India’s junior men’s hockey team head coach Gregg Clark today said the upcoming FIH Junior World Cup could be a stepping stone for the country to regain its lost glory and added that long-term planning is the only way out to consistently get good results.

Sharia Council meeting today

Mr. Mahmood elected President of Wakf movement

In a meeting of All India Wakf Protection Committee, New Delhi, the General Secretary of Movement for Education and Economic Telangana (MEET) was elected president of All India Wakf Protection Movement. The meeting was held at Basti Hazrath Nizamuddin in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of Mr. Zaidi. Representative of various States who are struggling for the protection of Wakf properties attended the meeting. Mr. Mahmood presented a status report about the wakf properties in A.P.

Prisoners facing Life Sentence may be released soon

It is understood that 390 prisoners who are undergoing life imprisonment may be released on the occasion of Republic Day next year. Govt. of A.P. issued G.O. no 230 in September giving the guidelines for the release of such prisoners. This file is awaiting C.M.’s approval. It is reported that such of the prisoners who have attained 65 years of age and have completed 7 years of imprisonment and those whose character is good during their imprisonment extending 10-14 years may also be released. It is reported that Govt. will provide the opportunity to lead a peaceful life after their release.

State Cabinet to meet on 3rd December

It is expected that GoM will submit its report to Central Cabinet on 4th December. A.P. State Cabinet is considering to meet on 3rd December to review Telangana issue. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, C.M. of A.P. is strongly opposing the formation of Telangana. It is also expected that Central Cabinet will approve this proposal and send it to State Assembly on 10th December for its consideration. It is understood that Central Ministers of Seema Andhra and State Congress leaders have softened their stand in respect of Telangana. Telangana Ministers might persuade the C.M.

Suspected Hezbollah members cleared of Nigeria terror charges

Three Lebanese nationals suspected of being Hezbollah members were cleared of terrorism charges in Nigeria today but one of the accused was convicted of a weapons offence and jailed for life.

Mustapha Fawaz, Abdallah Thahini and Talal Ahmad Roda were arrested in May after the discovery of an arms cache in a residence in the northern Nigerian city of Kano.

They were accused of plotting attacks against Western and Israeli targets in Nigeria but denied the accusations.

Ready for Junior World Cup: India captain Manpreet

Indian captain Manpreet Singh today said they are confident of putting up a good show against a tough Holland side in their FIH Junior Hockey World Cup opener.

“Our preparation has been good. We are confident of performing well against Holland. The match will be crucial,” Manpreet told reporters here.

India are in pool C with the Netherlands, South Korea, Canada. Pool A features Germany, Pakistan, Belgium and Egypt while Australia, Spain, Argentina and France are in pool B. England, New Zealand, South Africa and Malaysia make up group D.

No need to fence Indo-Nepal border: SSB

Indo-Nepal border as the frontier is a friendly crossing between the two countries, the chief of border guarding SSB today said.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General Arun Chaudhary, during a conference held here to commemorate 50 years of the raising of the force said, there was “no threat emanating from the people of Nepal” and hence this measure was not required.

Father of Asaram’s aide files missing complaint about his son

The family of an aide of controversial godman Asaram Bapu has approached the police saying that the youth was missing since yesterday.

Lukcy Chourasia (26), who lived at Asaram’s Ashram in Ahmedabad until recently, was receiving phone calls from the Ashram asking him to return, according to the complaint filed by his father Ramsevak Chourasia here.

However, soon after the missing complaint was lodged, Lucky rang up his mother and told her that he had left the house on his own but did not reveal his whereabouts, police said.

Karzai threatens to drop pact with US

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that he will not sign the military pact with the US if it continues actions such as this week’s NATO drone strike resulting in civilian casualties.

A Taliban commander and an eight-year-old boy died and two women were wounded Thursday by a drone attack in the southern province of Helmand, Afghan government spokesman Umar Zwak told the Pajhwok news agency.

“For as long as such arbitrary acts and oppression of foreign forces continue, the security agreement with the United States will not be signed,” Karzai said in a statement posted on his website.

41 killed in violent attacks in Iraq

At least 41 people were killed and 22 others wounded in the latest wave of violent attacks across Iraq, police said Friday.

In the capital city of Baghdad, a total of 18 people were killed and 22 others were injured in bombing and shooting attacks, Xinhua reported citing a police source.

In the deadliest attack, five people were killed and nine others wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near a popular football playground in the Radwaniya area of southwestern Baghdad, the source said.

No anticipatory bail to wife of former AP CM in dowry case

A local court today refused anticipatory bail to T Manemma, MLA and wife of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, the late Tangutoori Anjaiah, in dowry harassment case filed by the estranged wife of her grandson.

Ramyashree, the wife of Manemma’s grandson Vinaykumar Reddy, filed the complaint of harassment for dowry against her husband and seven others in June this year, said Prabhakar, Circle Inspector of Women Police Station in Karimnagar town.

Ramyashree and Vinaykumar married in 2007.

According to the complaint, Ramyashree’s in-laws were seeking additional dowry of Rs 10 lakh.

Man gets 7 years in jail for attempting to rape daughter

A local court today sentenced a middle-aged man to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment on the charge of attempting to rape his 12-year-old daughter.

According to the police, the accused, a cook by profession, took his daughter to a lodge in Narayanguda area on November 21, 2012 and tried to rape her while in an inebriated condition, according to the police.

Spanish child rapist, killer freed under rights ruling

A Spanish court today ordered the immediate release of a man who raped and killed three children, cutting his prison time by 10 years in line with a European human rights ruling.

The killer, Miguel Ricart, was the latest convict to benefit from an October 21 ruling by the Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights.

The Strasbourg court said Spain had acted illegally by retroactively cutting short the years of remission that an ETA prisoner had earned from good behaviour.

Opposition calls fresh 72-hour blockade across Bangladesh

Opposition parties in Bangladesh today called for a 72-hour nationwide blockade from tomorrow to push for the postponement of the general election, even as 16 of its activists, including two top leaders, were charged for a deadly arson attack on a bus.

Police filed a case against 16 BNP leaders, including the party’s acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in connection with yesterday’s arson attack on the bus during a 71-hour protest in which two persons were killed and 16 others injured.

Krishna water sharing: Tribunal increases Andhra’s share

The Krishna Water Tribunal today gave its final award allotting four thousand million cubic (TMC) of water from Karnataka’s share to Andhra Pradesh and allowing the former to increase the storage in Almatti dam to 524.256 meters.

In its final award today, which came almost three years after the interim award was announced, the tribunal sought to maintain a balancing act by giving four TMC of Karnataka water to Andhra Pradesh and at the same time recognising Karnataka’s right to claim the remaining water before competing authority.

Congress government is for the rich, says Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi, prime ministerial candidate of the BJP, addressing a rally in Rajasthan Friday accused the Congress of being a government for the rich, and said it preferred doling out grains to liquor manufactures rather than to the poor.

Modi was addressing a gathering at Rawan Ka Chabutara ground in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district, some 350 km from state capital Jaipur.

Jodhpur is the home district of the state’s Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Congress’ focus on vote bank politics, not development: Modi

Accusing the Congress of being busy with vote bank politics, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Friday said if the party had followed the development agenda, things would have been much different in the country.

“It is not that development cannot happen. But except vote bank politics, Congress does not want to do anything,” Modi said at an election rally at Rajasthan’s Pokhran, some 470 km from Jaipur, two days before the state goes to assembly polls on Dec 1.

China sends warplanes into new air defence zone amid tensions

China has dispatched fighter jets to a newly declared air defence zone over the East China Sea as a “defensive measure”, after the US, Japan and South Korea all sent their military planes through the airspace in defiance of Beijing’s unilateral move.

Several fighter jets and an early warning aircraft from the People’s Liberation Army Air Force conducted normal air patrols in East China Sea Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Thursday, a spokesman for the air force has said.

Can’t afford slow decisions if we want to develop faster: Prez

President Pranab Mukherjee today said a “slow decision” making process is not acceptable if we want our country to develop faster but also underlined that he did not advocate taking hasty decisions.

“If we want our country to develop faster, we cannot afford to be slow in taking decisions. I am not saying that decisions have to be taken in a haste.

“But to prolong or avoid taking decisions is not acceptable. Informed decisions based on facts, figures and realistic assessment to the best of one’s ability are sine qua non for good governance,” Mukherjee said.

Sonia Gandhi India’s most inspiring woman politician: Survey

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been voted as India’s most inspiring female political leader who has been able to strike a perfect balance between her career and family life, according to a survey.

In the survey held by matrimonial service portal Shaadi.Com, 36.2% people voted for Sonia Gandhi, while BJP leader Sushma Swaraj was a close second with 33.6 per cent votes.

A release from Shaadi.Com said today that the survey was to understand which successful Indian women was admired for striking a perfect balance between career and family life.

Advani lauds Vardhan for pulse polio campaign

Senior BJP leader L K Advani today heaped praise on his party’s Delhi Chief Ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan- around whom the main opposition has built its poll campaign- for running a successful pulse polio campaign in 1994 when he was Health Minister of the state.

In his latest blog posting, Advani lauds Vardhan’s initiative in launching the pulse polio programme in Delhi.

Advani also quotes Microsoft founder Bill Gates who has praised Vardhan, a doctor by profession, for his achievement.

He later wrote the foreword of a book written by Vardhan on the issue.
