Walkie Talkie City skyscraper, located in London, has been renamed Walkie Scorchie after an ultra-bright light reflected from the building melted a Jaguar car that was parked beneath it.

The 525ft, 200-million-pound-building has distinctive concave surfaces that reflect a bright beam of light that has now caused a lot of damage to vehicles that were parked beneath it, the Independent reported.

Astronomers capture 500 GHz band image of planetary nebula for 1st time

Astronomers have successfully synthesized the distribution of atomic carbon around a planetary nebula NGC 6302 in test observations with the ALMA Band 8 receiver.

This is the first 500 GHz band astronomical image captured by a radio interferometer with unprecedentedly high resolution.

NGC 6302 is a planetary nebula, which is in the final stage of the life of a star with a mass several times that of the Sun. Visible light image shows a bipolar shape of gas ejected from the dying star.

BJP raises issue of missing coal files in Lok Sabha

Majority of Pakistanis favour trade ties with India

Even as the Pakistan government dithers on granting MFN-status to India, 63 per cent of Pakistanis are in favour of trade ties with New Delhi, a new poll said today.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, a majority of Pakistanis are in favour of trade ties.

A nationally representative sample from across the country’s four provinces was asked: “In your opinion should Pakistan trade with India or not?” Responding to this, 63 per cent said “Yes” and 33 per cent said “No”. Four per cent did not respond.

Gold recovers by Rs 440 on low-level buying

Snapping four-day of losses, gold prices recovered by Rs 440 to Rs 31,540 per ten gram here today on revival of buying by stockists and investors at existing lower levels.

Silver rose further by Rs 1,080 to Rs 55,430 per kg on sustained offtake by industrial units.

Traders said low-level buying by stockists and shifting of funds from weakening equity to rising bullion mainly boosted the sentiment.

10-year old boy strangled to death by his aunt

A ten-year-old boy was strangled to death allegedly by his aunt over a family dispute at Needoor Keyipuzha near here today, police said.

Rahul’s aunt Vijayamma has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, they said.

The deceased’s father Shaji and mother Bindu are divorced and Shaji was working in the Gulf.

Vijayamma is Shaji’s sister, police said, adding that the case was being probed.

US steps up surveillance of Pakistan’s nuclear arms: report

The US, which spends billions monitoring adversaries like Al-Qaeda, North Korea and Iran, pays an equally intense focus on ally Pakistan and has ramped up surveillance of its nuclear arms, according to a report.

The “US intelligence agencies are also focused on the security of the nuclear programme in India, Pakistan’s arch-rival,” The Washington Post reported today, citing classified documents, but gave no details on Indian programme.

Five-year-old Chinese boy becomes youngest pilot

A five-year-old boy from China has become the Guinness world record holder for the youngest person to pilot a plane.

He Yide, nicknamed Duoduo, made a 35-minute flight in an ultralight aircraft across the Beijing Wildlife Park Aug 31, Chinese media reported Tuesday.

Zhang Yonghui, the person in charge of the aviation club where Duoduo learned flying, said the distance of the flight was 30 km.

He Liesheng, the boy’s father, said he wanted his son to become braver by flying a plane and also develop his curiosity and desire to explore, according to the Global Times.

Pakistani actress Meera bags Pashto film

Pakistani star Meera is all set to star in a forthcoming Pashto film ‘Worbal’, which will be filmed in Murree and Islamabad in Pakistan.

During an interview with the Express Tribune, Shahid Khan, the producer of the film, asserted that the project has a national focus, unlike most Pashto films that usually restrict themselves to audiences from the province.

Khan insisted that the film will prove to be a milestone for the Pakistani film industry.

He said that it was great that mainstream actors were now expressing an interest to act in Pashto films.

Pakistan violates ceasefire again.

Pakistani troops Tuesday violated the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, by firing at Indian positions, an army spokesman said.

Indian troops retaliated in response, he said.

“Pakistani troops fired at our positions in Doda battalion area of the LoC in Poonch this morning (Tuesday),” Captain S.N. Acharya told IANS.

“Pakistani firing started at 9.30 a.m. They used automatics and light weapons. Our troops effectively retaliated. Firing exchanges were continuing when last reports came in at 11.30 a.m.,” he said.
