Jafri’s plea posted for Dec 26

The court of metropolitan magistrate posted the order on the plea of Zakia Jafri, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in 2002 post-Gujarat riots, for December 26.

She is contesting against the closure report of SIT which gave a clean chit to the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the riots.

After arguments for over five months, the pronouncement of order was earlier deferred on November 28 for December 2.

Ehsan Jafri and 68 other people were killed during in the Gulbarg society massacre during the 2002 post-Godhra riots.

Absconding Narayan Sai arrested from Punjab border

In a major breakthrough, the Gujarat and Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s absconding son Narayan Sai from the Punjab border where he was hiding with his close aides.

According to initial reports, Sai was arrested in a joint operation by the Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi Police. He has been taken to Delhi for interrogation.

Sai, who has been on the run for the past 58 days, has been arrested on charges of sexual assault.
