Rayala Telangana issue: Protesting OU students attack cops

Tension prevailed on the Osmania University (OU) campus here when pro-Telangana students attacked security personnel with stones prompting them to lob tear gas shells, after the protesters were prevented from taking out a rally from the varsity. The protesting students wanted to take out a procession from the OU campus as part of the bandh call given by TRS to oppose the proposal of Rayala Telangana. However, police stopped them near NCC gate on the campus, police said.

Bruce Jenner lands movie role

TV presenter Kris Jenner’s estranged husband and former American athlete Bruce Jenner will reportedly be seen in upcoming movie “The Hungover Games”.

The movie is a spoof of three hit films – “The Hunger Games”, “The Hangover” and “Ted”.

In the film, Bruce will play one of the futuristic “Hunger Games” play-by-play announcers alongside Kendra Wilkinson’s husband, Hank Baskett, reports tmz.com.

Telangana Bandh against Rayala-Telangana successful

On the call given by TRS for Telangana Bandh against the proposal of formation of Rayala-Telangana, bandh was observed in Telangana area which was peaceful. BJP, CPI, New Democracy, Telangana Political JAC and other organizations supported the bandh. Attendance was less in Govt. offices. Rallies were taken out in various districts of Telangana against the formation of Rayala-Telangana. Some Telangana leaders were arrested and released later in the evening.

India’s Sankirtana in UNESCO’s list of intangible heritage

The Sankirtana — ritual singing, drumming and dancing of Manipur — along with Bangladesh’s Jamdani weaving and traditional Japanese Washoku cooking methods was among 14 new entries added to UNESCO’s list of “intangible heritage” in need of being preserved.

The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage, holding its 8th session until December 7 in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, last night inscribed 14 elements on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Gujarat drops in educational development index

Manipur went up from 24 to the 9th place and Mizoram from 19th to 10th place.

Despite Chief Minister Narendra Modi singing paeans about his state’s development model, Gujarat has slipped from ninth position to 18th in a latest educational index even as Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have retained their ranks.

According to the District Information System for Education (DISE) flash report prepared by National University of Education Planning and Administration (NEUPA), Gujarat has slipped from 12th to 28th position in the primary level and from 8th to 14th rank in the upper primary level.

US teacher killed in Libya

Unidentified men killed a US citizen who was working as a teacher at an international school in Libya’s Benghazi city Thursday, security officials said.

The US expatriate was killed in the morning, as he was jogging on Venice Street near the headquarters of the US consulate, which had been attacked last year, Xinhua reported citing a security official Ibrahim Sharaa .

The victim was identified as Ronnie Smith, a Texan, born in 1980. He taught chemistry at the city’s international school, a Libyan-owned institute that follows an American curriculum.

Afghanistan launches plan to develop key route

The Afghan government Thursday announced to expand the main highway, linking capital city of Kabul to the northern provinces, as part of the government’s plan to promote economic growth and reduce poverty.

Woman dies due to doctors negligence

A 31-year-old pregnant woman died allegedly due to the negligence of doctors of a private hospital.

According to Langar Houz police, the deceased, Firdous Begum, a resident of Nadeem Colony in Tolichowki, was admitted to a private hospital when got labour pains on November 30. The duty doctors attending her informed her that the child already died in the womb.

On December 2, Firdaus was referred to another private hospital as her health deteriorated. On Wednesday, she was referred to the Osmania General Hospital where Firdaus died a few hours after admission.

Norwegian police say they have charged 73 people with child pornography offenses in a nationwide crackdown on an alleged pedophile network.

The National Criminal Investigation Service said today it had staged a series of raids targeting individuals suspected of exchanging videos and images online of children suffering “severe sexual abuse.”

Police said the raids yesterday targeted suspects living with children and suspects with previous child abuse convictions.

Agriculturist arrested for raping B.Com student

An agriculturist was arrested on Thursday on the charges of raping a student by promising to marry her.

A 20-year B Com student, in her complaint, alleged that the accused, K Venkatesh, 22, of Kondurg, raped her several times on the promise of marrying her. Based on the complaint, a case was registered against Venkatesh and he was arrested on Thursday from Kondurg village of Mahaboobnagar District. Amberpet police said.
