Punj counters Sibal, says ‘BJP doesn’t take non-serious players of Congress seriously’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Balbir Punj on Friday hit back at Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal for challenging his party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to a debate, and said the opposition does not take challenges put by non-serious players of the Congress seriously.

Punj said Sibal’s challenge is a non-serious offer because only Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son party’s Vice-President Rahul Gandhi are of importance in the ruling party.

‘It will be difficult for Congress to survive’: Modi

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday charged the ruling Congress Party of making false promises to the nation to stay in power.

“Those who make false promises have no right to stay in power. They had promised to control prices in 100 days – did prices come down? They went up,” said Modi, while addressing a rally here.

“Those who went back on their promises must be taught a lesson,” he added.
Modi said the winds of change are blowing across India, and added that it will be difficult for the Congress to survive.

Pass marks enough for minority students to get scholarship

The Uttarakhand government today extended scholarship to all minority community students who secure pass marks, removing the earlier criterion of 50 per cent marks for availing the benefits.

All students from the minority community will now get a scholarship, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said, presiding
over a review meeting of the Minority Welfare Department here.

Over 1.60 lakh students will benefit from this measure, Bahuguna said, adding Rs 12 crore will be provided to meet the

India ranks lower than Bangladesh in world prosperity index

India has scored lower than Bangladesh in Legatum Prosperity Index that assessed global wealth and well being in 142 countries.

According to the LPI report, India dropped 15 places in overall prosperity and in the personal freedom sub index, scored100th, due to a drop in the tolerance of immigrants and a drop in civic choice variables.
