Stage set for Modi’s rally tomorrow

A massive stage with LED screens and a 100-feet long cut out of Narendra Modi have been readied for his rally in the city tomorrow.

On the eve of the Gujarat Chief Minister’s rally, BJP workers were busy with last minute preparations of the rally. The party activists were today giving finishing touches to the 40×80 feet stage erected at the rally ground.

Those who will come to attend the rally will be greeted by a 100-feet long cut out of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate as they will enter the rally ground.

Seema Andhra MPs divided on resignation issue

Only four MPs met Ms. Meera Kumar, Speaker of Lok Sabha yesterday. Mr. Harish Kumar and Mr. S.P.Y. Reddy (MPs) withdrew from the decision of meeting the speaker. Mr. L. Rajgopal, Arun Kumar, Mr. Venkat Ram Reddy and Mr. Sai Pratab met the Speaker and demanded to accept their resignations. They told that there is no pressure on them. They hoped that their resignation would be accepted. More members of Lok Sabha might meet the Speaker. Mr. Arun Kumar defended the statement made by Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy and said that he has not said anything wrong but presented the facts.

Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily while addressing a condolence meeting at Madina Education Center yesterday told that instead of condolence meeting, such meetings should be called prayers meetings for consoling the deceased persons. Harassment of neo Muslim resolved by Minorities Commission

Mohammed Arshad, a neo Muslim resident of Yousufguda working in a private cable company was being harassed by his employer. He approached Minorities commission and submitted a detailed memorandum. Mr. Abid Rasool Khan Chairman, A.P. State Minorities Commission called the representatives of the cable company and resolved the issue. The management of the cable company agreed to pay a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to Arshad.

Last date of submission of Scholarship forms extended up to 10th October

Mr. Mohammed Abid Rasool Khan, Chairman of A.P. State Minorities Commission told that on the basis of his recommendations, Minorities Welfare Minister, Mr. Rahman Khan has informed him that the last date of submission of applications for the award of scholarships by Central Govt. has been extended up to 10th October 2013 for Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-means scholarships. Mr. Abid Rasool Khan had requested him to extend the date up to 30th October but the Minister of Minorities Welfare agreed to extend it up to 10th October.

‘India supports elimination of chemical weapons material, equipment in Syria’: PM

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Saturday said India supports strongly the elimination of chemical weapons material and equipment in Syria.

Addressing the 68th session of United Nations General Assembly here, Dr. Singh said the increasingly lethal conflict in Syria is not only a tragedy for the people of Syria, but also threatens stability and security in the region and beyond.

“It has been made worse by the use of chemical weapons. The use of chemical weapons, whosoever may have deployed them, must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he added.

Chinese president to visit Indonesia, Malaysia

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay state visits to Indonesia, and Malaysia besides attending the 21st economic leaders’ meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum next month, the government said Sunday.

Syria conflict threatens region: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday said that the situation in Syria is not only a tragedy for the people but threatens the security of the region.

“We are deeply concerned about the future of West Asia, a region with which India shares deep bonds of history, and one that is critical for our energy security as well as the livelihoods of nearly seven million Indians who work and live in the region,” he said during the course of his speech at the annual debate of the UN General Assembly.

15 killed in Egypt truck-bus collision

At least 15 people were killed and one person was seriously injured in Egypt Saturday when a truck and microbus had a head on collision, Xinhua reported.

The accident occurred in the country’s Ismailiya governorate. Only 11 bodies could be immediately identified.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt, killing at least 10,000 people each year, according to official reports.

Lack of highway monitoring systems, poor road maintenance and negligence of traffic rules are behind the high rate of road accidents in Egypt.

Weapons of mass destruction free middle-east needed: Egypt

The Middle East region should be free of weapons of mass destruction, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy here Saturday during the General Debate of UN general assembly.

Fahmy said that “a new Middle East will not come about without ensuring the right of equal security”, adding that the region should be free from threats posed by the existence of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, Xinhua reported.

Iraq hails US, Iran shift in relations

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al- Maliki Saturday welcomed the development in the relations between the US and Iran, stressing that such ties would help ease tensions in the region and the world.

600,000 pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia for Hajj

Some 600,000 pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia so far for this Hajj season, half of them being present in Mecca and the rest in Medina, Xinhua reported Saturday.

The Hajj ministry has assigned 40,000 workers to serve the pilgrims this Hajj season, reported Saudi Press Agency citing Undersecretary of Hajj Affairs Hattem Qadhi.

He said the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Airport in Medina received more than 96 Hajj flights Friday, and that the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah receives over 100 flights on a daily basis.

UN chief, Iraqi FM discuss Syrian refugees issue

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has held talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, with both sides stressing on the need for additional fund to help Syrian refugees in Iraq.

“The secretary-general briefed the Minister on the latest peace efforts for Syria, following last night’s Security Council resolution,” reported Xinhua citing UN spokesperson Martin Nesirky here. “He thanked Iraq for its generous hospitality to Syrian refugees.”

Iranian army unveils home-made combat drone

The Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Saturday unveiled new home-made combat drone, capable of flying at an altitude of 4.57 km, and has a flight endurance of eight hours and an effective operational radius of 200 km, Xinhua reported.

“One of the capabilities of Yasir (the newly unveiled drone) is detecting and targeting remote spots,” said Commander of Iranian Army’s Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan, adding the drone is equipped with the most advanced reconnaissance systems.

US House to vote on government funding Saturday

The US House of Representatives is expected to vote later Saturday on a short-term government funding bill proposed by Republican leaders to fund the federal government’s operations through Dec 15 and delay the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, for a year.
