A new study has found that both genders reported “sexual harassment via the Internet” as the most frequent form of abuse. This form of sexual abuse was experienced by roughly 28 percent of girls over the course of their lifetimes and by almost 10 percent of boys.

Centre to hold all-party meet on Telangana

The Central Government will conduct an all-party meeting in the first week of next month on the Telangana issue.

According to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, the meeting would discuss various provisions of terms of reference of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana. All political parties from the State would be invited for the meeting which is likely to be held before November 7, the day when GoM is scheduled to meet for the third time since its formation.

Five huge cannons recovered from Blackbeard’s sunken ship

Five big cannons have been discovered from infamous pirate Blackbeard off the coast of North Carolina.

Scientists from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources recovered the cannons from the Queen Anne’s Revenge on Monday nearly 300 years after its death, the CNN reported.

The team, working with the Coast Guard, brought the big guns, 2,000 and 3,000 pounds, to the surface of Beaufort Inlet.

According to the expedition manager, the largest cannon is like Swedish-made, as was another of the 40 big guns onboard that was already recovered.

`Rare` Roman eagle sculpture unearthed in London

A Roman sculpture of an eagle clasping a snake has been discovered by archaeologists at a London building site.

According to experts, the sculpture, which was found in the City of London during a dig at a building site, is the finest sculpture by a Romano-British artist, Sky News reported.

The sculpture, made from oolitic limestone sourced from the Cotswolds, dates from the first or second century AD.

Archaeologists, who also unearthed the foundations of a mausoleum during the dig, believe that the stone eagle once adorned the structure.

Thieves rape maid in Delhi

A maid was Wednesday raped and beaten up by two men when she resisted their theft bid in her employer’s home, police said.

“The victim belonging to Assam was raped by two thieves in the Hari Nagar area of west Delhi Wednesday afternoon,” said a police officer.

The maid, 19, was alone when three thieves entered the house.

Seeing them, she started shouting. One of the thieves then pointed a knife while two others raped her. They then took valuables valued Rs.50,000 and fled from the scene.

Police said the victim later told her employer about the assault and theft.

Traces of Third Front as 14 parties oppose communalism

Traces of a Third Front emerged Wednesday in time for the 2014 general election as 14 parties from across India shared a dais here and vowed to combat the threat of communalism.

The gathering, convened by Left parties, brought together Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav as well as representatives of the AIADMK, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Girl gangraped by members of wedding party

A speech and hearing impaired teenaged girl was allegedly gangraped by the relatives of her newly-wed aunt after the wedding reception at Baduria in North 24-Parganas district, police said today.

“The girl was gangraped by the youths after the wedding reception was over last night. She was spotted moaning later,” Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee said.

Four of the culprits were arrested today, he said.

‘Police clears Musharraf in death of Lal Masjid cleric’

Pakistani police have cleared former military ruler Pervez Musharraf of any direct involvement in the death of a cleric of the radical Lal Masjid during a 2007 military operation, according to a media report today.

Musharraf was not named as one of the main accused in a police report after a joint investigation team completed its probe into the killing of cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi and his mother, Express News channel reported.

Egypt detains senior Muslim Brotherhood leader

Egypt has arrested a key figure in the Muslim Brotherhood after months on the run.

Egypt’s Interior Ministry said Essam el-Erian, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood’s political arm, the Freedom and Justice party, was apprehended in the early hours Wednesday in an apartment in an eastern Cairo suburb.

According to Dawn News, El-Erian is one of the few senior Brotherhood figures still on the run.

el-Erian was among the group’s more moderate figures but turned hard-line and went into hiding after Egypt’s military ousted President Mohamed Morsi, the report said.
