Congress not authorised to allow Syria strikes: Iran

The US Congress is not authorised to green-light American military strikes against Syria as any such action would be in violation of international law, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said today.

Iran’s reaction came a day after US President Barack Obama said he was seeking congressional approval for punitive military action against the Syrian regime over its suspected use of chemical weapons against civilians, which Washington says killed more than 1,400 people.

Woman raped in Pune hospital; ward boy, guard arrested

In a shocking incident, a mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped by a ward boy and a security guard in the lift of a municipal hospital at Bhosari near here, police said today.

Both the accused have been arrested.

The 30-year-old woman, who is also speech impaired, had been admitted to the hospital from a shelter home where she lived, following health complaints on August 26.

The accused allegedly took the woman to the lift on the pretext of shifting her to another ward and raped her on August 29, police said.

Pakistan unlikely to sent players for 2014 HIL

Pakistan did not play in the inaugural Hockey India League and it is extremely unlikely that they will also feature in the next year’s event as Pakistan Hockey Federation is reluctant to sent its players to India because of the current tension prevailing between the two nations.

PHF secretary Asif Bajwa said the way present situation stands the Federation was not keen on sending the players for the second edition of the event to be held across different cities in India from January 23 to February 23 next year.

Peace Rally of Telangana supporters stop by police

(Siasat News) The Peace Rally of Telangana supporters which was taken out in Secunderabad was foiled by the police. Police arrested its leaders. Telangana Political Joint Action Committees expressed its anger on the police and said that it is a narrow minded mentality of the police. The organisors were trying to organized peace march starting from Paradise circle in Secunderabad. Police didn’t accord permission to it.

Learn Urdu in 7 days – Classes started in Siasat

(Siasat News) Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, Managing Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily inaugurated Learn Urdu in 7 days Classes in NCPUL Hall in the office of Siasat Urdu Daily yesterday at 10.15 am. Vizag HPCL fire: Four more dead, toll rises to 23

The death toll in August 23 fire at the Hindustan PetroleumBSE 1.13 % Corporation Ltd’s (HPCL) refinery here rose to 23 with four more workers succumbing to their injuries today.

While three succumbed to their burn injuries in the hospital here, another one died at a hospital in Mumbai today, HPCLBSE 1.13 % sources said.

The four deceased were identified as K Tata Rao (60), M V Ramana (45), Sambhu Manna (55) and Subhash Majhi (25), they said.

A massive blaze had broken out on august 23 evening at the sprawling complex when staffers from private companies were at work.

YSR Congress assures commitment to united Andhra Pradesh

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) today came out openly in support of united Andhra Pradesh, describing itself as a party committed to unity.

Actress Parineeti Chopra, who has worked with Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, says she prefers to work with the new crop of actors rather than big stars.

The 24-year-old actress said she has rejected few projects opposite some of Bollywood’s biggest stars because the routine song-and-dance films does not excite her.

“I have been offered a lot of films with many big actors but I have unfortunately declined them. I felt I did not have much to do. I will never do a usual film with song and dance, the character has to be important,” she told PTI in an interview.

Eight-year-old girl raped by neighbour

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 21-year-old youth who lived in her neighbourhood in South East Delhi.

The child was playing outside her house yesterday when her neighbour, Mohsid, lured her to his rented accommodation in Jaitpur area and sexually assaulted her, police said today.

When the girl cried for help, her mother and other locals rushed to Mohsid’s room and found the girl crying. She was taken to a nearby hospital from where she was discharged after treatment, police said.

Konkana Sen Sharma, Sakshi Tanwar in film on sex workers?

The makers of ‘Kamathipura’, a movie on sex workers, are trying to rope in actress Konkana Sen Sharma to play the lead role.

The film will delve on the life of sex workers in Mumbai.

“We had approached Konkana for this film. We felt she could play a sex worker. But she wasn’t comfortable doing it. We are trying to convince her…I don’t know if she will finally agree or not,” director Ankush Bhatt told PTI.

“The character will require to be shown in 18 to 60 years of age… There will be five phases. So we are looking for someone who can play this part well,” he added.

Seema Andhra ministers’ resignation likely on Friday

Central Ministers of Seema Andhra region have taken a tough stand against the bifurcation of the State. India, Russia to review crucial military projects

India is expected to take up the issues of progress made in the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier project and pricing of the fifth generation fighter aircraft project during Defence Secretary R K Mathur’s meeting with his Russian counterparts in Moscow tomorrow.

The Defence Secretary is leading a high-level tri-services team comprising three-star rank officers from the three services, and the status of ongoing projects such as Gorshkov, which is now rechristened as INS Vikramaditya and FGFA are expected to come up for discussion, Defence Ministry sources said here.
