Katiyar backs Gill’s ‘Modi can’t be blamed for post-Godhra riots’ opinion

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinay Katiyar on Friday said former Punjab DGP K P S Gill’s reputation as an officer has been very good, and added that he is absolutely correct in saying that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi cannot be blamed for the post-Godhra riots.

“KPS Gill has been a very learned officer and his reputation has been good. I think whatever he has written about Modi and the post-Godhra riots might be correct,” he said.

Katiyar, however, refused to comment further on the matter, saying he had not yet read Gill’s book.

Biden admits Obama and him not ‘tech geeks’

United States Vice President Joe Biden has apologized for the unsuccessful launch of the Obamacare enrollment site, saying that President Barack Obama and him are not “technology geeks.”

In an interview with HLN, Biden said that while he was not aware of the reasons for the flawed website, the administration is confident that it will be ready by the end of November and people will get plenty of time to register, Politico reports.

Biden said he thought that the site was up and ready to run, although he didn’t try to get online himself.

Nawaz says peace talks with Pak Taliban underway

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said dialogue with Taliban has started and hoped that it will progress within the constitutional framework.

The comments from Sharif came as he spoke to British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and discussed issues of mutual interest.

According to the Daily Times, Sharif apprised Clegg on the dialogue with Taliban, relations with India, energy situation and economic reforms agenda of his government, a press release from the Pakistan’s High Commission said.

Pakistan ranked in bottom tier of ‘least prosperous’ free countries

Pakistan has been ranked 132 in a total of 142 countries in the global prosperity index by Legatum Institute.

The Legatum Prosperity Index that assesses global wealth and wellbeing, in its 2013 report has ranked Pakistan near the bottom of the least prosperous countries based on parameters like economy, education, entrepreneurship and opportunity, governance, health, personal freedom , safety and security and social capital.

According to the Express Tribune, Pakistan is facing stagnation in terms of prosperity even as the global propensity has risen over the past five years.

A new research has suggested that gravitational unloading significantly accelerates biological aging.

Experiments conducted on the International Space Station involving cells that line the inner surfaces of blood vessels (endothelial cells) show that microgravity accelerates cardiovascular disease and the biological aging of these cells.

‘Painful’ pinpricks may soon be history for diabetics

Researchers have said that they are one step closer to developing an oral treatment for diabetes.

According to scientists at the University of Tokyo, they have developed a compound they named AdipoRon, which is capable of mimicking the effects of the hormone, News.com.au reported.

According to Toshimasa Yamauchi, a member of the research team and lecturer at the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Tokyo, AdipoRon could become “a lead compound” in a possible oral treatment for diabetes .

“The comments that he (Rahul Gandhi) made was shocking. Why are the army officers reporting to him? So, the Election Commission has done a very correct thing by issuing a notice to him, and he cannot be let free for his remarks,” he said.

(Siasat News): A civil student committed suicide in Chikadpally. Police sources said that the deceased Vinod Kumar, 27, was the son of one Shankar of Jawahar Nagar, took the extreme step of ending his life by hanging in his house.

Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft unite to rein in US surveillance programmes

Tech giants Yahoo, Facebook, Google, Apple and Microsoft have united against US government’s snooping programme .

The tech companies have called upon the Senate Judiciary Committee to substantially reform National Security Agency’s mass surveillance practices.

According to CNET, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo, Facebook, and AOL wrote a letter to the lead members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, urging the lawmakers to substantially reform the NSA surveillance practices.

The companies also asked for additional oversight and accountability mechanisms for the spying programs.

2 security officers of Narendra Modi killed in road mishap

Two security personnel of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi were today killed and five others injured when a speeding truck rammed into their vehicle during wee hours, police said.

The deceased personnel, Bhailal (30) and Jairam (30), were in the bomb disposal squad vehicle of the Gujarat Police had taken a halt near Nathgram Ashram on Malkhanpur road under Sirsaganj area, when a speeding truck rammed into their vehicle, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said.

The team of security personnel was on their way to Patna.

Saudi Arabia denies grace period extension for illegal foreigners in country

Saudi Arabia has denied reports that the grace period for foreigners staying illegally in the kingdom to regularize their situation will be extended.

Social networks in the country had posted claims that illegal foreigners would be given extra months to put their official documents in order.

According to Gulf News, the labour ministry said that there would be no extension and the interior ministry warned that there would be no leniency and that it would take stringent measures against violators.

Sensex hits new record high of 21,293.88, up 129.36 pts

The BSE benchmark Sensex today hit a life-time high of 21,293.88 by gaining over 129 points in opening trade on sustained foreign fund inflows in banking, auto, metal and realty sectors.

Rising for the fourth straight session, the Sensex rose 129.36 points, or 0.61 per cent, to trade at record high of 21,293.88 points, surpassing previous intra-day record high of 21,206.77 reached on January 10, 2008. It had rallied 594.24 points in the past three sessions.
