Baba Ramdev predicts win for Narendra Modi in 2014 polls

Yoga guru Ramdev on Sunday said that the BJP led by Narendra Modi would return to power in the 2014 general elections.

“It is 100 % certain that Narendra Modi will win,” Ramdev told reporters here after taking part in a rally marking September 28 as Swami Vivekananda Day in Illinois.

“I see that India is ready for a revolution and change. In the election Congress will get 100 seats, BJP and its alliance will get 250-300 seats.

“I think a new history will be created in Indian politics in 2014,” he said.

Sonia Gandhi praises Manmohan Singh

In an apparent attempt at assuaging his feelings in the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s denunciation of the government, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi on Sunday praised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying schemes launched under his leadership have helped millions of people from the marginalised sections.

“They (marginalised sections) faced discrimination at every level. The UPA government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has lifted million of them through its flagship schemes,” she said at a function at Neyar Dam about 30 km from here.

All eyes on Lalu Prasad, verdict in fodder scam case tomorrow

A CBI court in Ranchi will pronounce its judgement tomorrow in the multi-crore fodder scam, in which RJD chief Lalu Prasad, if convicted, will face immediate disqualification as a Lok Sabha member.

Prasad and 44 others have been charged with fraudulent withdrawal to the tune of Rs 37.7 crore on fake fodder bills from Chaibasa treasury in the 1990s in a case lodged by CBI. Chaibasa was then part of undivided Bihar.

Rahul’s remark has eroded Congress and govt’s image: Tariq Anwar

NCP leader and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Tariq Anwar, on Sunday, said that Rahul Gandhi’s disapproval of the UPA government’s Ordinance to protect convicted lawmakers has dented the image of the government and Congress. “The image of both the UPA government and the Congress has been eroded by Rahul’s strong disapproval of the ordinance approved by the Prime Minister,” he said.

The development also indicated that there was a lack of coordination between the party (Congress) and the UPA government headed by it, Anwar said.

US drone strike kills 4 militants in Pakistan

At least four suspected militants were killed when a US drone fired missiles on a compound in Pakistan’s restive North Waziristan region.

The CIA-operated spy plane fired two missiles at a house near Dargah Mandi, days after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif raised the issue of drone attacks at the UN and said it “is a continued violation of our territorial integrity.”

He asked the US to stop drone attacks as such strikes were “detrimental to our resolve and efforts to eliminate extremism and terrorism from Pakistan”.

Security sources said four militants were killed in the today’s attack.

Four Naxals arrested during police, BSF joint operation

Four Naxalites were arrested during a search operation in Maoist-hit Kanker district, police said on Sunday.

The cadres were nabbed by a joint contingent of BSF (Border Security Force) and local police from a forest under Siksod police station limits of the district on Saturday, a senior police official said.

A combing operation was being conducted by the security forces since Friday night in the Chhindbhat forest area, which is around 200 kms away from Raipur.

PM meets Nawaz Sharif; raises terrorism issue

Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary celebrated in Pakistan

The 107th birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was celebrated in Pakistan’s Lahore city, where a cake was cut amid slogans like “freedom is our right”.

Nearly 300 people gathered at Shadman Chowk yesterday for the celebration. Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907.

“He gave his life for the cause of restoring power to the people… We need more people like him today,” Baba Najmi, a Punjabi poet said at Shadman Chowk, where Bhagat Singh was hanged in 1931.

Court dismisses Andhra police chief’s plea for extension

The Andhra Pradesh High Court Sunday dismissed a petition by state police chief V. Dinesh Reddy seeking orders to the state government to extend his term by one year.

A division bench, which heard the motion moved by the director general of police (DGP), directed him to relinquish his post. Reddy is attaining the age of superannuation on Monday.

Dinesh Reddy had challenged the decision of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) that declined to grant him interim relief to continue in the post till his plea seeking a term of one more year was disposed of by the Tribunal.

As the BJP was all geared up for Narendra Modi’s rally in the national capital this morning, a pre-emptive tirade against the Gujarat leader was launched with pamphlets, dubbing him as ‘Feku’, circulated through newspapers.

The pamphlets and hoardings, mocking Modi’s visit to city as ‘Aaya Aaya Feku Aaya’, compared development parameters of Gujarat and Delhi and put the latter way ahead. These posters did not mention name of any political party.

Cyberabad Police conduct Cordon and Searches in Malkagiri Zone

The Cyberabad Police on Sunday conducted massive Cordon and Search at various places in different areas of Malkajgiri zone.

The drive was conducted in Mallikarjun Nagar, Chilkanagar and Uppal and other areas. Around 250 houses were visited and the antecedents of inhabitants/tenants were checked and their particulars were collected and recorded for further enquiry. As a part of checking, organized vehicle checking was done at three places and 62 cases were booked. A fine of Rs 45,100 was also imposed for the violation of the rules under MV Act.

Saimaikhyandra meet targets Sonia’s foreign origin

The supporters of united Andhra Pradesh on Sunday targeted Congress president Sonia Gandhi by referring her as a foreigner.
