Survivor of militant attack in Kashmir recounts fear

A survivor from Thursday’s militant attack in Kashmir recounted his fear of the incident on Friday.

Militants dressed in Indian Army uniforms attacked police and soldiers in Kathua and Samba Districts. In all, 12 persons were killed in the twin terror strikes.

A civilian, Rohit Sharma, who runs a shop near the attacked police station, said that though he escaped the attack, his neighbour was killed.

BJP to contest in 450 Lok Sabha seats in 2014: Rajnath

BJP president Rajnath Singh Friday said his party plans to contest around 450 Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 general elections and targets to win around 272 — so as to form the next central government on its own.

Moily, officials to ride buses every Wednesday to save oil

Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily as well as officials of the oil ministry and its PSUs will travel by public transport once a week starting Oct 9 as part of a fuel conservation drive.

SC allows Srinivasan to contest BCCI election, but with riders

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed N.Srinivasan to contest the BCCI elections this Sunday, but said that if he wins, he cannot take charge as president as long as the hearing of the case related to him and the board is being heard.

The apex court ruling came on a petition filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), which sought to restrain Srinivasan from seeking re-election pending the verdict on a petition filed by the CAB in July.

The court is expected to hear the matter again on Monday, a day after the BCCI election.

Timer-triggered blast in Civil Secretariat bus kills 19, injures 44 in Peshawar

At least 19 people were killed and 44 others injured when a bomb placed in a Civil Secretariat bus exploded in Peshawar.

Police and rescue officials reached the area and injured were taken to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and Charsadda District Headquarters Hospital, the Express Tribune reports.

The bus was carrying around 30 to 40 employees of the Secretariat, the report added.

According to the report, emergency has been declared in LRH following the blast.

Pak SC rejects Musharraf’s request for release in Bugti murder case

The Pakistan Supreme Court has rejected former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s verbal request for release in the Akber Bugti murder case.

A two-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, led the hearing on a bail request of Musharraf.

According to Dawn News, during the hearing, the bench rejected Musharraf’s verbal request for release, saying that the complainant must be present in person before the court for its judgment.

Centre grants Tripura waiver for recruiting teachers

The Central government, responding to Tripura’s demand, has given it a one-time exemption from conducting a teachers eligibility test (TET) for recruiting 5,000 school teachers, state’s Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said Friday.

“HRD (human resource development) ministry’s additional secretary Vrinda Sarup in a letter to Tripura’s principal secretary (education) informed that the government has given a one-time exemption from conducting TET prior to recruiting around 5,000 school teachers,” the minister told the on-going session of the assembly.

Pakistan SC rejects Musharraf’s request for release

In a major set-back to Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf, the country’s Supreme Court Friday rejected his request for release in the murder case of Balochistan leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, a media report said.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk rejected Musharraf’s verbal request for release, saying that he must be present in person before the court for its judgment, reported the DawnNews.

Musharraf is also facing other charges, including conspiracy to kill former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Pakistan court asks ISI to disclose service structure

In a blow to its secret operations, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was asked by the Islamabad High Court to submit details of its statute by which the country’s powerful espionage agency was functioning and recruiting its manpower.

According to a petition filed in June this year by ISI’s 34 civilian inspectors, the spy agency’s “slow and discriminatory promotion process” had led to an uncertainty over the status of the ISI’s civilian inspectors.
