KPS Gill’s statement on 2002 riots has no relevance: Sharad Yadav

Janata Dal-United (JDU) chief Sharad Yadav on Friday said former Punjab DGP KPS Gill’s statement giving a clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots has no relevance.

“His statement has no relevance, someone must have told him to give such a statement,” he said.

Giving a clean chit to Modi, Gill earlier in the days said the 2002 riots were a total failure of the police and not political leadership.

“I have written in my book that it was a total police failure and not failure of police leadership,” he said.

SC adjourns hearing on AP bifurcation petitions to Nov 18

The Supreme court on Friday adjourned the hearing to November 18 on the petitions filed against the UPA Government’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.

As many as four petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court by YSRCP leader DA Somayajulu, TDP leader Payyavula Keshav and others. In their petitions, they described the Centre’s decision as arbitrary and unconstitutional and sought directions to stall the process of division of Andhra Pradesh.

Srinivasan, Jagan appears before CBI Court

Indian Cements Managing Director N Srinivasan on Friday appeared before the CBI Court in connection with the Disproportionate Assets case of YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The main accused, Jagan Mohan Reddy, Jagathi Publications vice-chairman Vijaysai Reddy and other accused in the case also appeared before the court. After the personal appearances of the accused, Second Additional Special Judge for CBI Cases MV Ramesh adjourned the next hearing to December 3.

CM prays to “Telugu Talli” for united Andhra Pradesh

Reiterating that he was strongly in favour of united Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday prayed to Telugu Talli that the AP Formation Day should continue to be celebrated in future.

Police foil TPJAC’s bid to host black flag

The pro-Telangana leaders were prevented by the Hyderabad Police from hoisting black flags to mark the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day on Friday.

TPJAC chairman Prof M Kondadaram and other leaders, who gathered at the Gun Park near Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial, were prevented by the police when they tried to hoist black flags to observe “Telangana Betrayal Day”. Following objection by the police, they hoisted the TPJAC flag.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inducted six new faces in his Council of Ministers at a ceremony held here on Friday on the auspicious day of ‘Dhanteras’.

The new ministers took oath at a ceremony here today in presence of Gujarat Governor Dr. Kamla Beniwal, the Chief Minister, and several other senior party leaders.

The expansion is being seen as an attempt by the BJP leadership to strengthen the party’s prospects in Gujarat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

There were earlier seven Cabinet Ministers and nine Ministers of State in Modi’s Council of Ministers.

Sibal challenges Modi to debate

Law Minister Kapil Sibal Friday challenged the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to a public debate and said the Gujarat chief minister doesn’t have any vision for the country.

“What is his (Modi’s) vision on education and foreign policy. He has no vision. His constant refrain is that the Congress party has destroyed India. Rid the country of Congress,” Sibal told reporters here.

Apple backed tech consortium sues Google and Samsung over patent infringement

A consortium that owns thousands of patents from the Nortel bankruptcy auction has sued Google and other manufacturers for patent infringement.

Rockstar, which is owned jointly by Apple, Blackberry, Ericsson, Microsoft, and Sony, filed suit in US District Court in Texas.

According to the Verge, the consortium has also alleged infringement by Asus, HTC, Huawei, LG, Pantech, Samsung and ZTE.

Sony cuts profit outlook after Q2 net loss

Sony Corp. has reportedly cut its full-year profit outlook by 40 percent after its fiscal second quarter net loss.

Sony’s net loss widened to 19.3 billion yen due to a loss in its movie business, AllThingsD reports.

According to the report, the Japanese electronics giant said that its net loss was 15.5 billion yen a year earlier and market analysts had projected a net profit of 12.08 billion yen for the quarter.

Pakistan urges India to resume composite dialogue

Pakistan has urged India to resume the composite dialogue for resolution of all outstanding issues, including the Kashmir dispute.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry Thursday said: “Pakistan wants resolution of Kashmir dispute through dialogue.”

Pakistan believes that third-party mediation can also be productive in this regard, Chaudhry was quoted as saying by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Pakistan is focusing on establishing cease-fire on the Line of Control, the spokesperson said.

Sibal pulls up PHEKU MODI, says ‘one can’t run a country on lies’

CBI registers case against JD(U) MP over fraudulent LTC claims

CBI has registered a case against Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Sahani for alleged filing of fraudulent Leave Travel Concession claims using forged air tickets and boarding passes and carried out searches today at Rajya Sabha Secretariat and other locations.

CBI sources said that, after registering an FIR, agency teams today carried out searches at Rajya Sabha Secretariat, his Muzaffarpur residence in Bihar and at his office here.

Sharif hopes for Taliban talks within constitution

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he hopes the dialogue with the Taliban will progress within the constitutional framework of Pakistan.

Sharif Thursday said that dialogue with the Taliban has started, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

According to a press release issued by the Pakistan high commission here, Sharif apprised Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg on the dialogue with the Taliban, relations with India, the energy situation and the economic reforms agenda of his government.

Snoring during pregnancy increases risk of delivering smaller babies

A new research has found that expecting women, who snore at least three nights a week, are at higher risk of having C-sections and delivering smaller babies than those who don’t.

According to the study, conducted in the University of Michigan Health System, chronic snorers or moms who snored before and during pregnancy are two thirds more likely to have a baby that’s born below the tenth percentile for babies of the same gestational age compared to non-snorers.

Chronic snorers are also more than twice as likely to need an elective C-section, researchers found.

10-year-old Chinese boy jumps 30 floors to death on ‘orders of teacher’

A 10-year-old boy in China jumped to death reportedly on the order s of his teacher after failing to write a self-criticism letter.

The fifth-grade primary school student had been ordered to write a 1000-character apology by his teacher for talking in class.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the teacher allegedly told him to jump out of a building after he failed to complete the task.

After jumping from the 30th floor, the child smashed into a parked car beneath the flat where his family live.
