Govt convenes all-party meeting on Telangana

An all-party meeting will be held next week to discuss various issues concerning the creation of separate Telangana, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Wednesday.

The meeting is likely to be held before the November 7 meeting of the Group of Ministers, constituted to look into the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, he said.

Talking to reporters, he said, “The meeting will discuss various provisions of the terms of reference of the GoM and give suggestions.”

The Silicon Valley home where Apple co-founder Steve Jobs built some of his first computers has been added on the city’s list of historic properties. The historical commission in the city of Los Altos voted unanimously for the historic designation. According to stuff.co.nz, the home, where Jobs and his foster parents moved in 1968, is owned by Jobs’ sister, Patricia Jobs. The commission did not need her permission for the designation, although she could appeal it to the City Council.

Former cricketer Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has threatened to choke NATO supply routes to Afghanistan, in case the federal government fails to announce a schedule of talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) by November 7.

PTI is planning to mount pressure on the centre to compel the U.S. to shut down its drone strikes in the tribal regions of Pakistan, the Express Tribune reports.

Nokia has reported a net loss of 125 million dollars in the third-quarter as revenue plunged more than 20 percent to 7.6 billion dollars.

The struggling company said that it sold 8.8 million Lumia smartphones, a 40 percent increase from three million a year earlier, but gave a negative outlook for its devices and services operations that it is selling to Microsoft Corporation, News.com.au reports.

However, the company said that it expects a positive operating margin of 12 percent at its solutions and networks unit.

3 Kenyan soldiers arrested for looting Nairobi mall during last month’s siege

Three Kenyan soldiers have been arrested for looting the Nairobi’s Westgate shopping mall during the deadly four-day siege by the al Qaeda-linked militant outfit al-Shabaab last month.

The army chief General Julius Karangi revealed that the investigation found out three soldiers with stolen property. While two have been jailed and dismissed, one is still under investigation, he said.

One member of a fire brigade was caught with mobile phones and cameras, while other was caught stealing an abandoned car from the mall”s parking lot, News.com.au reports.

`Wolverine` screenwriter roped in to improve `Fifty Shades of Grey` script

‘Wolverine’ screenwriter Mark Bomback has been brought in to work for the screenwriting team in the film adaptation of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

According to The Wrap, the 42-year-old screenwriter has been hired to improve Kelly Marcel’s draft, Metro.co.uk reported.

Bomback has previously worked on films like ‘Unstoppable’, ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘Live Free or Die Hard’, and is now the latest addition to the team after Patrick Marber. (ANI)

The cable news network, Al Jazeera America, has announced a major expansion plan, despite reports of low viewership initially.

Qatar-based network said it will be opening more U.S. bureaus, hiring more staff and creating more original programming, the New York Daily News reports.

The programming will include a morning news program, weekly sports program, weekly culture show and multiple new documentary series, with a renewed emphasis on investigative reporting, the report added.

David Raymundo Vazquez Ucan was ceremoniously terminated after he got involved in sexual acts with a woman in broad daylight in the back of an official police vehicle, all while his partner sat in the truck and waited for the act to finish, the New York Daily News reported.
