A United States drone strike reportedly killed three suspected militants in Miramshah Bazaar in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday night.

Official intelligence sources revealed that three other people were also injured when the drone fired two missiles on a compound in Zafar Town area, and the number of casualties is likely to increase, Dawn News reports.

BlackBerry racked up to 20 million new BBM users during its debut week on iOS and Android phones.

Taken together with those who use the service on BlackBerry smartphones, the company said BBM now has 80 million monthly active users.

According to the Wall Street Journal, BlackBerry had recently introduced its messenger service, BBM, for third-party platforms.

SC reduces political pressure on bureaucrats

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the central and state governments to pass orders within three months on giving fixed tenures to civil servants.

In its order, the apex court said that fixed tenures for bureaucrats will promote professionalism, efficiency and good governance.

The Supreme Court also directed the Parliament to enact a law to regulate transfer, posting and disciplinary action of IAS officers and to immunise them from political interference. (ANI)

Fodder scam: Jharkhand High Court rejects Lalu Yadav’s bail plea

The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is serving a five-year prison sentence in connection with the multi-crore fodder scam case.

The 66-year-old Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief had moved the court on Wednesday, but the latter chose to reserve its order for Thursday after hearing the CBI counsel’s objections to granting Lalu bail.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday condemned the fresh violence in Muzaffarnagar, saying this is the result of vote-bank politics of the Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh Government.

“The situation arising in and around Muzaffarnagar is very worrisome. We appeal that government must immediately take action so as to prevent further flare-up,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.

“We condemn the incident in Muzaffarnagar, since the Akhilesh Government came in power in UP, there have been over 100 riots. Not a single real culprit has been nabbed,” he added.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took part in an event leading up to the laying of the foundation of a 182-metre iron and bronze structure of India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his 138th birth anniversary.

This statue, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 2,074 crore, will be twice the size of the Statue of Liberty in the United States.

Five injured in concrete slab collapse near Thane

Five persons were injured after a concrete slab of their building at Kalwa near here fell on them, police said on Thursday.

The ceiling of the second floor flat of the four-storey Veerati Building came crashing down on the residents living on the first floor last afternoon, they said.

Police said the 25-year-old structure was evacuated following the incident and as one of the concrete columns supporting it also developed cracks.

The injured have been identified as Ruksana Khan (32), Maya Rebari (2), Kunku Rebari (23), Shanta Rebari (21) and Saybi Rebari (47).

Nation remembers Indira Gandhi on 29th death anniversary

The nation on Thursday remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 29th death anniversary, with President Pranab Mukherjee and other leaders paying tributes to her.

Mukherjee paid floral tributes at Shakti Sthal, the memorial of Gandhi. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi were also present on the occasion. Union Ministers Sushilkumar Shinde, Kamal Nath, Oscar Fernandes, M Veerappa Moily and Krishna Tirath were also present.

Patna blasts case: Another person detained

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday detained a person named Mohammad Aftab Ansari in connection with Patna blast case.

According to reports, Aftab was detained while he was travelling to Delhi from Muzaffarpur.

He is being interrogated by the NIA to get some more crucial clues in the case.

The Agency hopes to find some substantial clues from the laptop recovered from Aftab.

Three people were earlier arrested in connection with the blasts.

Prince Charles visit Uttarakhand on November six

Security has been stepped up at several places in Uttarakhand in view of the forthcoming visit of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles to the state beginning November six, officials said on Wednesday.

State Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar held a meeting with officials in Dehradun to review preparations for the British royal couple’s visit to Uttarakhand. He asked them to make elaborate security arrangements at places which form part of their itinerary including Rishikesh, Selaqui and Narendranagar, the officials said.

Gadkari slams Congress over corruption, price rise

Asaram Bapu’s bail plea rejected by Gujarat court

A Gujarat court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, currently lodged in prison on charges of sexually assaulting a minor.

Asaram had on October 24 moved the sessions court in Gandhinagar for regular bail on grounds of delay in filing of FIR in connection with another sexual assault case lodged by two Surat-based sisters against him and son Narayan Sai.
