Congress has lost people’s trust: Narendra Modi

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Saturday criticised the Congress government in Delhi, saying the party has lost people’s trust and that was why none of its leaders was campaigning here.

“This government has lost the trust of people and that is why its leaders are not coming here to campaign. They know they can’t fool the people of Delhi with fake promises,” Modi said in his address to a rally in east Delhi’s Shahdara area.

Around 15,000 people had gathered to hear Modi speak, a party official said.

Global crude oil price of Indian basket increases

The international crude oil price of Indian Basket as per information provided by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has indicated that it has marginally gone up to USD 109.68/per barrel (bbl) as of Thursday.
On Wednesday, it was pegged at USD 109.46/bbl.

In rupee terms, crude oil prices also increased marginally to Rs.6842.94 per bbl on Thursday as compared to Rs.6825.93 /bbl on Wednesday.

This was due to the increase in price in dollar terms and rupee depreciation.

Most men consider spouses to be more attractive than them

Most men consider that their better half is more attractive than them, it has been revealed.

According to a survey by lookalikes site Celebalike.com, sixty percent of men claimed to be having a more attractive wife or girlfriend than them, the Daily Express reported.

Meanwhile only 25 percent of women thought their partner was better looking.

The men prefer it that way because it boosts their self-esteem.

A third of men said they enjoyed making other guys envious, while a fifth thought having an attractive partner made them more appealing to other women. (ANI)

Indian Mars Orbiter readies to leave earth

India’s Orbiter to Mars prepares to part with mother earth soon after Saturday midnight and begin its long journey to the distant red planet coasting through the cosmos for almost 10 months, a scientist said Friday.

“The Orbiter is steadily climbing towards its last apogee (farthest from earth) pass in the early hours (04.06 a.m.) Saturday and sling into the sun’s orbit at 01.12 a.m. Sunday after we fire its liquid engine at 12.49 a.m.for the trans-Mars injection,” a senior space scientist told IANS.

AP to move Supreme Court against Krishna Water Tribunal award

Andhra Pradesh would approach the Supreme Court against a tribunal’s final award on sharing of river Krishna waters and seek “justice” for the State, a Minister said today.

Talking to media persons here, Minister for Secondary Education K Parthasarathi said the Government of Andhra Pradesh would definitely approach the Supreme Court to seek “justice” for the State on Krishna Water Tribunal award, which has evoked sharp criticism from Opposition parties here.

He, however, did not say when the State will approach the apex court.

China to launch Chang’e-3 lunar probe Monday

China will launch the Chang’e-3 lunar probe Monday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre, the mission’s launch headquarters said here Saturday.

This will be the first time China is sending a spacecraft to soft-land on the surface of an extra-terrestrial body and conduct surveys on the moon, reports Xinhua.

Facilities at the launch site are in good condition and preparations for the launch are going well, according to officials.

Pakistan PM in Kabul

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Kabul Saturday on a one-day visit at the invitation of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

During his stay in Kabul, Sharif will meet Karzai and leaders of the High Peace Council to exchange views on bilateral relations with particular reference to the release of Taliban leaders from Pakistani prisons and accelerating the Afghan peace process, officials said.

Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani and Kabul Mayor Mohammad Yunas Nawandish received Prime Minister Sharif at the Kabul International Airport, reports Xinhua.

Complaint to police over Tehelka journalist’s name leak

Hasiba Amin, president of the Goa unit of the NSUI, has submitted a complaint to police saying activist Madhu Kishwar leaked the name of the woman journalist who accused Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal of sexual assault.

National Students Union of India (NSUI) leader Amin, however, said police were not interested in registering her complaint or taking action against the activist.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that match-fixing can never be eradicated completely.

President Pranab Mukherjee Saturday said there was an urgent need to “salvage the declining standards of the country’s higher education” if India wanted to become a world power.

Hoping to teach medicine without MBBS degree

Authorities at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the Bihar capital are shocked that over 90 percent of applicants for teachers’ posts at the institute did not have the mandatory MBBS degree, an official said Saturday.

The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree is the first professional degree awarded on graduation from a medical school.

“It was unusual and unique; scores of unqualified youth applied for teaching posts, including that of senior and junior residents at AIIMS-Patna,” AIIMS-Patna Director G.K. Singh said.

Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Saturday asserted that the Telangana Bill would be introduced in the ensuing winter session of the Parliament.

28 injuries on body of BSP leader’s maid: Post-mortem report

A total of 28 injuries were found on the body of the maid of BSP MP Dhananjay Singh who died due to alleged torture by his wife, the postmortem report says.

The report reveals that the deceased, Rakhi, had 28 injuries all over her body, including nine on her head, besides a congested haemorrhage in the right front and rear side of the thyroid.

Car bomb kills four in Iraq’s capital

At least four people were killed on Saturday in a car bomb near a bus stop in south of Baghdad.

The bomb exploded while the commuters were waiting at the bus stop in the morning hours. Seven people are expected to have wounded in the incident. On the condition of anonymity, the staff of the nearby hospital confirmed the causality figures.

Dating app ‘Twine’ picks matches based on personalities over pictures

A new unique smartphone dating application lets users browse matches based on common interests and not on how they look.

The dating service, Twine, blurs users’ faces so that he can chat and get to know the other person by remaining anonymous, the New York Daily News reported.

However, people can eventually choose to reveal pictures when they’re comfortable and ready to make a connection.

The app works by syncing users’ Facebook contacts and selecting conversation partners who are nearby and have common interests, without revealing pictures of either side of the match.

Tejpal leaves Goa Crime Branch headquarters after two hours of questioning

Tehelka magazine founder editor Tarun Tejpal left the crime branch headquarters of Goa Police in the Dona Paula area of Panaji on Friday after over two hours of questioning over his role in a sexual harassment case.

Earlier, Tejpal refused to entertain any questions from the media.

He only said: “I’ll talk to you guys soon . I am joining the investigation.”

Earlier, he was given interim bail by a Sessions Court here, after the latter decided to extend the hearing of his case till 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The Goa Sessions Court on Saturday adjourned the hearing on Tarun Tejpal’s bail application till 4:30 p.m.

Earlier, the hearing of Tehelka magazine editor Tarun Tejpal’s anticipatory bail petition resumed at the District and Sessions Court.
