7 suspected SIMI activists escape from MP district jail

Seven undertrial prisoners allegedly belonging to banned outfit SIMI, including two who had shot dead three persons in a broad daylight attack some years ago, escaped from the district jail here in the wee hours today.

The prisoners fled from Khandwa district jail around 3:30 AM after breaking the bathroom wall of the jail, Superintendent of Police Manoj Sharma told PTI.

Two constables — Lokesh Hirve and Suro Tiwari — who were deployed there, were also attacked with knives by the prisoners before they fled, he said.

BCCI president N Srinivasan might have called his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan as just a cricket enthusiast but Chennai Super Kings opener Michael Hussey has said that the betting accused official was actually running the IPL team.

In his book, Underneath The Southern Cross, Hussey has said that Team owner N Srinivasan had handed the control of the team to Gurunath.

(Siasat News): Central Crime Station (CCS) has arrested two directors of Delta Cabs as they had deceived the people promising big dividends if they invest money in Taxi Cab business.

As per the details, the two directors Ahmed Hussain, 39 and Sajid Hussain, 40, had been running Delta Cabs at Ramkot. They had deceived 844 persons in the name of investing in the business in return of big dividends.

Siemens to axe 15,000 jobs globally by 2014-end

German engineering company Siemens has reportedly decided to axe up to 15,000 jobs worldwide by the end of 2014.

A spokesman for the company said that the job cuts will not necessarily mean that all the workers will lose their jobs, since some could be transferred to other departments.

According to news.com.au, the company wants to cut 5,000 jobs in Germany and another 10,000 jobs abroad.

Sensex gains marginally during pre-noon trade

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets gained 106.25 points or 0.55 percent in the morning trade Tuesday.

Good buying was observed in banking index (bankex), capital goods and auto sectors, while selling pressure was seen in metal sector.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 19,452.05 points, was trading at 19,486.02 points in the pre-noon session, up 106.25 points or 0.55 percent from previous day’s close at 19,379.77 points.

A surgeon in China says he has constructed an extra nose out of a man’s rib cartilage and implanted it under the skin of his forehead to prepare for a transplant in probably the first operation of its kind.

US makes India groundbreaking defence offer

Kedarnath-Badrinath pilgrimage to restart Oct 5

Almost four months after flash floods and heavy rains led to the halt of the annual “Char Dham Yatra” in Uttarakhand, the religious trip to Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines is scheduled to open for people Oct 5, officials said Tuesday.

While small vehicles have been allowed right up to the Badrinath shrine, as earlier, vehicles will be stopped at Soneprayag on the Kedarnath route and pilgrims will have to trek 24 km to reach the Kedarnath temple.

The number of pilgrims will be “controlled by the state government this time round” and health check-up’s will be mandatory for pilgrims.

White House orders government shutdown

The White House Office of Management and Budget late Monday night ordered the federal agencies to begin their plans for a government shutdown, due to a lack of bipartisan funding bill, reported Xinhua.

“We do not have a clear indication that Congress will act in time for the President to sign a continuing resolution before the end of the day tomorrow, Oct 1, 2013. Therefore, agencies should now execute plans for an orderly shutdown due to the absence of appropriations,” said Sylvia Burwell, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, in a statement.

PM-Sharif dialogue a positive step forward, says US

The meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York is a positive step forward and would improve their bilateral ties, the US said on Tuesday.
