Pakistani media hails India’s green signal to talks

The Pakistani media Saturday praised the Indian government for its decision to go ahead with the talks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif despite the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir Sep 26.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet Sunday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In an editorial, the Dawn newspaper said that the terror strike in Jammu failed to achieve its purpose of derailing the peace talks while The News International welcomed India’s firm stand to hold the talks.

Varun Gandhi slams UP government

BJP general secretary Varun Gandhi Saturday accused the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh government of pursuing the politics of appeasement and said its mistakes will lead to its collapse.

Gandhi was addressing a meeting at the Sur Sadan auditorium here with party workers who were denied permission to hold a rally two weeks ago in the Jat-dominated Akola, 30 km from the Agra.

“Mayawati’s over-confidence and pride brought her down. Now Akhilesh is repeating her mistakes,” he said.

BJP targets Congress over ordinance

The BJP Saturday the targeted Congress over its leader Rahul Gandhi trashing a cabinet approved-ordinance to save convicted lawmakers from disqualification and said it showed the “government could go wrong but not the family”.

“Rahul Gandhi has hinted that the government can do wrong but not the (Nehru-Gandhi) family,” Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi trashed the ordinance Friday saying “it should be tron and thorwn away”.

Nawaz Sharif eager to mark ‘new beginning’ with India in upcoming meet

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said he is looking forward to meet his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh to mark a ‘new beginning ‘ in the strained relationship between the two nations.

Nawaz said both the countries have spent huge amounts on developing a nuclear bomb over the past three decades, but now they are ready to re-engage with India in a substantive and purposeful dialogue, Daily Times reports.

Sharif said Islamabad and New Delhi have wasted ‘massive resources’ on the nuclear arms race, which could have been used for economic well-being of the citizens.

Governor accepts Viswaroop’s resignation

Governor E S L Narasimhan on Saturday accepted the resignation submitted by Minister for Animal Husbandry P Vishwaroop over the State’s bifurcation issue.

The Governor’s took the decision after Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy fowarded Vishwaroop’s resignation to the Governor for acceptance. Earlier on Thursday, Vishwaroop met the Governor at Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation in protest against the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh for formation of Telangana State. He ignored the Chief Minister’s advise to continue on the cabinet post.

Jagan is a “Financial Terrorist”: Anam

Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Saturday described YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy as a “Financial Terrorist”.

Talking to reporters at the State Secretariat here, Anam said that a close watch should be kept on Jagan’s activities in future as he had resorted to financial irregularities at a largescale. However, he said that Jagan’s release on bail had nothing to do with the Congress party or politics. He said Jagan was released as per the judicial procedures. Neither the Congress party, nor Government had any role in Jagan’s case, he said.

Railway freight rates hike unfair: Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Saturday urged the centre to withdraw the 15 percent busy season hike in railway freight rates that will be effective from Oct 1, saying the hike would be unfair.

In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa said: “When the railway freight movement is uniform throughout the year, then classifying the period October-June as busy season artificially and charging busy season rates is unfair.”

Pan Fried Chicken

Ingredients
Chicken breast – 1 (slice it horizontally)
Crushed pepper – As per taste
Lime juice – 2 tsp
Salt- as per taste

Method
1. Cut the breast horizontally. Now put it in a ziplock bag and tap well with a hammer.
2. Now add pepper salt and lemon juice.Keep it for 1/2 hr in the refrigerator.
3. Now pan fry it.(better to use non stick dosa or chappatti pan).
4. You can use this to make sandwiches, pasta, wraps, pizzas, noodles, fried rice or roll it inside chappati and have it.

Variations
– Add 1 tblsp of soy sauce for a chinese flavour.

Red Curry Paste – 4 tblsp (Use green curry paste to make Thai Green Curry)
Coconut Milk – 3 cups
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast – 2 (cut into bite size pieces)
Palm Sugar – 1 tblsp (optional)
Fish Sauce – 2 tblsp
Onion – 1 (sliced)
Vegetables of your choice – about 2 cups
(Some of the vegetable options are brinjals, bell pepper, mushroom, green beans, snap peas, bamboo shoots, tofu, water chestnuts, baby corn, carrots, cauliflower etc. Use 2-3 vegetables of your choice.)
Lime Leaves – 2-3
Sweet Thai Basil Leaves – 4 or 5 leaves
Oil – 1 tblsp

PM should take back ordinance: Nitish

A day after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi opposed an ordinance against disqualification of convicted lawmakers, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Saturday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take back the ordinance.

“It is not a question of prestige. The Congress-led UPA government should take back the ordinance immediately. If the PM withdraws the ordinance, it will enhance his prestige,” Nitish Kumar told reporters here.

“Let the government put the issue in parliament for discussion,” Nitish Kumar said, adding that Gandhi was right.

`Many urban women die due to heart disease’

Nearly 70 percent of urban women succumb to cardio-vascular diseases, mainly due to late diagnosis and smoking, a top surgeon said here Saturday, on the eve of World Heart Day.

“The tobacco habit is best left alone,” Ramakanta Panda, eminent cardiac surgeon and vice chairman of Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai, told IANS.

The theme of the World Heart Day this year is prevention of cardio-vascular diseases (CVD) among women and children.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said Islamabad and New Delhi have wasted `massive resources` on the nuclear arms race, which could have been used for economic well-being of the citizens.

The statement comes one day ahead the landmark meet between the two premiers of the South Asian rival nations on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations.

Sharif said he was looking forward to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to mark a new beginning in the strained relationship between the two nations, Dawn News reports.

Six Members of Parliament representing the Seemandhra region of Andhra Pradesh have met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to seek acceptance of their resignations over a central government and Congress Party proposal to go ahead with the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh for the creation of a new state of Telangana.

India US reach agreement on nuclear deal

India and US have reached agreement on the first commercial deal under their landmark civil nuclear accord amidst a controversy over India’s 2010 nuclear liability law that had stalled it.

The agreement was announced by US President Barack Obama after his summit meeting Friday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the White House oval office.

Scientists 95 percent sure global warming caused by humans

Climate scientists believe it is “extremely likely” that human activity is to blame for the bulk of global warming since the 1950s, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)has said.

IPCC experts are now 95 percent certain about the preponderant role of humans in climate change, compared with the 90-percent certainty the panel cited in its previous report, issued in 2007, a report released Friday said.

In a message uploaded on social media networks on Friday, Omar Khalid Khurasani said they are not begging for peace talks, instead they took the initiative of offering peace talks to save Pakistan from more losses.

Expectations from Sharif meeting low: PM

Expectations from a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have “to be toned down”, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told US President Barack Obama following a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that left 12 people, including armymen, dead earlier in the week.
Manmohan Singh told Obama in a summit held here Friday that “the expectations have to be toned down given the terror arm which is still active in our subcontinent” and terrorists’ presence “still remain focused in Pakistan”.

Pakistan again jolted by strong earthquake

An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted several cities in Pakistan’s Sindh and Balochistan provinces Saturday, media reports said.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department the earthquake was measured at 7.2, Xinhua reported.

Tauseef Ahmad, an official with the local meteorological department, confirmed that a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit south and southwest Pakistan at 12:34 p.m.

The epicentre was located 104 km northeast of Awaran, a district in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, which was hit by a 7.7-magnitude quake Tuesday afternoon.
