Aamir Khan excited for ”Dhoom 3”

Bollywood star Aamir Khan is happy after watching the final cut of his upcoming action film Dhoom 3 and says he can’t wait for the audience to see it this Christmas.

The 48-year-old will play an antagonist for the first time in the third installment of the popular ‘Dhoom’ series along with actress Katrina Kaif.

While Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reprise their roles as police officer Jai Dixit and his sidekick Ali Khan respectively.

Make fixing a criminal offence, educate youngsters: Dravid

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid today called for making match-fixing and spot-fixing a criminal offence since only a strong law can serve as a huge deterrent to potential fixers.

Antony meets PM, briefs him on situation on LoC

Amid the raging controversy over his statement on the Poonch killings, Defence Minister A K Antony today briefed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir where five troops were killed in an ambush.

Antony met Singh against the backdrop of controversy over his statement that the soldiers were killed by “terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army uniform”.

DRDO developing chilli-spray for women’s self-defence

In view of increasing instances of physical attacks on women, the DRDO has developed a chilli-spray for protection using the world’s hottest chilli grown in Assam, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

“Yes, Defence Research laboratory in Tezpur has developed a chilli-spray called CAPSISPRAY. It is a non-lethal spray for personal protection and self-defence,” Defence Minister A K Antony said in reply to a written query.

“It contains Oleoresin Capsicum extracted from world’s hottest chilli Bhut Jolokia, largely cultivated in Assam and other parts of northeast,” he said.

US blacklists Pakistan-based terrorist leader Bahawal Khan

The United States has blacklisted the new leader of a Pakistan-based group that carried out terrorist attacks in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The State Department announced it has added Bahawal Khan”s name to its list of specially designated global terrorists. According to Dawn News, the move will freeze any assets Khan may have in US jurisdictions and bars Americans from transactions with him.

Pak investigation agency sends notices to Musharraf’s ‘collaborators’ in treason case

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued notices to former president retired General Pervez Musharraf’s collaborators in the imposition of emergency in 2007. The FIA has begun a major investigation into the high treason case against Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution. According to the Express Tribune, the agency has sent notices to former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, his principal secretary Khalid Saeed, former law secretary Justice (retd) Ajmal Mian and seven other top government functionaries.

Qaeda’s new WMD: liquid-dipped clothes that explode on drying

Al-Qaeda operatives may have developed a new kind of undetectable liquid bomb, US officials have said. The officials said the new technique consists of dipping clothes into a liquid that would make the textile explosive upon drying. According to the Huffington Post, the new technique was developed by Ibrahim al-Asiri, al-Qaeda”s bomb maker in Yemen. Asiri is believed to have designed the devices used by ‘Christmas Bomber’ Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on a flight to Detroit and during an attempt to assassinate Saudi Arabia”s deputy interior minister, the report added. 94 held for damaging statues in Seemandhra

Andhra Pradesh Police have arrested 94 people for damaging the statues of national leaders during the ongoing ‘Samaikya Andhra’ agitation in Rayalaseema and Andhra regions.

Police booked 39 cases in connection with the attack on statues and booked the accused under section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code. If convicted, a person may be jailed for up to three years.

Congress activists protest soldiers’ killing

About 170 members of the Youth Congress were detained here Wednesday while marching towards the Pakistan High Commission to protest the killings of five Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Around 200 members of the Youth Congress gathered near the Pakistan High Commission in Chanakyapuri in central Delhi around 1 p.m.

They climbed police barricades and raised anti-Pakistan slogans.

Police said water cannons were used to disperse the protestors and 175 of them were detained. They were later let off.

Mount pressure to stop turban removal: Badal

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Wednesday urged the central government to mount pressure on foreign countries so that turbans worn by Sikh travellers were not ordered removed for security checks at international airports.

Badal termed the turban as an integral part of the Sikh identity.

He said it was unfortunate that Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Manjit Singh GK was asked to remove his turban during frisking at the Rome international airport.

Court rejects Dharmana, Sabitha custody petitions

The CBI Special Court on Wednesday rejected the CBI memos seeking judicial custody of former ministers P Sabitha Indira Reddy and B Dharmana Prasada Rao in connection with the quid pro quo case.

It may be mentioned that on June 7, the CBI filed memos in the CBI Special Court seeking judicial custody of former ministers. While Sabitha has been named as accused in the Dalmia Cements case, Dharmana Prasada Rao is facing charges in the Vanpic case. The CBI raised apprehensions before the court that the duo might influence the investigation and witnesses if not sent to judicial remand.

Raw garlic can halve lung cancer risk: Study

Eating raw garlic twice a week can nearly halve the risk of developing lung cancer, even lowering the danger for smokers, a new study has claimed.

Chinese researchers found that those who consumed raw garlic as part of their diet were 44 per cent less likely to suffer the disease.

Even when they allowed for whether people smoked – the biggest single cause of lung cancer, the scientists found garlic still seemed to reduce the dangers by around 30 per cent, the `Telegraph` reported.

A team of researchers has discovered a brain molecule that is responsible for regulating human emotion and mood.

The research team at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute has found that an enzyme called Rines regulates MAO-A, a major brain protein controlling emotion and mood. The enzyme is a potentially promising drug target for treating diseases associated with emotions such as depression.

Monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) is an enzyme that breaks down serotonin, norephinephrine and dopamine, neurotransmitters well-known for their influence on emotion and mood.

Tumors develop resistance because a protein called AXL helps cancer cells to circumvent the effects of ErbB inhibitors, allowing them to grow unchecked, a new study has revealed.

Ex-Microsoft Indian employee charged for raping janitor in Washington office Home

An Indian ex-employee at software giant Microsoft’s corporate headquarters in Washington has been reportedly charged with raping a janitor at his office.

Vineet Kumar Srivastava, 36, a former programming manager at the company allegedly called the woman in his office, molested her, showed her pornographic images on his cellphone and then raped her, the New York Daily News reports.

According to authorities, Srivastava blocker the woman from leaving her office and raped her for several minutes.
