Parthasarathi, both belonging to Seema Andhra Region had to face peoples’ wrath when they went to meet the agitating employees at Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada. Women shouted slogans against them and demanded their resignations. They told them that they have taken a decision to divide the state and now they have come to support Seema Andhra. Arabic seminar in OU today

Telangana bill in Parliament next month – Shabbir

(Siasat News) Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MLC and former Minister met senior Congress leaders in New Delhi yesterday and appealed to them for accelerating the process of formation of Telangana. It is said that the leaders of Congress high command have assured him that Telangana bill would be presented in the Parliament next month. It is expected that in the first week of September a resolution would be passed in central cabinet in favour of Telangana.

Fruits cheaper than Onions

(Siasat News) Onion has gone away from the poor people due to heavy prices. It is being sold @ Rs. 45-50 per kg. For the same amount 2 kg of Apples are available. The prices of vegetables have also gone up in Rythu Bazaars whereas seasonal fruits have become cheaper. Apples, graphs etc., are available in abundance in fruit markets. It is regrettable that Govt. has not taken any steps to control the heavy prices of Onion.

Bus fares likely to be increased

(Siasat News) As a consequence of price rise in Diesel, A.P.S.R.T.C. is forced to enhance bus fares. This is the third time that APSRTC would be increasing bus fares. For the first time it had increased bus fares in the month of May. The second time it had to increase in July on account of anti-Telangana agitation in Seema Andhra region which result a huge losses to the corporation.

China warns US against meddling in Hong Kong politics

The United States refused to back down today in its support for democracy in Hong Kong after Beijing accused Washington’s envoy to the city of meddling in China’s internal affairs.

Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yasin Bhatkal, arrested from nepal” target=”_blank”>Indo-Nepal border, is a very “sharp man” and has immense zeal and commitment towards his purpose, investigators tracking him for years said.

According to a police official, at the age of around 19, Bhatkal alias Mohammed Ahmed Siddhibappa was an idler and used to frequent Anjuman Engineering College in Bhatkal town of north Karnataka.

Woman dies post childbirth, negligence charge against hospital

A young woman today died at the civil hospital here after giving birth to a baby girl there yesterday with the kin of the deceased alleging it was gross negligence on part of the staff which had led to the tragedy.

The death of Anju Devi (26) in the wee hours today saw her husband Amit Kumar, a resident of Shiv Colony, holding a protest here along with several others alleging that his wife had died owing to gross negligence by hospital staff.

They demanded registration of a criminal case against hospital staff over the incident.

House of Yasin’s wife in Delhi focus of attention

A small house in a narrow lane in Shaheen Bagh area here, the home of the wife of Yasin Bhatkal, was today the focus of attention following his arrest from the nepal” target=”_blank”>Indo-Nepal border.

The last time this happened was when Zahida’s father and Bhatkal’s father-in-law Mohammad Irshad Khan was arrested in 2011 by Delhi police in connection with the German Bakery blast and the M Chinnaswamy Stadium bombings.

Sonia attends debate on Land Bill but leaves before voting

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who was taken ill on Monday, was back in the Lok Sabha today to attend the debate on Land Acquisition Bill but did not participate in voting the legislation which was being pushed by the National Advisory Council headed by her.

Gandhi looked energetic when she walked into the House at around 3.55 PM amid thumping of desks by Congress members.

US recognises same sex marriage under tax laws

The US Department of Treasury has recognised gay marriage under the tax laws, giving equal tax benefits to legally married same-sex couples like their heterosexual counterparts.

The ruling by the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) applies regardless of whether the couple lives in a jurisdiction that recognises same-sex marriage or a jurisdiction that does not recognise same-sex marriage, the Treasury said yesterday.

“Today’s ruling provides certainty and clear, coherent tax filing guidance for all legally married same-sex couples nationwide.

France wins Saudi defence deal: report

France has won a billion euro defence contract with Saudi Arabia to overhaul four frigates and two refuelling ships, sources said today.

A source close to the matter confirmed a report on the La Tribune website saying negotiations that had dragged on for years were now over.

The upkeep deal involves French weapons and systems makers, Thales, DCNS and MBDA and would overhaul vessels that date back to the 1980s.

UP ATS to interrogate Bhatkal: Senior cop

Uttar Pradesh ATS will interrogate Yasin Bhatkal, co-founder of banned terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, in connection with the blast at Sheetlaghat in Varanasi in 2010, officials have said.

Sharing this today with reporters here, IG (Law and Order) RK Vishwakarma said that Bhatkal’s name had come up in connection with the blast case being probed by ATS.

Vishwakarma added that after the initial interrogation, ATS would apply for Bhatkal’s remand.

Two persons were killed and several others injured in the blast in Varanasi.

A month after Telangana nod; Seemandhra remains in turmoil

As the Congress leadership’s announcement to grant statehood to Telangana completes one month, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions remained in turmoil over the proposed division.

Protests continued unabated today in Seemandhra (Coastal Andhra plus Rayalaseema) against the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh.

United Andhra supporters organised protest rallies, fasts, bike rallies, community kitchens and special prayers at places of worship at several areas in the two regions.

Maternal mortality rate declining: Azad

Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said various interventions by the government has helped in the decline of maternal mortality rate in the country.

Chairing a meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament attached to his Ministry, the Minister said the government is implementing a number of strategies and making interventions for improved maternal health outcomes.

“Maternal mortality rate has declined from 301 per 100,000 live births in 2001-03 to 254 in 2004-05 and further declined to 212 in 2007-09.

50 VHP activists held for trying to perform banned parikrama

Faizabad district officials today arrested about 50 VHP activists in the Gosaiganj and Akbarpur police station areas of the neighbouring Ambedkarnagar district as they tried to perform the 84-Kosi parikrama.

The arrests today came on the fifth day since the banned yatra was scheduled have kicked off.

“We are alert and keeping a tight vigil on the movements of VHP activists… Till the last date for the parikrama, we are not going to lower our guard,” said Faizabad district magistrate, Vipin Kumar Dwivedi.

File charge sheet against Modi, others: Jafri’s lawyer

The lawyer of late Congress MP Ehsan Jafri’s wife Zakia today told a magistrate’s court here should reject the closure report of Special Investigation Team which gives a clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case.

Zakia Jafri, whose husband was killed during the riots, has opposed the Supreme Court-appointed SIT’s report and sought filing of charge sheet against Modi and others for their alleged complicity in the riots conspiracy.

Asaram employees fail to appear before police for questioning

None of the three staffers working for self-styled godman Asaram Bapu turned up for questioning today by Jodhpur police in the probe into the allegations of sexual assault of a minor girl against their employer.

“We had asked them to appear before the investigating officer today and waited for them the entire day.

“But none of the trio appeared for the interrogation despite of their assurances,” said a police official.

Police, however, said that more than the trio’s statements, they were waiting for Asaram to appear before them for questioning.

Obama offers new gun control actions

The Obama administration announced new steps today on gun control, curbing the import of military surplus weapons and proposing to close a loophole that lets felons and others circumvent background checks by registering guns to corporations.

The administration has failed to find support in Congress for its gun control proposals this year. The issue became a top one for President Barack Obama after a gunman killed 20 young children and six adults at a Connecticut school in December.

US man tells police he killed wife, she had cancer

A US man who says he killed his cancer-stricken wife at her request called police to confess minutes after the shooting and is charged with murder.

Ernest Chris Chumbley told a police dispatcher in Kentucky he shot his wife twice in the face yesterday night. Chumbley later told media outlets from jail that she wanted her pain to end.

Chumbley cries throughout the 16-minute call to police and says his wife had an appointment with her cancer doctor today morning. At one point, he asks the dispatcher if he can go see his wife’s body in the bedroom, but he is told not to move.

Andhra Pradesh CM warns Congress over Telangana decision

In an open act of defiance, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy indirectly warned his own Congress party’s leaders that the organisation would have to face the consequences of bifurcating the state.

The Chief Minister said whenever the government or party take wrong decisions, people send them home.

“There are many instances both in the states and at the centre, when governments and parties were sent home by people for not taking correct decisions,” he said while addressing ‘Telugu language day’ celebrations here on Thursday evening.

India’s first defence satellite GSAT-7 launched successfully

India’s first exclusive defence satellite GSAT-7 was successfully launched by European space consortium Arianespace’s Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou spaceport in French Guiana today, giving a major push to the country’s maritime security.

Indian Navy would be the user of the multi-band home-built communication spacecraft, expected to be operational by September end.

The Rs 185-crore GSAT-7, the country’s maiden dedicated spacecraft for Defence applications, was launched during a 50-minute launch window which started at 2 am, and it was telecast live by Doordarshan.

Police break Jaganmohan Reddy’s indefinite fast, shift him to hospital

Police tonight broke the five-day-old indefinite hunger strike of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, at the Chanchalguda jail here and got him shifted to a government hospital.

As his health deteriorated, Jagan was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital here at around 11.50 pm in a bullet-proof vehicle amidst heavy security from the jail.
