Anil Sharma won’t make ‘Gadar 2’

Director Anil Sharma says his 2001 hit movie “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” will make people remember him for a century and he will not make a sequel to the blockbuster on the silver screen only for earning money.

The film starred Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel in the lead.

“If today I remake ‘Gadar’ I can understand it will be very successful. But only for the sake of business I will not spoil my ‘Gadar’ because this film will be remembered even after 100 years for Sunny Deol and myself.

Petition asks SC to bar Zardari from leaving Pakistan

Pakistan’s Supreme Court today sought the federal government’s response to a petition asking it to bar President Asif Ali Zardari from leaving the country after he completes his term next month.

A two-judge bench issued the notice to the government in connection with the petition related to the US military operation that killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad in May 2011.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 3, just five days before Zardari completes his presidential tenure.

Jagan Continues fast in Hospital despite doctors advice

YSR Congress Party President and Kadapa M P, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, whose indefinite fast in Chanchalguda Jail was foiled by the police by arresting and admitting him in Osmania Hospital late last night, continued his ordeal for the sixth day on Friday, opposing the decision to bifurcate the State.

A team of eight doctors examined Jagan and found that though his overall condition was stable, the sugar level was coming down besides the keetone level rising. The doctors felt that if he refuses even IV fluids leave alone intake of any solid food, his health might deteriorate.

Anam asks activists to intensify Samaikhyandhra agitation

Congress MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy on Friday called the activists of Samaikhyandhra to intensify their agitation.

Talking to reporters in the Congress Legislature Party office here, Vivekananda Reddy said that the Centre would be forced to reverse its decision on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh if the ongoing agitation in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions gets intensified. He said it was only due to the ongoing agitation that the Centre has kept the process of Telangana formation on hold. Else, he said that the State’s bifurcation would have got the nod of Union Cabinet.

Shankar Rao demands CM’s resignation

Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Friday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy from the post for opposing the decision taken by the Congress High Command.

Speaking to media persons in the Congress Legislature Party office here, Shankar Rao said that by opposing the decision on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister has challenged the authority of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He said that Kiran Kumar Reddy should resign from his post and also tender an unconditional opology to the Congress High Command for raising the banner of revolt.

Low intensity blast in Kolkata’s Chandni Chowk market

A low-intensity blast was reported from Kolkata’s busy Chandni Chowk market on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, no one was hurt in the blast, which took place in front of a shopping mall.

City police officials and a bomb squad were also rushed to the blast site immediately after the blast was reported.

One live bomb was also recovered from the bomb blast site, which was defused and then taken for forensic examination.

However, it is still not clear as to who placed the bombs on the footpath in the busy market area.

Economy to grow at 5.5 percent; no 1991-like crisis: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said India is not heading back to a 1991-like crisis, when the country was forced to pledge its gold to pay import bills, and the economy would expand by 5.5 percent in the current fiscal.

“There is no reason to believe that we are going down the hill and that 1991 is on the horizon,” the prime minister said in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament.

Manmohan Singh pointed out that India has around $280 billion of foreign exchange reserve, which is sufficient to finance nearly seven months of imports.

Five killed in house collapse in Chhattisgarh

Five persons, including children, were killed when their house collapsed following heavy rains in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, police said on Friday.

Two women, Chandrika Bai (25) and Premin Bai (80), and three minors, Karan (3), Gulshan (2) and Pinki (15), were killed when their house came crashing down last night at Atarmara village of Chhura tehsil in the district after heavy rains lashed the region, a senior police official said.

Bhatkal handed over to NIA for 12 days

Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, arrested from the India-Nepal border, was Friday handed over by a court to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for 12 days.

NIA special judge I.S. Mehta also sent another Indian Mujahideen operative, Asadulla Akhtar alias Haddi, to a similar 12 days NIA custody.

Lovers found dead near Agra

The bodies of a 22-year-old man and his girl friend were found early Friday close to a rail track near here, police said.

The bodies were discovered near Bichpuri railway station, six kilometres from Agra.

Police officer Ashish Kumar said the young man worked for a tent house owner, whose daughter was reportedly in relationship with him.

Police are not ruling out anything: honour killing, suicide or plain accident.
