Inspector of Women’s police station Ghansibazar, Ms. Shriya told that during the last year 338 cases were registered against the cruelties of husbands. This year during the past 8 months two hundred FIR’s were registered. In this way, nearly 25 cases are registered every month on an average. Most of the cases belong to Muslim women from Falaknuma, Chandrayan Gutta, Talabkatta and Bhavani Nagar.

BJP to work for change in outlook of Muslims towards it: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

Supermodel Naomi Campbell says she once kidnapped her supermodel-friend Kate Moss and took her to Dublin.

“I was introduced to Kate. I kidnapped her and that was it. I ­kidnapped her, stopped in Paris to pick up Christy Turlington, and we all flew to Dublin together,” dailystar.co.uk quoted Campbell as saying.

The 43-year-old also mentioned that she counts Moss as a member of her family.

Sri Lanka accuses UN official of violating mandate

The Sri Lankan government Sunday accused the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay of violating her mandate through some comments that she made to the media during her week-long visit to the island nation.

Pillay’s observation that Sri Lanka “is showing signs of heading in an increasingly authoritarian direction” is a political statement on her part, which clearly transgresses her mandate and the basic norms which should be observed by a discerning international civil servant, reported Xinhua citing Sri Lanka’s information department.

Anjana Padmanabhan wins first ‘Indian Idol Junior’

Couple trapped on ferris wheel as Beyonce films video

A woman and her companion were trapped on the top of a ferris wheel for half an hour, where singer Beyonce Knowles was filming a new single.

The incident happened when the 31-year-old singer filmed her new music video directed by fashion photographer Terry Richardson at Coney Island amusement park here Aug 29, reports aceshowbiz.com.

According to Splash, the “Single ladies” hitmaker decided to shoot some footage on a ferris wheel. Her team then closed the wheel for public, but failed to notice that the couple was still inside one of the pods.

Seven found dead in Afghan province

As many as seven bullet-riddled bodies were found in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province Sunday.

“Afghan National Police (ANP) found seven bullet-riddle bodies from Andar district earlier on Sunday, and all the victims apparently are civilians working in a local construction firm in Ghazni,” reported Xinhua citing provincial governor Musa Khan Akbarzada.

Blaming Taliban militants for kidnapping and murdering the people, the governor said the militants had kidnapped the victims a couple of days ago and shot them dead.

Harry Connick Jr. joins ‘American Idol’?

Singer-composer Harry Connick Jr. has reportedly joined the 13th edition of singing reality show “American Idol” as the third judge.

The 45-year-old is said to join singers Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban on the judging panel, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

Over 716,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon

The number of Syrian refugees receiving aid in Lebanon has surpassed 716,000 with the arrival of 13,000 more people last week, the UN’s refugee agency has said.

Of these refugees, about 606,000 have been registered so far while more than 109,000 are still waiting to be registered, reported Xinha Sunday citing the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

About 200,000 Syrian refugees were registered in northern Lebanon, 206,000 in the eastern Bekaa region, 119,000 in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, and 79,000 in southern Lebanon, it added.

Saudi Arabia favours Syrians over possible US strike

Saudi Arabia supports whatever the Syrian people desire over possible US strike, reported Xinhua citing Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al- Faisal Sunday.

Reports of a chemical attack in a Damascus suburb, Aug. 21, marked a turning point in the attitude of the US and its allies toward the Syrian government.

Four including father, daughter electrocuted to death

Four persons, including a father and daughter, were electrocuted to death today after coming in contact with high tension wires during a shop inauguration ceremony at Madhavaram area in the city, police said.

The victims, identified as Thilakraj (53) and his daughter Sneha (19), electrician Naveen Chandran and priest Ramamurthy were performing prayers during the opening ceremony of a beauty parlour when the incident took place this morning, they said.

All of them died on the spot.

Further probes into the case are on, police added.

More than 110,000 dead in Syria conflict: NGO

More than 110,000 people have died in the conflict in Syria since March 2011, a rights watchdog said today, days after alleged gas attacks near Damascus shocked the world.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the toll since the beginning of the 29-month uprising now stands at 110,371 people, with at least 40,146 civilians killed including nearly 4,000 women and more than 5,800 children.

The group, which relies on a network of activists, doctors and lawyers on the ground throughout Syria, said 21,850 rebel fighters had also been killed.

Naroda Gaam rioting case: 68 accused seek recusation of judge

VHP leader Jaideep Patel, along with other 67 accused in Naroda Gaam rioting case of 2002 have demanded that the present designated judge should be recused from conducting the trial, alleging he is “biased” toward them.

Sixty eight, out of the total 82 accused, facing trial in the Naroda Patiya case have filed an application before designated judge Jyotsna Yagnik requesting her to recuse herself from conducting the trial.

The application is likely to be heard next week.

Arabs urge UN, world to take ‘deterrent’ steps on Syria

Arab League foreign ministers urged the United Nations and the international community to take “deterrent” action against the Syrian regime over alleged chemical attacks near Damascus.

Egypt’s Morsi to stand trial for ‘inciting murder’: TV

Ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi is to stand trial in a criminal court for “incitement to murder”, state television reported without giving a date for the trial.

It said yesterday that he will stand trial along with 14 other suspects in his Muslim Brotherhood movement on charges of “incitement to murder and violence” in December 2012 when deadly clashes broke out between his supporters and opponents outside the presidential palace.

Already accused of crimes related to his 2011 escape from prison, Morsi has been held at a secret location since his ouster by the army on July 3.

US Navy deploys amphibious ship to Mediterranean

The US Navy has deployed an amphibious transport ship to the Mediterranean, where five destroyers are already in place for possible missile strikes on Syria, a defense official said today.

The USS San Antonio, with several helicopters and hundreds of Marines on board, is “on station in the Eastern Mediterranean” but “has received no specific tasking,” said the defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
