EC to keep watch on 630 critical booths through webcasting

In a first, the Delhi Chief Electoral Office will keep a “live watch” on 630 critical booths through web-casting to deter people from indulging in any nuisance on the polling day.

Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed and central paramilitary force personnel along with micro observers will be present inside the critical polling stations.

Italian Marines case won’t be resolved by Christmas: Envoy

The case of the two Italian Marines facing trial in India for murder will not be resolved by Christmas, Rome’s envoy in the case has said.

Marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone were arrested for the killing of two Indian fisherman off the coast of Kerala in February last year. They are currently on bail pending trial and are living and working at the Italian embassy in New Delhi.

“It won’t be possible to resolve this question by Christmas, as was our hope,” diplomat Staffan De Mistura told Italy’s Radio 1.

BJP ‘settling scores’ with Tejpal: Faleiro

Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, accused of rape, Saturday found support from former union minister Eduardo Faleiro, whose daughter Sonia was once employed as an editor at the investigative news weekly.

In a statement released to the media Saturday, Faleiro, a Congressman, accused the BJP and the Goa government of harassing Tejpal and “settling scores” with him.

“We should condemn the misuse of Goa Police by the present government in the case of Tarun Tejpal, the founding editor of Tehelka,” the former minister of state for external affairs said.

Rouhani says Iran will not dismantle nuke facilities in bid to reach agreement with world powers

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said he will not dismantle any of its nuclear facilities to reach a long-term agreement with the world powers to limit its nuclear development.

In an interview, Rouhani said that dismantling Iran’s nuclear facilities was a “red line,” CNN reports.

The statement came less than a week after Iran and the P5+1 nations reached an interim six-month deal last weekend to limit Tehran’s nuclear development.

The world leaders want a long-term guarantee that Iran won’t produce nuclear weapons .

Nawaz Sharif leaves for Kabul on day-long visit

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday left on a day-long visit to Kabul where he will hold talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai to firm up the peace process with the Taliban in the war-torn country.

It will be Sharif’s first visit to Afghanistan since he came into power in May.

He would hold talks with Karzai and members of High Peace Council on bilateral relations and the peace process following withdrawal of the US-led coalition forces from Afghanistan.

Passenger dies by heart attack at airport
(Siasat News): In a bizarre incident, a passenger died at Shamshabad airport when he suffered a massive heart attack.

According to the details, the passenger Durgadas Mishra, 50, reached Hyderabad from Bangalore by Jet airways. He was there at the airport premises to look for a ride to Raipur.

Just then he suffered a massive heart attack and died on the spot. Shamshabad RGI police has registered a case and investigations are on to trace his relatives.

UK man fined for breaking bed, curtain rail while having sex in old flat

A man has been charged with criminal damage after he went to his former flat to have sex and broke the bed, curtain rails and window sill.

Adam Disney of Solihull, who still had a key to his former home, used his empty flat to have sex with his female companion, the Mirror reported.

Neighbors called the cops at about 10.45 am after they heard noises.

Disney, who appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, was originally charged to burglary with intent to cause damage but the charge was changed to criminal damage .

Raheel Sharif takes over Pakistan Army chief

Three feared dead after police helicopter crashes into Glasgow pub

At least three people have been feared dead after a police helicopter crashed into Clutha Vaults bar in Glasgow that was hosting a live music event.

The police helicopter carrying two police officers and a civilian when it crashed into the pub just before 10.30 at night causing multiple injuries.

Government signs peace agreement with the NDFB

The government has signed a six month peace deal with the northeast militant outfit, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Assam on Friday.

“The agreement is a little stricter than the agreement signed earlier with the other groups. Based on our experience we have made it stringent and they will be moving into the camps as and when the camps are ready,” said Joint Secretary (Northeast) in the Home Ministry, Shambhu Singh.

No compromise on food subsidy programme

Commerce and Industries Minister Anand Sharma has said he will not compromise on food subsidies for the poor, at the World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting to be held in Bali, Indonesia, next week, but left open the possibility of an interim subsidy deal designed to salvage a trillion-dollar trade pact.

The meeting is to be held from December 3.

Anand Sharma, who will be leading the delegation to Indonesia, said the G-33 group of developing countries supported the stance on the country’s food subsidy programme.

Tehelka magazine founder editor Tarun Tejpal on Saturday confirmed that he has joined an investigation started by Goa Police in connection with the sexual assault case filed against him.

Speaking to media outside the Crime Branch headquarters of Goa Police in the Dona Paula area of Panaji this morning, Tejpal said: “From the very beginning, I had said that we would cooperate in the investigation with the police. And because of that, I reached here after being issued a summons by the police.”

Hearing on Tejpal’s anticipatory bail plea resumes

The hearing on Tarun Tejpal’s anticipatory bail petition today resumed in a District and Sessions court here.

Tejpal’s lawyer Geeta Luthra continued her arguments before judge Anuja Prabhudesai, who had yesterday given the Tehelka editor interim protection till this morning against arrest in the case of alleged sexual assault on a woman journalist in the magazine.
The public prosecutor will later submit arguments.

Ahead of hearing on his bail petition, Tejpal visited the Crime Branch office here this morning and said he was cooperating in the investigation.

I am not required to attend court: Tejpal

I am not required to attend court and I have already “joined the investigation” as was expected of me, Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal told reporters here after a brief visit to the Crime Branch office Saturday.

Tejpal, who was grilled for two hours Friday, was called to Goa Police unit Crime Branch office near Panaji again Saturday for questioning.

“I am not required to attend court. I was required to join the investigation and I have joined the investigation,” Tejpal said in a brief comment outside the office before leaving in a car.
