The United States (U.S.) has offered Iran a “willing partnership” following the inauguration of new President Hassan Rouhani.

The White House has said Iran now has a chance to allay fears over its nuclear programme and meet its international obligations after President Rouhani used his inaugural speech to promise a government of moderation, and called for international sanctions to be lifted.

Rouhani”s speech was described as conciliatory in tone, and as one reaching out to groups inside and outside Iran.

The British mother of US soldier Bradley Manning has called her son a ‘Superman,’ urging him not to give up hope.

Manning is facing up to 136 years in prison for disclosing hundreds of thousands of secret US documents.

In a rare interview, Susan Manning said he should know she considered him her ‘Superman’.

According to news24, she asked her son to not give up hopes, adding that he will be free one day, though she may not be able to see him again.

Susan, a 59-year-old from Wales, is divorced from her husband, Brian, and is suffering from unspecified health problems.

Imran Khan to sue hardline party chief for calling him Jewish agent

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said he would sue Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl), for calling him Jewish lobbyist.

Speaking in a news conference, Khan said that he would take Rahman to court for accusing him of being Jewish agent.

According to the Nation, he said that the party was preparing a notice to send it to Rehman, adding that they will be going to the court and ask him to prove his allegations.

Imran Khan points finger at army’s incompetence over DI Khan jail break

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said terrorists succeeded in breaking the Dera Ismail Khan jail, despite one division of the army was present in the city.

During a press conference, Imran said that Pakistan has to find a new way to fight terrorism, adding that there is an entire division of army in Dera Ismail Khan.

He said that it is beyond comprehension as to why law enforcement agencies didn’t counter the terrorists, the Daily Times reports.

Four-year-old Robert ‘Bobby’ Tufts has been re-elected as mayor of a tourist town in Minnesota for a second term.

Fox News reports that Tufts was re-elected mayor of Dorset during an annual ‘Taste of Dorset’ Festival.

Dorset has a population of 22 to 28, and no formal government.

The votes, at a cost of one dollar, are being used to raise money for the Dorset Festival.

Emma Tufts, Bobby’s mother, said her son wants to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley in Fargo of North Dakota and a new welcome sign for Dorset.

Tawakkol Karman was held at the Cairo airport on arrival and ordered to return to Yemen in the next flight.

Pakistan on red alert for possible terror attack: Officials

Islamabad is on red alert after officials received an intelligence intercept of a likely attack on a high-value target, two senior Pakistani officials have said.

According to CNN, they said that important military installations were under tight security.

A recently intercepted message among senior al Qaeda operatives raised alarm that led to the closing of 22 embassies and consulates on August 4 across the Middle East and North Africa.

SC rejects Abu Salem’s plea to quash proceedings against him

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed gangster Abu Salem”s plea to quash trials against him following the Portugal top court”s decision to terminate his extradition to India.

The apex court while passing its order said the verdict of Portugal’s constitutional court is not binding on us, and added that Salem’s extradition is still valid in the eyes of law.

Salem had filed the application after the Portugal Supreme Court upheld the order of a lower court in that country, terminating his extradition after it concluded that India had violated the deportation rules in Salem’s case.
