China slams killing of Mehsud in US drone strike

Criticising US drone strikes on militant targets in Pakistan that killed Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud, China today said Pakistan should be allowed to work out its own strategy to counter terrorism as per its “national conditions”.

China believes that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan should be respected in earnest manner
and relevant action should strictly abide by the UN charter on international law and conflict,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said without directly referring to US drone strike that killed Mehsud last week.

HC upholds lifer to husband, two others for killing wife

The Bombay High Court has upheld the life term awarded to a 27-year-old businessman, Parvez Sheikh, for killing his wife by giving her poison with the help of his family members.

The high court also found Parvez’s sister Shabana Shaikh and mother Khairunisa Pyoarejan Shaikh guilty of administering poison to the victim and upheld the life sentence awarded to them by the trial court.

The trial court, however, had acquitted the trio from the charges of subjecting the victim to cruelty under section 498 A of the IPC. This too was upheld by the high court.

School teacher killed in road mishap

A school teacher was killed on the spot when the motorcycle he was driving rammed into an electric pole in Assam’s Nalbari district today, the police said.

Sushil Sarma, an assistant teacher of Amiyapur LP School, died on the spot at Terechiya village of the district.

The 49-year-old teacher is survived by his wife and a child.

Family of Tarique (Patna blasts accused) refuses to take body

The body of Ainul alias Tarique, prime suspect in the serial blasts on October 27, was today handed over to a social organisation for burial after his family refused to take it and perform the last rites.

We have handed over the body of Tarique to a social organisation (Anjuman Rafay Ummat) for performing last rites
under police supervision,” Patna Rail Superintendent of Police Upendra Kumar Sinha said.

The decision to handover Tarique’s body to the social organisation was taken after the expiry of the mandatory 72
hours for family members to turn up and claim the body.

Musharraf granted bail in Lal Masjid murder case

Former military dictator Pervez Musharraf has been reportedly granted bail by a court in Islamabad, in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi in a 2007 military raid, freeing him of the fourth and last pending case against him.

The judges ordered Musharraf to submit two bonds each worth 100,000 rupees as surety for bail, making him free to move within the country, however, he would still require government’s approval to leave Pakistan.

Director-actor Amol Palekar says that he will go for the second Test between India and West Indies at Wankhede on November 14 because he is a huge cricket fan.

“I will go to Wankhede, not because Sachin is playing his last match but I am a great cricket buff and I love the nuances of not only Tests, but also Ranji matches,” he told reporters here.

Sale of 5-kg LPG cylinders allowed at pumps across nation

After the success of pilot programmes in five metro cities, Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily today allowed the sale of 5-kg cooking gas (LPG) cylinders at petrol pumps across the country.

The scheme, launched on October 5, allowed petrol pumps owned and operated by oil companies in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru to sell the 5-kg cylinders. Company owned and operated outlets make up for 3 per cent of the 47,000 petrol pumps in the country.

Now, Moily has permitted the sale of these smaller cylinders at all petrol pumps across the country, official sources said.

Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, is renting her childhood home for 25,000 pounds a night.

According to the posh Conde Nast Traveller magazine, the Althorp estate , where Diana is buried on a tiny island in the Oval Lake, can also be rented for a week and a five-course dinner costs 300 pounds per head extra, the Mirror reported.

For a further 10,000 pounds, meal can be served in the ornate grand picture gallery that can seat 200 people for dinner.

Sisters allegedly raped by two men

Two sisters were allegedly raped by in a village in Bihar’s Banka district, a police officer said on Monday.

The sisters, aged 15 and 17 respectively, had gone to attend nature’s call in a field in Asado village last night where they were allegedly raped by two men, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Headquarters, B K Das said.

After the girls did not return home, the kins launched a search for them this morning and found two of them lying unconscious in the field, he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today admitted there is a Narendra Modi effect on the BJP cadres but said to call it a wave in the country for its Prime Ministerial candidate would be an “exaggeration”.

“It would be wrong on our part to deny any influence of Modi in the elections–I cannot say there is Modi wave–there is effect of Modi,” Omar told reporters here.

Musharraf gets bail in mosque raid case

A Pakistani court Monday granted bail to former president Pervez Musharraf in the case pertaining to the military raid on the militant-affiliated Islamabad Red Mosque during his rule in 2007, which led to the death of nearly 90 religious students, lawyers said.

Musharraf was formally arrested in the case last month after the son of the deputy of the mosque, Abdul Rashid Ghazi, who was killed in the military operation, filed a case against him.

10,000 Sri Lankan migrants return on Saudi amnesty

As many as 10,000 Sri Lankan migrant workers have returned home on an amnesty provided by the Saudi Arabian government while efforts are being made to bring home some 6,000 others who failed to meet the deadline, an official said here Monday.

The amnesty period offered by the Saudi Arabian government for overstaying foreigners, mostly unskilled workers, ended Sunday.

• 250 g Ladyfingers (chopped)
• 1 Onion (chopped)
• 1 stalk of Curry Leaves
• 3 tbsp grated Coconut
• ½ tbsp Coriander (chopped)

• 1 tbsp broken Cashew Nuts
• 5 whole Red Chilies
• 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
• 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
• 1 tsp Urad Dal
• ¾ cup Curd (beaten)
• ¼ Red Chili (crushed)
• ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
• Salt (to taste)
• 2 tbsp Oil

How to make

Grind coconut and cashews together.

Heat oil in a pan and deep fry ladyfingers until crusty. Drain and keep aside.

Pakistan parliament moves to bring ISI under civilian control

In a bid to bring Pakistan’s powerful ISI under civilian control, the Senate has recommended an effective role of Parliament in monitoring it while giving the spy agency power to arrest and detain.

A report unanimously adopted by the Standing Committee on Human Rights was presented in the house last Wednesday and was endorsed by the Senate. The Committee had taken note of enforced disappearances a year ago and had formed a sub-committee to look into it.

Digvijay Singh accuses TDP of double-speak

AICC General Secretary Digvijay has accused the Telugu Desam Party of double speak on the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

“When the Antony Committee was formed, the same TDP gave a statement saying that it won’t give representation to a party-appointed committee. Now when we have a government committee has been appointed, the TDP has gone back on its words,” he told reporters here on Monday. “Now the TDP is also getting infected with the disease of double speak,” he alleged.

Lemon Mushroom

Ingredients

1 tablespoon cooking Oil
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon ginger paste
½ teaspoon cornflower
1 bowl (100 gms) button Mushrooms diced
1 teaspoon Chilli flakes
Seasoning – Lemon grass
Salt to Taste
1 fresh lime juice

Method:
Pour just 1 table oil into a frying pan. (You can use even lesser oil or spray the oil to the wok, but simmer the flame so that the ingredients don`t stick)
Sautee the garlic and ginger paste lightly and add the mushrooms. Add the mushrooms and toss them.

Indian troops arrive in China for joint military exercises

Indian and Chinese armies are all set to hold their third joint military exercises after a gap of five years, as a 150-strong Indian army contingent today arrived in Chengdu city to take part in anti-terrorism drills.

The 10-day drill code named “hand in hand” would be formally inaugurated tomorrow at a designated area close to Chengdu city.

The annual exercises, which began in 2007, are being resumed after a gap of five years.The first exercises were held in China’s Kunming city followed by the second round at Belgaum in Karanataka in 2008.

Ingredients:

Mince Mutton 300 Gms
1 Onion
1 inch cube Ginger
1 Teaspoon Garlic paste
1 teaspoon curd
½ cup coarsely chopped Coriander leaves
5 – 6 Green chillies
1 teaspoon chilli powder to taste
Freshly crushed Black pepper
Salt to taste
Oil

Method:

Chop together green chillies, onions and ginger.
Add the minced mutton and chop in a Mixer grinder, add rest of the ingredients and let it chop till the mixture is not lumpy.
Don’t add any water.
Greases palms with a little oil, make small balls with the mixture

UPA brought fundamental reset in Indian foreign policy: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday said the UPA government has sought to bring about a “fundamental reset” in India’s foreign policy in the past nine years based on national priorities and the country’s “role and destiny in world affairs”.

Addressing the inauguration of a four-day conclave of Indian heads of missions, he also praised Indian envoys for undertaking their tasks “with modest resources and often in difficult and dangerous circumstances”.

Nanosensors can be placed in body for a year to examine nitric oxide molecules

In an attempt to measure nitric oxide molecules, which carry messages within the brain and coordinate immune system functions, researchers have created a nanosensor that can monitor it in living animals for more than a year.

Michael Strano, the Carbon P. Dubbs Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT, said that nitric oxide has contradictory roles in cancer progression, and they need new tools in order to better understand it.

Strano said that the study provides a new tool for measuring the important molecule, and potentially others, in the body itself and in real time.
