The State Police may provide Z-Plus category security to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao.

KCR’s security cover may be strengthened following alleged threat to his life. TRS leaders – Etela Rajender and T Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that some Seemandhra businessmen were conspiring to assassinate KCR. They said they gained information about a “Supari”, murder contract to mafia being given by some Seemandhra businessmen. They said they had passed on all the information they had to the IG of the Intelligence for further action.

Another dowry death
(Siasat News): A woman who was under tremendous pressure for more dowry and was being harassed, took the extreme step of ending her life by hanging.

This incident occurred in L B Nagar police station limits where Sujatha, 28, committed the suicide. She was married five years ago.

However, after few months of the marriage, her husband and other in-laws started harassing her for more dowry.

When she could not bear the stress, she took the extreme step. Police is busy investigating.

Air Chief to inaugurate ISAM conference in B’lore

The 53rd annual conference of Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine here will be inaugurated by Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne on August nine.

The function at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine will be attended by many senior officers of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, and also by 200 national and 10 international delegates, a Defence release said.

“The Conference will be a melting pot of research conducted at IAM as well as on the flightline at various Air Force bases across the country. A large foreign participation is also expected,” it said.

Uttar Pradesh Minor girl raped by youth in UP

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Vidarka area here, police said Tuesday.

The girl had gone out to attend to nature’s call yesterday when Bantu, 22, of the same village raped her and fled, Shikohabad police station in-charge B K Tewari said.

A case has been lodged and hunt is on to nab the youth, he said, adding that the girl has been sent for a medical examination.

Govt should ensure smooth functioning of Parliament

BJP Tuesday said it wants discussion in Parliament on the Food Security and Land Acquisition Bills and their passage but insisted that the government should first ensure smooth functioning of the House as such important legislation cannot be passed in the din.

Even as the government is on the back foot as anti-Telangana members from the Congress are disrupting Parliament, BJP put the onus of smooth functioning of the House on the government and said it is ready to cooperate on passage of key Bills.

Dastardly ambush: Modi on Indian soldiers’ killing

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called the killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops a “dastardly ambush” while Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the killings won’t “help efforts to normalise or even improve relations” with Islamabad.

Both were quick to take the micro-blogging Twitter route to condemn the violation of ceasefire on Monday night by Pakistan in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Telangana likely to rock Parliament for the second day

Heavy rains: 17 dead, Kochi airport to reopen today

Heavy rains in Kerala since Sunday afternoon have caused huge loss to property and claimed 17 lives.

The hilly district of Idukki was the worst affected, as landslides were reported in 16 places.

A number of flights were cancelled on Monday as operations at the Cochin International Airport at nearby Nedumbassery were suspended till Tuesday evening after water entered the parking bay and taxi way. The airport will reopen after 3.30 pm today.

Kiran Reddy still opposed to Telangana?

Almost a week after the Centre gave its nod to the creation of Telangana as a separate state and initiated the proceedings for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, its Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy is still opposed to the division of the southern state.

Reports, Tuesday, said that the Chief Minister Reddy has written a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi urging her to keep the state united.

Pakistan violates ceasefire again; 5 Indian soldiers killed

In a major ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops opened fire on the Indian post along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night.

Five Indian soldiers were killed in the attack.

Defence sources said the Pakistani soldiers intruded into the Indian territory past midnight and ambushed the Sarla post on the Indian side of the LoC.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also confirmed the attack on the microblogging website Twitter.

Thousand across Kashmir observe ‘Shab-e-Qadr’

Thousands of Muslims prayed in mosques across the Valley observing ‘Shab-e-Qadr’, the holiest night according to Muslim belief, seeking Allah’s blessings and pardon.

Many mosques had been tastefully decorated with electric illumination to welcome the devotees who started arriving with the evening prayers to observe ‘Shab-e-Qadr’ which falls on the 26th of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Indian firm in talks with German company for JV

Delhi based ADM Technologies, an industrial consulting and market research organisation, is in talks with German company BANSS to set up a slaughtering equipment joint venture in India, said a top company official.

“We have signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the German company BANSS a major in manufacturing equipments used in slaughter houses. We intend to sign an equal joint venture agreement before the end of this year and the proposed plant will be located in South India,” Deb Mukherji, managing director told IANS here.

Punjab Civil Service officers here have come out in support of suspended Uttar Pradesh IAS officer Durga Sakthi Nagpal saying it appears she was targeted for not bowing to political pressure.

At a meeting held here to discuss Nagpal’s suspension, members of the PCS (Executive Branch) said she had “exhibited extraordinary courage in taking on the sand mafia” in her district in UP.

Nagpal was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for having cleared the demolition of an illegally constructed wall at a mosque in Gautam Budh Nagar district.

Modi’s letter sparks war of words between Gujarat govt and Congress

A war of words has broken out between Gujarat Congress and the ruling BJP government over Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking 90 per cent central assistance for the Sardar Sarovar Project.

In the letter written to the Prime Minister on Saturday, Modi sought 90 per cent central assistance for irrigation projects for Drought Prone Area Programme (DPAP) and Desert Development Programme (DDP) under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP).

Kanimozhi takes oath as Rajya Sabha member

DMK Chief M Karunanidhi’s daughter M Kanimozhi today took oath as a member of Rajya Sabha on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

As the House met for the day, her name was called for taking oath or affirmation.

Kanimozhi, who was re-elected to the Upper House in June, took oath in Tamil after which she greeted Chairman Hamid Ansari.

Ansari with folded hands remarked, “Welcome back” as members thumped their desks to welcome her.

She greeted senior leaders in the House before taking her seat.

UN ready to aid Pakistan, Afghanistan after rains, floods

The UN said here Monday that it is ready to assist Pakistan and Afghanistan if required as monsoon rains and floods have reportedly killed at least 120 people in these two countries.

“The (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ( OCHA) and its humanitarian partners are reviewing the situation and stand ready to assist if required,” reported Xinhua citing UN spokesperson Martin Nesirky. “Further monsoons are forecast later in the month.”

UAE, Egypt hold talks

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt have held talks over their existing bilateral relations.

The meet was held here Monday between Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi received and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

During their meet, el-Beblawi said that Egypt’s real strength lies in its integration with the Arab region in order to exploit the financial surpluses of wealthy countries

Johannesburg apologises to Mandela for wrong billing notice

The city of Johannesburg Monday apologised to ailing former South African president Nelson Mandela and his family for mistakenly issuing a notice for about $660 in arrears to his house in the city.

“The city wants to convey an apology to the Mandela family for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident,” reported Xinhua citing the city authorities.

The apology was made following a pre-termination notice from the City of Johannesburg reportedly delivered to Mandela’s house in Houghton in Johannesburg.

Sikhs in America marked the first anniversary of the Oak Creek tragedy when a gunman attacked a gurdwara in Wisconsin killing six worshippers, with a day of community service and remembrance.

`It wasn’t Durga Shakti, but another official who razed wall’

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zevar and not suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who was SDM Sadar of Noida, razed the boundary wall of an under construction mosque, said a report from the local intelligence unit (LIU) that pushed the Uttar Pradesh government to the back foot Tuesday.

The report was submitted to the state government July 27, the day when hours later Durga Shakti Nagpal was given marching orders and was attached to the state revenue board.
