Muzaffarnagar riots: Authorities for video conferencing of Som, Rana

District authorities have requested the court hearing the Muzaffarnagar riots case against BJP MLAs Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana that the proceedings be conducted through video conferencing.

This has been done to prevent producing the duo in court from Banda and Urai district jails in view of law and order situation here following the riots, which claimed 49 lives.

BCCI to decide on home series title sponsors tomorrow

The newly constituted 26-member BCCI marketing committee headed by Amitabh Chaudhary would meet here tomorrow to decide on new title sponsors for the international matches organised in India for next six months.

The BCCI had invited new bids from corporate houses after existing series title sponsors – telecom major Airtel –
decided against renewing their association with the Board.

The bids – for matches to be held from October 1 this year to March 31, 2014 – are to be opened, evaluated and
sponsorships awarded tomorrow at 12 noon, the BCCI had announced.

Pak: Four militants killed in encounter

Four militants of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban were killed during a shootout on the Hub highway here, police said.

Senior Superintendent of CID Police, Chaudhary Aslam, said around 200 kilograms of explosive material and weapons were also recovered from them.

The encounter took place late last night after a truck was intercepted on the Hub highway when it was coming from
Baluchistan province to Karachi, he said.

“When the truck was stopped, the militants belonging to a splinter group of the TTP responded by opening fire on the CID police party,” he said.

The 31-year-old singer’s representative claimed that Spears was merely “joking” about the plans, reported TMZ

This will no doubt come as a relief for Sean Preston’s father Kevin Federline, who stated he wasn’t comfortable with his son stepping out into the public eye at such a tender age.

Compounder shot dead

A nursing home compounder was allegedly shot dead by unidentified men when he was returning from Khatoli to his village Shayampur in the district, police said today.

Balesh Kumar (27) was shot dead yesterday, they said.

A case has been registered and efforts are on to arrest the accused, SP City Sharvan Kumar said.

Meanwhile irate people protested the incident and blocked the roard on Budhana -Khatoli for some time.

Karat meets Mulayam to discuss evolving political situation

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today held a meeting with Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and is understood to have discussed the evolving political situation in the wake of the controversy over the ordinance to protect convicted lawmakers.

CPI(M) sources said the meeting was essentially to discuss the plans for holding a national convention in the
defence of secularism.

The convention is slated to be held on October 30 here.

School teacher arrested for molestation bid on student

A school teacher was arrested for allegedly trying to molest a 10-year-old girl inside the school premises in Nanpara area here, police said today.

According to a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Micheal Yeshu alias Yashudas Baba, teacher and manager of St.
Peter Inter college, tried to molest the child but failed as some people suddenly arrived there, they said.

Fazlullah claims responsibility for killing Pak Army general

Taliban commander Mullah Fazlullah has claimed responsibility for the assassination of a Pakistan Army general in a roadside bombing last month in the restive northwest, according to a video released by the militants.

Fazlullah, who led Taliban in Swat Valley till the army launched an operation to flush out the militants in 2009,
appears in the video, which features graphic footage of the attack on Maj Gen Sanaullah Khan Niazi on September 15.

Niazi, who had led Pakistani troops in the campaign against the Taliban in Swat, died in the attack along with
another officer and a soldier.

US: Taliban attack could have been foreseen

US commanders at a base in Afghanistan where two Marines were killed in a surprise insurgent attack last year had no explicit warning but intelligence officers there had “consistent indicators” of Taliban interest in attacking, according to an investigation report.

A new study has found that eating more tomatoes and less processed red meat, could help men reduce their risk of dying from prostate cancer.

Researchers analyzed information gathered from almost 46,000 men for 25 years and found that those who adopted five or six of the healthy habits had a 39 percent lower risk of developing lethal prostate cancer than those who adopted one or none of the habits, according to the results presented at the European Cancer Congress in Amsterdam.

In another study involving more than 21,000 men, the risk reduction was 47 percent, the Japan Times reported.

A two-year-old Chinese boy had to be operated upon to remove an undeveloped fetus of his parasitic twin brother from his stomach.

According to the Inquisitr, Xiao Feng, from Huaxi, China, was rushed to the hospital after his stomach became so inflated that he was finding it difficult to breath, News.com.au reported.

Doctors were shocked when the X-Rays and MRI scans revealed that the baby had a fetus of his twin inside his enlarged stomach.

U.S. expels three Venezuelan diplomats in tit-for-tat retaliation

The United States has expelled three Venezuelan diplomats, including the South American country’s top envoy in Washington, the State Department has said.

The move from the United States came after Caracas expelled three American officials from the country on charges of sabotaging the economy.

The diplomats, who include charge d’affaires Calixto Ortega Rios, have been given 48 hours to leave.

The other Venezuelan diplomats being expelled are Second Secretary Monica Alejandra Sanchez Morales at the Washington embassy, and Consul Marisol Gutierrez de Almeida at the Houston consulate.
