Husband suspects wife’s character, kills her

Murders of two women, one of them recently married, by their husbands were reported from Akola and Buldana districts.

Reshma Ingle (20), who had got married on September 13, was allegedly killed by her husband Santosh at village Belgaon
in Mehkar tehsil of Buldana district on Friday.

He suspected her of infidelity. Police have arrested him.

The second incident was reported at village Palsobadhe near here, in Akola district.

Aasha, the victim, was brutally beaten up by her husband Gajanan Chavan, as he suspected her character, police said.

RSS didn’t dictate Modi’s name as PM candidate of BJP: Vaidya

Contradicting reports that it had dictated Narendra Modi’s name as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, RSS leader M G Vaidya said a proposal from BJP quarters must have come and the Sangh gave its consent.

He said RSS does not dictate as to who should be made Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Minister, MP or MLA but only
gives its advice whenever there is a dispute and gives advice only when sought.

The RSS leader also contradicted reports that RSS had given any promise in 1949 of not entering politics when the
ban on it was revoked.

Religious minority in India decides political majority: Aiyar

Political parties in India seek minority support because they cannot form a government without them, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has said.

It is the religious minority in India that decides who gets the political majority,” he said while speaking in
Sharjah yesterday at the Sir Syed Day, commemorating the 196th anniversary of the founder of Aligarh Muslim University.

This is evident in burqas being distributed to give the impression that Muslim women are attending their rallies,
Aiyar said, without naming any party.

Youth arrested with intoxicant capsules in Jammu

A youth has been arrested with intoxicant capsules here, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted one Vinod Kumar at Digiana Pulli in the city last evening and arrested him
with 86 intoxicant capsules, they said, adding that the drugs were meant to be sold among addicted youths.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and further investigation is going on to ascertain the
source, they said.

Case registered for threatening woman traffic warden

A case has been registered under some sections of the IPC against a man who verbally abused a woman traffic police warden at a traffic junction here after threatening and hitting her, police said today.

According to the complaint lodged by the warden, the driver of the car came twice to the place where she was
managing traffic this afternoon and hurled abuses at her.

He came out of the vehicle, pulled her shirt out and hit her, saying he was “DCC President and will not allow her
to continue,” police said.

4 killed, 30 injured as vehicle falls from bridge

Four persons were killed and 30 injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell off a bridge near Subhanpur village on Jalandhar-Amrtisar national highway near here today, police said.

The deceased have been identified as driver Balraj Singh (55), Balbir Jirdi (52), Pritam Dass (50) and Sukhwinder Kumar
(32), all residents of Jalandhar district.

The passengers were going to Dera Beas near Amritsar when the accident occurred.

All the injured have been admitted to Dera Beas hospital.

Mohamed Elibiary tweeted he considered the United States of America as an Islamic country with a Muslim-compliant constitution, the Washington Times reports.

The controversial statement came in response to a query by a Twitter user asking Elibiary to give him just one example of an Islamic country where non-Muslims are treated with equality.

Iran criticises Iraq for increasing crude exports

Iran’s Oil Minister says Iraq has increased its crude oil exports to compensate for a fall in Iranian exports as a result of sanctions over Tehran’s suspected nuclear programme, calling the policy “not friendly at all.”

Bijan Namdar Zanganeh is quoted by the semiofficial Mehr news agency today as saying that Iraq’s oil policies are to
Iran’s detriment.

Iran’s oil exports are believed to have fallen from about 2.5 million to over 1.2 million barrels a day as a result of a
Western oil embargo against Iran over Tehran’s uranium enrichment programme.

License holder, MD held for explosion at firecracker unit

The licence holder and managing director of a private fireworks unit at nearby Olukacheri where a cracker explosion killed nine persons have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, police said.

Dhanalakshmi, the licence holder, and her son Krishnamoorthy, the managing director of the unit, were
arrested under various sections of the Explosives Act and produced today before a court here. They have been remanded to
15-day judicial custody.

The woman was held this morning and her son yesterday evening, they said.

Police have got definite leads in the case relating to the damaging the bust of P Krishna Pillai, founder leader of Communist Movement in Kerala and torching of his memorial in Alapuzha district on October 31, a top official today said.

The accused would be arrested in a day or two, IGP K Padmakumar, the investigating officer in the case, told
reporters here after a meeting of police officers.

Police have got specific information in the case and within a day or two the accused would be arrested”, he said.

‘PM will take a call on attending CHOGM’: Salman Khurshid

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will decide as to whether he would participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting ( CHOGM) scheduled to be held in Colombo later this month.

US manufacturing growth improves in October

The US manufacturing sector expanded in October for the fifth consecutive month and growth picked up pace from the previous month, a leading industry survey showed Friday.

The US Institute of Supply Management (ISM) said the manufacturing index, also known as the purchasing managers index (PMI), edged up from 56.2 percent in September to 56.4 in October, reported Xinhua.

A reading above 50 percent indicates the sector is generally expanding while a reading below 50 percent indicates contraction.

A Russian shepherd survived a cliff fall after he got engaged in a fist fight with bear.

The 80-year old shepherd, Yusuf Alchagirov, was confronted by the bear, which lifted him off the ground and then sent him flying off a cliff, in the region of Kabardino-Balkaria , Metro.co.uk reported.
