India, Bangladesh join hands to find graves of freedom fighters

India and Bangladesh are jointly making efforts to trace the graves of martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 with over 2,000 freedom fighters buried on this side of the border in Tripura, West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya.

Officials here said that four nodal officers from the Indian side were appointed at Agartala, Kolkata, Guwahati and Shillong who would help Bangladeshi officials and their representatives to find the graves.

Man held for raping daughter
(Siasat News): Pahadi Shareef police on Tuesday arrested a 45-year-old auto driver for allegedly raping his minor daughter.

On Monday morning, when his wife was out of the house, the auto driver forced himself on his nine-year-old daughter.

Later, during the day the victim informed her mother about the incident and a police complaint was lodged.

The culprit has been arrested and the girl is sent for medical checkup.

Gavaskar `real Little Master`, says cancer-battling Hanif Mohammad

Pakistan legend Hanif Mohammad has praised prolific former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, calling him the `real Little Master`.

According to a report, Hanif, known as the Little Master of cricket, magnanimously conferred the honour on the Indian icon, who called him to inquire about his health and wished him a speedy recovery from his battle with cancer.

Stating that he was `highly impressed` with Gavaskar`s gesture, Hanif said that in reality, Gavaskar is the Little Master number one, adding that he only comes next in the list after the former Indian opening batsman.

Fire closes Kenya’s international airport in Nairobi

Firefighters were struggling on Wednesday to contain a raging blaze that has forced the closure of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, witnesses and officials said.

The fire at east Africa’s busiest airport started at around 5 am (0200 GMT / 10:00 pm Tuesday EDT) in the immigration section of the departure lounge and spread to the international arrivals area, a Kenya Civil Aviation Authority official said on condition of anonymity.

“No planes are departing or arriving – only emergency landings will be allowed,” the official said.

Child marriages still prevalent in Himachal, admits govt

Himachal Pradesh has failed to root out the social problem of child marriage, with 15 reported from five panchayats alone in Sirmaur, one of state’s backward districts, from December 2007 to November 2011, the government has admitted.

In an affidavit dated June 18, 2013, in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the state government admitted that 15 child marriages were solemnized in the Khud Drabil and Jarag panchayats in Sangrah block and the Chandni, Kathwar and Kodga panchayats in Paonta Sahib block.

BARC develops 41 crop varieties under nuclear agriculture prog

Over 40 varieties of crops have been developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) under its nuclear agriculture program.

The BARC had developed 15 varieties of groundnut, eight of mung bean (greengram), five of urad bean (blackgram), four of tur (pigeonpea), three of mustard, two of soybean and one each of chavali (cowpea), sunflower, rice and jute.

US files charges in Benghazi attack: media

The US Justice Department has filed charges regarding the attack on a US mission in Libya that killed four Americans, including an ambassador.

The charges, which are under seal, would be the first from the investigation into the attack in Benghazi nearly one year ago.

The CNN, citing people briefed on the matter, said yesterday that the charges were against Ahmed Khattalah, the leader of a Libyan militant group suspected of being behind the attack.

TN man injured in Singapore car accident

A 25-year-old Indian man has been critically injured when the vehicle he was travelling in was hit by a speeding BMW car here.

Nagaraj Sathairaj, hailing from Tamil Nadu, was among the nine persons who sustained injuries when the BMW rammed into their pickup truck ferrying workers last Sunday, The Straits Times reported today.

Nagaraj’s condition is stated to be stable, the paper said, adding that he was admitted to the intensive care unit at a hospital here for the head injuries he suffered in the accident.

He had arrived in Singapore only 20 days back.

Salman Khan gets UK visa

After being denied the first time, actor Salman Khan has finally got the UK visa and he will be flying to London to shoot for upcoming film “Kick”.

“He will be flying to London,” sources close to the actor told PTI.

Salman would be leaving for London in a week’s time. The 47-year-old actor was denied the visa because some papers related to the poaching case against him did not reach on time to fulfill visa requirements, his father Salim had said.

Struggle will continue till Telangana is formed- Dr. K.Narayana

State secretary of CPI, Dr. K. Narayana clearly declared that CPI would continue its struggle till the formation of separate Telangana State. He mentioned that agitation is going on in Seema Andhra region against the declaration of separate Telangana State but CPI is firm on its stand favoring Telangana.
