Jagan continues fast on seventh day

YSR Congress party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Saturday continued his indefinite fast even as he was shifted from one hospital to another in view of his deteriorating condition.

Jagan, as the MP from Kadapa is popularly known, was shifted late Friday night to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) for better treatment but he refused to end the fast, which entered seventh day Saturday to protest bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh without justice to all regions.

SP Legislators’s son-in-law shot at in Lucknow

The son-in-law of a Samajwadi Party legislator and close associate of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was shot at in the Uttar Pradesh capital Friday night, police said Saturday. The man was unhurt.

Sameer, the son-in-law of member of legislative council Buqqal Nawaab, was driving past a shopping mall in the posh Gomtinagar area, when unidentified assailants opened fire at his car.

While two bullets hit the car, Sameer escaped unhurt.

“The assailants were in a car and I could not recognise them,” he told police.

One killed, three injured in clash on board Chhattisgarh Express

One person was killed and three others were injured in a clash between passengers on board the Chhattisgarh Express near here on Friday.

Government Railway Police (GRP) said the clash followed an argument over seating arrangement between two groups of passengers travelling in the general compartment of the train on its way from Bilaspur to Amritsar.

Man killed in train attack

One passenger was killed and four were injured when three Sikh travellers, dressed in their blue traditional attire, attacked them with swords and kirpans (daggers) after not getting seats in a train, police said Saturday.

The incident took place between Agra and Mathura Friday. The three Sikhs had boarded the Chhattisgarh Express in Agra.

After the attack, the other passengers in the general coach somehow mustered courage, pulled the chain and overpowered the violent Sikhs.

Man dead in China quake

One person was killed while 17 tourists were trapped Saturday in a landslide triggered by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake in China, authorities said.

The earthquake jolted southwest China at 8.04 a.m., Xinhua cited the China Earthquake Networks Center as saying.

Three people were injured. The 17 tourists in three buses were trapped in a landslide that blocked a road in Yunnan province.

No final decision on Syria but ‘no boots on ground’: Obama

The United States is looking for a “limited narrow act” of military intervention in Syria that does not involve a “boots-on-the-ground approach”, but has not made a final decision yet, President Barack Obama said on Friday.

“We’re not considering any open ended commitment. We’re not considering any boots on the ground approach,” Obama told reporters in a brief interaction with the leaders of three Baltic countries.

Obama emphasised that he has “not made any decisions” about what actions the US will take.

5.9 magnitude quake jolts southwest China

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted southwest China at 8:04 AM Beijing time Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre.

The epicentre was monitored at the depth of about 10 kilometres in the area bordering the counties of Shangri-La, Deqen of Yunnan Province and Derong County of Sichuan Province, quoting China Earthquake Networks Centre, state run Xinhua news agency reported.

The quake was felt strongly in the county seat of Deqen, Liao Wencai, vice secretary of the Deqen County Committee of the Communist Party of China said.

UAE free from foul New Zealand milk products

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is free from contaminated New Zealand milk products, the ministry of environment and water has declared.

No any consignments of contaminated dairy products with the bacterium strain known “Clostridium Botulinum”, which causes food poisoning, have entered into the UAE from New Zealand.

This was announced by Eng Saif Mohammed Al-Shara, assistant under secretary of the Ministry for Agricultural and Livestock Affairs.

Mobs against cow slaughter attack vehicles, police

Mobs opposed to cow slaughter Friday went on the rampage in two places in Haryana torching 65 vehicles and attacking police after intercepting trucks carrying cattle and cow flesh.

Security forces rushed reinforcements after a large crowd took over a section of the Delhi-Jaipur highway and blocked traffic in the evening and went on a violence spree, police said.

“Lot of damage has been done by miscreants,” Haryana’s Additional Director General of Police K.K. Sharma told IANS, referring to the arson in Rewari district.

Lindsay Lohan to host ‘Saturday Night Live’?

Actress Lindsay Lohan has reportedly been approached to host the first episode of the new season of “Saturday Night Live”.

The 27-year-old actress has been offered more work ever since she completed her stint in the rehabilitation centre.

“‘Saturday Night Live’ has approached Lindsay to host the show again, and they were talking about the season opener,” radaronline.com quoted a source as saying.

Lohan is keen to think about the offer as she is a fan of the comedy show.

“She is definitely considering doing it. She loves the show and the people involved,” the source added.

Russia capable of saving nationals from Syria: Navy

The Russian naval forces stationed in the Mediterranean Sea are capable of evacuating its nationals from Syria if they receive such a order, the Navy said Friday.

“The group of Russian warships consisted of the vessels from several fleets is capable of implementing such a task rapidly if the order to conduct such an operation arrives,” reported Xinhua citing a Russian Navy source.

But no such order had been issued as of 5.00 p.m Friday, the source added.

UAE, Britain hold bilateral talks

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Britain have held talks over bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen them. Both sides also discussed the latest regional developments and matters of common interest.

The talks were held between UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Haidan and British Ambassador to the UAE, Dominic Jermey.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Development authority has a plan to develop unsanctioned layouts around a city which are spread over hundreds of acres of land. Mr. Venkat Ratnam, Director of Planning of HMDA told that this project has been named “Land Pooling” on which work will be done on war footing basis. He further informed that Development work would be undertaken on 200 acres of land at outer ring road as the first phase. A meeting was held on 24th August. Mr. Moazzam Hussain passed away

Nawab Mir Moazzam Hussain son of Nawab Mir Diyanath Hussain and Son-in-law of Prof. Agha Hyder Hussain passed away after a brief illness. He was 99 years old. He is survived by wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters. He joined Hyderabad Civil Service and served as Collector in various district till 1948. After the merger of Erstwhile Hyderabad State into Indian Union, he was appointed as C.M. of Central Princely State. He was also appointed as Senior Director of UNESCO (France).
