‘C.I.D.’ can’t be like ‘Crime Patrol’, says producer

“C.I.D.” producer B.P Singh, who recently celebrated the 1000th episode of the detective show, says this serial has its own format and cannot become like the other crime thrillers on the television.

“We want to keep our identity intact. We cannot become like ‘Savdhaan India’ or ‘Crime Patrol’. We will stay ‘C.I.D.’. We cannot get away from making murder mysteries,” Singh told IANS in a telephonic interview.

He said that actors like Shivaji Satam and Dayanand Shetty who have been associated with the show for long, have now become big names. But the show’s team is open to new faces too.

SDPI partly welcomes SC verdict on secret vote rejecting all candidates

(Pervez Bari): The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has partly welcomed the latest Supreme Court verdict wherein the citizens have been granted right to cast secret negative vote rejecting all candidates contesting polls. India shall now become the 14th country in the world to allow secret negative voting. Earlier, the option to reject was not a secret one as even though the right was available to citizens under rule 49(o), voters had to give the option in writing on voters’ register.

Barack Obama promises PM to take up terror issue with Nawaz Sharif

US President Barack Obama has promised to take up with Nawaz Sharif in a “frank” manner the issue of continued Pakistan-based terror directed against India as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told him that progress in dialogue will depend on action on this front.

The promise was conveyed to Singh during their summit meeting here yesterday when the Prime Minister referred to the attacks in Jammu two days back and highlighted how terror emanating from Pakistan impacts India “every waking hour” day in and day out, according to sources.

Would be the first man to sign letter seeking unity of AP

YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy tonight asked the Samaikya Andhra Joint Action Committee to write a letter to the Centre demanding that Andhra Pradesh be kept united and said he would be the first signatory to it.

In his first public address after his release from jail five days ago, Jagan told lawyers from Seemaandhra region that the state would remain united only if all fought for it together.

Iraqi minister doubts new civil war on horizon

Iraq’s foreign minister said he doubts the escalating violence in the country will lead to “an all-out sectarian or civil war.”

Hoshyar Zebari gave several reasons in an interview yesterday with The Associated Press: the Shiite, Sunni and other communities “know their limits;” the violence is limited mainly to Baghdad and its suburbs; and Sunni and Shiite religious leaders have edicts against killing each other’s followers.

Reddy would have resigned had he cared about united AP: YSRCP

YSR Congress party today slammed Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s statement that he would champion “the cause of united state”.

YSRCP leader Konatala Ramakrishna said that Reddy’s remarks would have had some credibility had he and his Cabinet colleagues resigned immediately after the Congress high command announced its decision to divide the state.

“After taking a good long gap of time, as if coming out of hibernation, if Kiran Kumar Reddy starts speaking of a united state, it appears as if he is acting at the behest of the high command,” Ramakrishna said in a statement here.

Singh to meet Sharif today; to raise Pak-based terrorism

In his first meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif later today, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to strongly raise the issue of terrorism, and emphasise that the dialogue process cannot succeed unless anti-India activities of groups like LeT and JuD chief Hafeez Saeed are curbed.

Singh is expected to clearly tell the new Pakistani leadership that Islamabad needs to “match its words by action” when it comes to their commitment on counter-terrorism.

HC quashes charge sheet against lawyer in cheating case

The Bombay High Court has quashed a charge sheet filed by CBI in a lower court against a 60-year-old woman advocate, who was accused of cheating a nationalised bank by conspiring with borrowers.

However, the case against other accused in the lower court would continue, a bench headed by Justice S C Dharmadhikari ruled on September 24.

The bench came down heavily on CBI for accusing the advocate Mohana Raj Nair without her fault in the case in which she had given legal opinion to the Indian Bank which had been cheated. However, the judges let go the agency with a warning.

Two get 10 years in jail for gangrape

A local court sentenced two persons to 10 years imprisonment in connection with a three-year-old gangrape case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Rajkumar Verma yesterday awarded 10 years jail to Rajendra and Satish for abducting a married woman, holding her captive and raping her on May 20, 2009 in Ghunghter area here.

After the ordeal, the victim was taken to Delhi by the duo where she was sold to a person. The woman somehow managed to contact her family and got herself released.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs nine thousand on each of the accused.

Dog dies while saving 4-year-old boy from speeding car

A ‘hero’ dog has died after he saved a 4-year-old boy in US by pushing him away from the path of a speeding car.

Simon, a 36.2 kg Boxer, pushed his visually impaired owner Dave Furukawa’s son to safety, while being struck in the process by the vehicle.

“This is true loyalty and courage,” said Furukawa.

Furukawa was walking his son, Will, to school in Atlanta when a red Chrysler ran through the stop sign and hit the pooch as they crossed a street last week, NBC affiliate WXIA-TV reported.

“The Tribunal passed an order only to implement the intent of the legislature, the dictum of the Supreme Court and the law in force. It was not an order dehors the existing law but was an order that was passed primarily to ensure strict compliance of the law of the land,” a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said.

Violence over RAF jawan molesting school girl

A Rapid Action Force constable allegedly molested a school girl in Darjeeling, triggering angry protests by locals and students who fought a pitched battle with police.

The police fired three warning shots in the air and lathicharged the protesters to disperse the mob which threw stones at the securitymen and attacked the police outpost at Singmari here last night, police said.
